terrible noise
« on: August 05, 2014, 02:25:18 PM »
The top speed of my 2012 2t was around 36-37 but I dont have the balls to get it up that high anymore because as soon as I hit 32 mph, there is a nasty sound coming from the variator. It slmost sounds as if it is clunkng. Any ideas as to what this could be?

I'd be afraid of you being stuck at 0 MPH with that sound and damage to other components inside that case. Why haven't you opened the case it take 3 mins to do?

Something sounds loose and metallic in there. Could be the variator or clutch nut loosening. Starter pinion and works would be a guess also.

Do a little research on whats inside that box, there is a bit that can come lose. You'll find some youtube vids and pics.

Sorry to thread dig, I bought a 2012 Super 8 2T about 2 weeks ago and it has been modified by the previous owner, only thing I can see is that it has a Technigas exhaust and it makes the same kind of noise yours does, its only does it above 60kmh and when taking off from a stand still and only when its warmed up.

Did you ever find out what it was?

Ive opened the case and have had a look inside but nothing seems out of the ordinary or broken, is it possible the belt is hitting the kickstarter pinion?
