Congratulations on your purchase. As a fellow owner I'm going to predict you will love your ADV 150. In addition to the good looks and nimble driving, 90 mpg is a nice bonus in today's world!

Thanks for the update, alway good to hear when folks resolve an issue!   The tips you gave will certainly help all of us when that time comes...  awesome license plate holder I have one just like it .....lol

Yeah, we fancy! Maybe we should market those as "license plate holders" at a steep markup!

Side By Side / Finally Changed Parking Cable
« on: May 31, 2022, 04:20:09 PM »
Well, I finally (had some other projects going around the house) got around to replacing my broken parking brake cable this weekend. Pleased to report it was a fairly easy job. Really about 15 minutes for the actual cable replacement, plus a couple hours to jack up the vehicle, remove skid plates, crawl around under vehicle snipping cable ties and opening up cable clamps built into frame, removing old cable, snaking new cable into position, etc.

There was no need to remove the outer skid plates along the sides of the vehicle, which was good, as that would have also forced me to remove my rock slider bars to get to those. Just the plates under the center of the vehicle provided all the access I needed.

As for the install itself, here's a tip for anyone who ever has to do this job: hook up the REAR end of the cable (at brake) FIRST. I had the front of the cable (at dash lever) hooked up first and trying to get enough slack to slide the cable into position in the back was a real PITA, especially while lying on my back under the machine. Leave the front loose and you will have a much easier time attaching the back end. Then you can sit comfortable in the front seat and get the front end hooked up without much trouble.

Well, that's all there is to it. This is my third year owning the machine and so far that's the first real repair I've had to make, at a grand total of $50. Did have a non-starting issue last year, which turned out just to be a fouled spark plug. That was a $5 fix.

OK, so an update on my brake cable. A couple days ago (the last time I used the machine), it finally broke completely. So, not I REALLY need to replace it. FYI: In addition to the cable, there is an electronic sensor that knows whether the brake lever is in the "on" or "off" positions. So, with the cable broken and the lever out, I was getting the warning light and chime that I was driving with the parking brake engaged, even though there was no tension on the cable. Just had to flip the lever back into the closed position and the sensor went out.

I attached a couple photos so you could see exactly where the cable broke. It was right at the interface with the barrel connector that fits into the brake lever.

So, today I called my dealer (Bloomsburg Powersports in Bloomsburg, Pa.) and had him look up the part number. Silence on the line for a couple minutes while he searched. Then, he came back on and said, "We have one in stock. It's $44.75." Beautiful! He's holding the part for me and I'm going to get in there to pick it up soon, but maybe not until after Easter.

Anyway, great to know they've got one. I was afraid he would have to order and I'd be waiting months for it to come in...

Side By Side / Tracker 500S (UXV 450i) Service Manual
« on: April 05, 2022, 01:07:37 AM »
Stumbled across this online and wanted to share. This is a service manual for the Tracker Off Road 500S, which is a rebadged Kymco UXV 450i. A few cosmetic differences but 95+ percent of this should be applicable to our machines...

Yeah I know the part says 500/700 but the same part number is listed on the 450 parts diagram.

I'll call my dealer to confirm and also inquire on price of having them do the replacement. My suspicion is that said quote will be many times the cost of the part, prompting me to attempt the repair myself.

As you said, the manual parking brake is very necessary and in this case the cable is definitely mostly broken at the attachment point with the activation lever. It's only a matter of time before the remaining strands give way and the brake fails. So it's going to have to be replaced...

OK, looked up the parts diagram online. Pretty sure this is the part.

PARKING BRAKE CABLE- UXV 500/ UXV 700
BRAND: KYMCO
PRODUCT CODE: 43450-LEE8-E00

$32, which isn't bad at all.

Anyone have experience replacing one of these?

Side By Side / UXV 450i Parking Brake Cable
« on: April 04, 2022, 03:56:19 AM »
I was using my 2018 UXV 450i this weekend and noticed the end of the manual parking brake cable that attaches to the lever on the dash is frayed. The cable terminates at a barrel connector that interfaces with the black hand lever you use to engage/disengage the brake. Several strands of the cable have broken away from this barrel connector and only a few strands are still holding on.

Has anyone else experienced this and replaced the cable? It runs into a plastic sheath, and my guess is that it runs all the way to the single rear disc brake on the drive axle. However, I could be wrong as I haven't really gotten under the machine to investigate yet.

Curious if anyone happens to know the part number for that cable and how much of a PITA to remove the existing cable and replace.

As fellow owners know, this manual parking brake is very important since putting the machine into PARK on the shifter on any sort of incline makes it virtually impossible to get out of PARK whilst gravity is putting tension on the gears. So, many of us just never use park but instead rely on the manual lever to securely hold the machine in place while stopped on a grade.

Thanks in advance for your help. I'll try to add a photo showing the frayed cable tomorrow.

Fracking is done to obtain oil,... or natural gas?
Yeah - geez - if you can obtain it properly burning gas has got to be better than burning coal, I'd think?
The little I know of the people who have to go in those coal mines to make a living - it looks pretty tough.

Our major natural resources over here in Ohio seems to be pick-ups, Hondas and corn.

And deer! I have a friend who farms in Carroll County. I get out there a couple times every year to hunt. Love the landscape over there, and great deer hunting.

Are they still getting any oil out of the ground in Pennsylvania? (or Texas & Oklahoma I wonder)
Is all of our oil imported?
We indeed might see an increase in two wheel riding this spring - dealers could use a little good news.
Stig

There is still some crude oil pumped in PA, along with a fair amount of coal. However, even though PA still has MASSIVE unmined coal reserves, the economics of mining it no longer make sense on a large scale due to the fact that it's a "dirty" form of energy and most power plants have either moved away from it or are in the process of doing so. In my area (a coal-mining region) coal is still a very popular home heating fuel, and still quite affordable compared to home heating oil.

However, the really big source of energy nowadays from an economic and industrial standpoint is natural gas. A large portion of our state (not my area) sits on what is called the Marcellus Shale bed, which contains huge stores of natural gas. Fracking is a major thing here, though our current Democrat governor has not been as kind towards it as previous administrations. My sense, given current events and political winds, is that if a Republican gets elected this fall (current governor finishing his second term and cannot run again) we will see a renewed push on gas drilling in the state, which is good in terms of jobs, economic impact for rural communities and energy prices for America.

Here in Eastern Pennsylvania, prices rose from $3.99 to $4.39 per gallon since yesterday. Wonder how much higher it will go.

Yes, I am extremely happy to have my scooter as it gets 89 mpg, compared to my 2006 Cadillac Escalade SUV that gets 12-14 mpg. So, will be driving the scooter whenever possible this year. Thankfully spring is on the horizon.

On a related note, I wonder whether there will be an increased interest in two-wheeled riding this summer due to high fuel prices. Although scooters obviously are known as gas sippers, even motorcycles get great mileage compared to most of the trucks and SUVs we are driving around.

The stripe on the side looks like it came from Walmart's "cool mod's" isle.
