The VIN will also tell the year of manufacture at the 10th place. Mine has a G, meaning 2016.
Well, I'll be darned --- a real '16!
Good news....thanks!

Underneath the right cowl, my date of manufacture ACTUALLY says: July, 2015. I guess my VIN decoding trick didn't work! G typically refers to a year ending in 6, at the VIN's 10th spot. Maybe it just means it's a 2016 model year. But she was definitely born in China in July, 2015.

OK, thanks for clearing that up.
You are correct - G means 2016 model year...or something. ?
My "C" is correct for 2012 (manufactured April, 2012) ....of course sold to me as a "new 2013" by the salesman.
So, still wondering if they are still making a LIKE200i.....

Just got a chance to check mine, did not realize how hidden it was.  Manufactured December 2014...  The scoot does impress me though considering how long I have been a fan of Vespa's!

OK, thanks for clearing that up.

Hi NJrider, My husband Vic and I are also from Hackensack. We've been having a blast riding our Like 50s at the Jersey Shore (LBI) and now have brought them up north. However, the 50cc's can't climb some of the hills here so we're looking to upgrade to the Like 200i or something comparable. One option is the SYM Fiddle III 200i. The Fiddle is very nice looking and the seat is a little lower, but the Like has both front & back disc brakes, which I've been reading is a real plus. We're leaning towards the Like but we noticed there's no kick starter. Does anyone see that as a deal breaker? Also, we're having trouble finding a certified shop in our area for service. Lastly, does anyone know whether the Like will still be available after 2016? We've really enjoyed our Likes and have had no issues since purchase. I have a 2013 and Vic has a 2014. I'm have 850 miles on mine.

If you like a small bike with plenty of power, take a look at the Genuine Buddy 125. It even has a kick starter. I have found that there is much less vibration and more power than my Like 200's. The Buddy 125 has front disc and rear hydraulic brakes. I live in a very hilly area in northwestern NJ and it has no problem pulling my 200 pound fat ass up the hills. I bought both of mine off Craigslist for a fraction of their original price tag.

the Like has both front & back disc brakes
So does the SYM Fiddle III 200i . . which also has an ignition-key-operated seat latch.

Fuel injected scooter engines typically do not have a kick-start lever.

Thanks very much for the info. I love the look of them both. However, the Fiddle seat looks a little less cushy. It's hard to find any reviews on the Fiddle III. I'm sure we'll be very happy if we upgrade to the Like 200i.

Funny you mention the seats .....the seat of the LIKE200I was my only major complaint of this scooter! !
Several owners have the same complaint.
But if you're OK with the LIKE50 seat...you'll have no issue with the 200.
Same seat.
Tall riders have to scoot back to get knees clear of bars esp when turning. ....seat pan protrusions make that very painful.....I could only go 40 mins max.
I rebuilt seat and lived happily ever after!
Kymco...SYM....BUDDY.....all are very very good scooters. Sit them to see what fits you. Few places permit test rides.... sadly.

Stig, thanks for your reply. I've read all about "the hump". Vic and I are not real tall so we're not bothered by that or the headlight glare. We just wish we knew what Kymco is planning to do with the Like for 2017. Will it stay or will it go? We think it's the best looking model.

Hey Jersey! Welcome. :)

I have family in Piscataway (exit 10, LOL). Say hi when you pass by.

I love your scoot, nice color. Do the chrome bars get in your way at all? I'm thinking of adding the chrome kit but worry that my short legs will get hung up on the chrome bars when I plant my feet or mount/dismount.... thoughts?

Absolutely agree. Best looking.
After 3 years I still get a smile on when I walk up to my LIKE.

I've tried to drown it, leave it in the weeds, walk away from it,shake the snot out of it , burn it and freeze it.
Then I just rode it ........and am having a blast.

PS: There will be plenty of 'Left Over' LIKE200i's around, even if Kymco has stopped making them.
Plenty of spare parts, as well, in the warehouse in S.C.
I don't know - Kymco is releasing them with stripes now - and a new color, Matte Black. Hopefully they will be around for years yet.
Think I'll ask KymcoUSA & see what they might know.

DJPO, thanks for the welcome. We don't have the chrome bars on our bikes, but we definitely thought about getting them. We'll wait until we decide on our upgrade. Stig, I'm liking both the matte black and the white Like 200i. We're hoping our scooter shop will do a trade-in deal. My husband likes the black/blue flake color. In the meantime, I'll have to get a motorcycle license. I hope I can take the test on the 200i rather than on a motorcycle. Has anyone done this? I'm not interested in going on the highways. I just want to be able to climb hills in the 'burbs.

Yes, you can take it on any scooter over 50cc, but if it's less than 231 cc, you are limited to riding bikes 500cc and under.
