Talking about DIESEL auto motors here:
Yes there is some built-up soot or cumulated dust on this MAP sensors in my SAAB and VOLVO cars.
Pls see pic:
close to soot infarct on a VOLVO EGR  caused by sensor neglection after ca.50.000 kms.

This buildup causes a malfunction in mentioned sensor until it goes into "workshop-mode" with the known orange Check Engine Light on.

Cure: MAP sensor together with its housing out of the cars air intake and clean it delicately with Q-tips and rubbing alcohol. Be tender, sensor buds are very thin. Dry with moderate pressure air.

Yow! Nasty pictures!
Yes, diesel but where does carbon originate at the induction?

This soot is produced by that engines
 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve

which should lead fumes to a second combustion,  therefore kind of "cleaner" exhaust gases, longevity of particle filter extended.

But you buy all this with clogged valves, which are not cleaned anymore but changed from socalled mechanics, for a nice fee o'course. In case of my V6 VOLVO bill would be €1.600,- new valve + labour.
I did it in three hours because a lot of stuff has to be removed. € 0.00😀
