« on: May 26, 2021, 03:52:07 PM »
Finally got 75 mpg yesterday! This signals "summer gas" is finally in the gas station tanks after they FINALLY sold all the "winter gas" with the secret additives that cot mileage down to 68 to 71 mpg.

Looks like Kymco left out a step on the AK 550:

Found the People key WILL NOT open  the key slot cover on the Downtown and vice versa. Someone on this forum may have mentioned this during one of the key replacement discussions and I was too thick to understand.

I tried this both ways twice just to make sure. Not electric nor electronic but undoubtedly magnetic. This is one elegant, simple and clever feature!

General Discussion / Fuel crisis
« on: May 12, 2021, 12:40:55 PM »
The hoarding of gasoline has hit this area because of the ATTEMPTED hack of the computers controlling some east coast pipeline. Expect gas prices to skyrocket and if it lasts long enough, scooters will become as scarce as toilet paper was! Too bad Kymco USA is in such turmoil to miss this possible boom.

But, hey! We all got one or more scoots here! Who is it on here who flips scoots like houses? He gonna be the big cheese dealer overnight!

Have just been advised that Joe Wofford quit Kymco USA. I think he was the last of the original crew and was a good guy.

Downtown 300 / Intermittent no start
« on: April 23, 2021, 09:55:14 PM »
Actually, two times abnormal starts. Meaning did not start after second revolution which is normal. So when it spins through 3 and 4 revolutions, it is key off, back on try again and both instances it fired up normally.

So, today, we investigate. First checked the valves: ho-hum, no change. Button that back up. Then try back flush injector since no codes or CELP light. What!? No fuel pump noise on self-check?! Bingo! Code 33 with blinking CELP light. Ugh! Turned injector back around to see if it would spray IF the fuel pump would come on. Sure enough, the pump ran and got a fine spray for both self check and bumped starter.

All this means is the failed starts were caused either by another failed pump/injector relay or faulty connection. Will up date when I pull the nose off to check relays. Got a coffee can full of 12 volt auto relays! I must be the only one having relay problems....

General Discussion / Riding season
« on: March 24, 2021, 01:06:41 PM »
Had a local test ride this past Friday, I think, just to see if we could remember what it was like! Got the seat latch fixed, got extra lights working, got a precautionary charge on the battery and even modified the charger to have a better connection through the cigar lighter! The only thing not done was to see if machine and rider could do, you know, the thing!

Well, yeah! How nice it was! Short but a good reintroduction. Today may be a longer ride to the big city to the east about 35 miles. Temps in the low 70's, low wind, I think. Now if wife doesn't come up with some other reason to keep me off the scoot...

Downtown 300 / Unused, disabled front signal/clearance lights
« on: March 09, 2021, 05:33:14 PM »
This is an oldy , moldy topic! Have the nose off persuing another project (seat latch cables)  and got curious about these lights with the silvery bulbs. I have spouted more than once these are purposely burned out to get the silvery look but they are not! They are amber bulbs! Single contact, bayonet 1156 type auto lamps that have intact filaments. Both wires go to ground so there is no way for them to work.

WAY! I think I'll hook 'em up to low beams.... too much trouble to hook them to signals.

General Discussion / Scoot with trailer!
« on: January 22, 2021, 11:36:54 AM »
We head to the grocery store every two weeks to replenish. We expect gas prices to climb drastically very soon so will be dusting off wifes People GTi300 to pull the Harbor Freight trailer. That fiberglass box is big enough to hold everything! 70 miles per gallon is over twice what the car gets.
