Title: Great little pony!
Post by: Hairy Bob on June 09, 2012, 12:52:30 PM
G'day all, Hairy Bob here, sending a big hello from the Gold Coast, Australia ! Hope all you fellow Cruisers have been getting a few nice rides in here and there. Went this morning, but the weather turned to crap so headed home. But, I have had some really good cruises through the hinterland of the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales on the little pony, solo and two up and I've gotta say gang , I'm absolulutely stoked  with her. She does feel the hills a bit, especially two up, but hey, give her a break, she is a 250, not 750. Besides, when your out for a cruise, you're not in that much of a hurry are you ? Bought mine March this year, 2010 show room model with 39 klms her, so she'd been sitting around for a while. Noticed a tiny bit of miss here and there from when I bought her, so I told them about it at the 1000k service, and guess what, they couldn't get the carbys set up properly, so they ended up putting a brand new set on, under warranty ... pretty cool hey! She's purring like a kitten now. I reckon I'm getting about 23klms per litre, does that sound pretty right to you guys ? She'll do the 110klm speed limit that we have over here no problem, but I prefer to sit on about 90 - 100 on the highway, fast enough, but not flogging the girl. Any way groovers, thats my two bobs worth for now. Have really enjoyed reading some of you guys comments on the forum, look forward to seeing some new ones soon. Ride safe gang. Regards, Hairy Bob.

My fuel economy is actually a bit better than I first calculated. Seems to be a frakko over 24klms per litre! Happy days!!!

Dig it, Bob, you got it right about the sweet ride of the Venox, and you'll be good to go for a long while now that she's running right.

I have an '06 that I bought on ebay from a dude in Nebraska for $1100, and it came with the Kymco saddle bags and a windshield.

I tuned the carbs to run a little leaner since I'm at 5300 feet in elevation here in New Mexico, and I bought a 44 tooth rear sprocket to replace the stock 39 tooth. That should really give better torque in all gears, but right now top end is 70 miles an hour, which is fine, but the RPMs seem a little high.

The Harley dealer here in Albuquerque has free hot dogs and chips every Saturday, so I rode on over and parked with all the Hogs to see if anyone noticed anything unusual, but either they're all bored with motorcycles or didn't look close enough to suspect it was a 250.

I've recently bought a 2012 model about three weeks ago brand new.

I've already put 400km on my Venox, and can't wait to keep riding. Weather's been really bad here in Sydney too, only had a few nice days to ride around town.

I'm having problems sitting at idle trying to getting it from 2nd to 1st gear then neutral, this happens sometimes. Seems the bike stays on 2nd gear and no matter how hard or how many times I press down gear, I can't get it to lock into first gear.

But other than that, I'm happy with her.

1000km service due soon, hope the dealer mechanic's don't overcharge. After this first service, I'll be changing the oil, coolant, sparks and air filters myself to save $$ and get the mechanics to change brakes and brake fluid when needed.

Check out the gear shift linkage and see if it's set right for the size of your feet and riding position. You can move the lever up or down to make it more comfortable.

Also the clutch tension and position is adjustable, so examinethat as well.

if the speed is high it will be difficult to jump straight from second to 1st. but if you need it to go into 1st bleep the throttle then it will slide into 1st. just as same as on a car if you have lots of speed it will be hard to go into 1st.

Hey there Paperkrain, if you got your bike from new, best not to stuff around with it too much your self mate, you might void your warranty, your covered for two years. Make sure you tell them about anything you reckon needs fixing at your first service, and get a printed copy of the workshop report and keep for your records. It cost me $220 for my 1000k service, and man after that bullsh** with my carbys I'm happy to have paid that, the carbys alone where worth over $1000.00 !! Wouldn't I have spewed if I'de have had to fork that out of my own pocket. I'll be getting the proper services done, and on time, that's for sure ! After the warranty runs out I'll be doing all my own servicing though. I got a copy of the full workshop manual download for about $10. So me, personally, I wouldn't be doing my own oil changes until after the two years is up. I'de hate to see you not covered for something you should be.   Anyway, happy cruisin' & ride safe ... regards, Hairy Bob !

ahh thanks for the tip!  ;D definitely don't want to void the warranty. I guess $220 isn't that bad for the first service, apparently the manual says:
Engine Oil, Engine Oil Strainer and Gear Oil - Needs to be changed
Clutch Lever Free Play - needs Adjusting
Bolts and Nuts - tightening

Where did you pay and download your workshop manual by the way?
Is it the same manual as this :
Kymco Venox 250-250i EN (http://www.scribd.com/doc/18671166/Kymco-Venox-250250i-EN#)
^ this is a service manual someone uploaded on scribd.com

Hey there J.B. , got the service and parts manuals from myxmanuals.com. Make sure your getting the english version of the service manual !!!  I tried a download from some other mob, and it was in bloody Spanish. Oh well, if ever I go to Spain, I'll know how to ask for spark plugs etc I suppose ! ... Regards, Hairy Bob.

G'day CE, ... Mate, you scored well getting your bike for $1100.00. Holy hot camel crap, it would probably cost three or four hundred bucks to buy the saddlebags & windshield over here, without the bike ! Well done sport, you'de have to be pretty happy. Take a photo of her & post it on the forum or send it to my email, I'de like to have a look if that's cool with you. Keep us tuned on the sprocket conversion too if that's okay. Anyway, keep on cruisin' fella ... regards, Hairy Bob.

Hey gang, the fuel economy  is even better now the little pony's been run in, she's got about 1800klms on her now. Had a nice little cruise through the countryside yesterday, and for 295 klms it only took 10.5 ltrs of fuel, that's about 28klms per litre ! That was all solo riding ... I'm gettin about 24 - 25 klms per litre riding two up. I'm pretty happy with that ! Keep on cruisin' groovers. Regards, Hairy Bob.

Nice :) I booked my 1000km service next Monday, at the moment at 600km i'm still about 250km per tank. Still having that 'clicking/flapping' sound when I rev though  ;D but it doesn't seem to get louder - although when I squeeze the clutch in to neutral when I'm riding, the sound goes away. Still guessing until the mechanic takes a look see ^_^

Here's a picture of my ride btw :)

very nice. i too have that sound... but my mechanic says it nothing to worry about. it is honda behind that kymco badge. and honda gear box and clutch is a bit noisy. but as everyone know honda are tough and last for ages. good oil is all you need. honda type gear box gives you the feeling of control and lets you know if you are in gear.

Awesome, thanks for letting me know it's not just my bike  ;D

About the oil, I wonder if I'm allowed to change the oil myself without voiding the warranty (only to put a better oil than the standard one at the dealership). I'll ask them :) From what I've heard from other motorists, there's nothing wrong with doing our own oil change within our bike's warranty.

the oil they should put in is 5w50... hard to find from other company such as Repsol, castral or Mobil.
so if they are giving you 5w50 full synthetic stuff then its not too bad. changing your oil and oil filter is easy enough, just have to have the right tools, and the right oil filter. but 220 usd for that job is a ripoff. oil 2 liters and oil filter... wont go over 50 bucks.

I think that's what the dealership is using (Sydney, Australia). I've found a really nice bikeshop that sells my oil filter for $10 each, so I've ordered 2x for now :)

I've read the service manual regarding the oil change, doesn't seem difficult - similar to a car. If you need a free copy of the service manual it's here - Kymco Venox 250-250i EN (http://www.scribd.com/doc/18671166/Kymco-Venox-250250i-EN#) - Someone was nice enough to upload a PDF into scribd.com, although it's missing a the last couple of chapters.

on this high reving venox engine, change every 6000km or every season. some say the oil can go over 10000km... dont risk it. oil filter every other change of oil. apart from that there is nothing much, spark plugs i have spare ones on the bike ready to go anytime... but they should last a great deal of time, more then 6000km i would say, plus they are not that expensive. Air filter are good for 2 years, no mater if you dont ride it a lot. best to always have a spare one as well.
use always full synthetic motor bike oil! and change cooling fluid every 2 years max. some people i know do it every season.

I would change the coolant every year. Once the silicates in the coolant deteriorates, they solidify into a white-like substance that may affect your cooling system. Otherwise, use a coolant marked O.A.T. They last longer and contains no silicates.

I totally agree with you Max about the service cost, but over here they've got you by the short & currlies. If you don't get the work done by "an authorized Kymco dealer" you don't have a leg to stand on if you need to claim something under warranty. I don't know how it works over your way. As I stated earlier, I'll be doing my own servicing when the two years is up, that's for sure. How old is your bike ? Is it still in the warranty period ?

Triple check, and let me know. I'm just going off the fine print in the owners service & warranty manual that you should have got with your bike. What the hell IS the "Trade Practices Act of 1974" anyway ?

My is way over the service 2 years... i got a 2007 show room bike last year for half the price of a new bike. so nothing applies. done everything together with a good mechanic and learned all the stuff there is to learn on this bike. of course i pay tuition fee when he does the job the 1st time. now i do the cleaning and changing just when it takes special tools such as a vacume gauge which i dont have i go to him. but still i pop by the garage every other day to say hi and see what else there is in the shop and learn from it. i pay for the pizza and drinks and i get back a lot of knowledge. you should give it a try!

That's a good way to do it Max. I've found another Kymco dealer that's actually a bit closer to where I live. He's the owner/mechanic, and he seems to be a very genuine down to earth guy. He's also been in the game for 37 years in same place and has a very good reputation in the area, so that's got to be a good thing. I'll see if I can sit in on the services if I buy him a few beers or something. That way I still get the dealer stamp on the service book. Maybe that business with my carbys was a bit of karma coming back on that other mob for ripping into me for the 1000klm service. Like you, I did think $220 was a bit over the top for a glorified oil change, but like I said, they've got you by the you know whats if you need a warranty claim. Anyway, keep on cruisin' fella ! Regards, Hairy Bob.

Keep on cruisin' and ride safe everyone.

"I tuned the carbs to run a little leaner since I'm at 5300 feet in elevation here in New Mexico, and I bought a 44 tooth rear sprocket to replace the stock 39 tooth. That should really give better torque in all gears, but right now top end is 70 miles an hour, which is fine, but the RPMs seem a little high."

Try a 40-42 tooth. Any good machine shop can cad/cut one for 100.-150.00 I've had quite a few cut in the past.

"The Harley dealer here in Albuquerque has free hot dogs and chips every Saturday, so I rode on over and parked with all the Hogs to see if anyone noticed anything unusual, but either they're all bored with motorcycles or didn't look close enough to suspect it was a 250."

They were all pointing and laughing behind your back...~

Once I get my full licence in about 13 months, I'm going to most likely upgrade to a H.D NightRod ;D oh yeeeeeaahhh

On the other hand ...

Sydney's weather has been really bad :( and my service is tomorrow morning, I've only done 850km on my Venox.. Guess I'll be waking up a little early to make at least 950km on the Odometer

Here's a picture of Sydney's skies - 1700hrs looking East towards the City (can't see the city, but its behind the houses)

I can't afford a brand spanking new one lol I wish... there's a few '06 night rods going for about $10k .. selling my venox should get me at least $4k to $4.5k here in Aus, and definitely be able to save at least another 5-6k within 1.5 years.

G'day gang (that was especially for you Vivo  ;) )

Hairy Bob here, finally back on the air waves - damned computer shat itself. Anyway, hope everyone has been finding the time to get a few nice rides in here and there. My little pony's been going like a beauty ! She's got just over 3500 k's on her now and I tell you what, the little 250 certainly holdes her own. Just about all of those k's have been cruising out in the countryside, I don't do any commuting on her. In fact the wife and I had a really nice little ride this morning out through the Burringbar ranges just over the border, then back over to the coast. Perfect sunny day, stunning scenery, my girl sittin' right behind me, and the little pony galloping along very nicely ... what more could I possibly ask for ?
Had a nice BIG ride a couple of weeks ago. Headed west and did a big loop south, then back too the coast. When I got back home, that little pony had done a bit over 380 k's, no problem what so ever. So, as you can tell by my rave, I'me still very impressed with her, to be quite honest, I'm pretty friggin' amazed !!! She can hold her little head up proud amongst heaps bigger bikes as far as I'me concerned, that's for sure ! She seems to be well made, and handles nicely, solo or two up. Other than that carby problem I had early in the piece, which was all totally replaced under warranty, I'me very, very happy with her.
I've added a couple of creature comforts. I got a nice sissy bar from the states which the missus really appreciates when we're on a bit of run. I also scourced locally, a nice little windscreen, frameless, so you hardly see it, but the differece that piece of perspex makes when you're belting along at highway speed is incredible. It stops your torso from acting like a parachute. I've ordered some nice highway bars, also from the states, they should be here in a couple of weeks. Holy sh**, the cost of post from the U.S. is a killer though. Still, they will look pretty nice on the little pony, and she bloodywell deserves them I reckon !!
I've been averaging just over 25 klms per litre over the last four or five tanks of fuel, so I know I've got a maximum range of about 350 klms  My low fuel light comes on around the 260 - 270 mark, so that gives plenty of range to find fuel.
So yep, all in all, the little pony has been running like a dream. Hope things are the same for you guys
Ride safe everyone.
Regards, Hairy Bob

Geez, you look like crap , what the hell did you get up to last night ?

Anyway, we've gotta get the band back together amigo !

Yep, you heard me right, we've gotta get the friggin band back together ... I had

song here and there but I know Uncle Lou won't mind).

So ... take it away Vivo, a nice cruisy backbeat on those drums if you wouldn't mind my good man ...

Oh yeah ! beautiful, can you feel that ladies and gentlemen ?

Okay, so it goes something like this ...

" I took the little cruiser out for a ride, the engine felt good between my thighs, the air felt cool as we cruised through
the county side ...
I rode right out to Warwick out through Cunningham's Gap, one time I got lost and had to check the map. I love that little pony
so much ...... I could kiss her "

So, Waddayareckon Vivo ?

We could be on to something here old son ...

We're gonna be bloody rockstars !

Thanks

Since it has an oil filter you're good for service at 1000 km, mostly to check that everything is working right and no bolts have vibrated loose. Check the battery terminals, brake cables, clutch and gear shift adjuster, all the stuff like that.

G'day all,
Down here in Oz, Christmas comes in the middle of summer which can be damn hot.
So when Santa delivers the presents here, he's not taken around by reindeers because
they can't handle the heat. He hooks up six big white male kangaroos ... the white boomers !
Six white boomers, snow white boomers, racing Santa Clause through the blazing sun.
Six white boomers, snow white boomers ... on his Australian run.

Did ya like that ?

Have a happy and safe Christmas groovers,
Best wishes and positive vibes for the new year to each and all.

Hairy Bob.

Righto ... Who's the mongrel thats been upsetting the boss upstairs ? We've been copping friggin hellfire and brimstone over here! First the poor buggers down in the southern states were getting the sh** kicked out of them by massive bushfires, THEN we get a bloody great cyclone up in North Queensland which has slowly worked its way down the coast  smashing and flooding everything in its path. We copped a flogging down here on the Gold Coast over the weekend. So whoever it is, can ya knock it off cos the pony's getting stable fever and i've got cabin fever !
Anyway, hope everyone had plenty of beers and cheers over Chrissy and the new year.

Guess your right Vivo, no one or nowhere is exempt from mother natures fury. I just went outside and gave myself a good swift uppercut. After watching the news these last few nights, seeing what some of these other poor people have been through, bitching about a pissy bit of cabin fever doesn't even rate a friggin mention does it. I should just shut my guts and be thankful that all of my family and friends are okay and that my house is still standing and I still have a roof over my head hey. :-[

So after my reality check, and on a lighter note, once everything settles down, I will be reporting back about some nice little expeditions on the little pony.

In the mean time seeing as there's not been much happening on the motorcycling side on things, lets talk about crows ... that's right, crows, you know, those big ugly black birds. Well I suppose there not ugly to other crows of course. But I was just wondering if they're as foulmouthed in other countries as the ones we get here in Oz. I regularly get woken up at about 5 a.m by a couple of the mongrel things sitting in the tree right outside our bedroom window going " faaark ... faaark ". Now is it just me, or does that sound suspiciously like a certain word us humans use ... only on necessary occasions of course ?
sh** ... I told you I had a touch of cabin fever didn't I, !!!
Anyway, just thought I'de throw that curved ball out there.

Regards,
Hairy Bob.

Crows HB? 2 crows?....   You aint heard anything yet.... imaging a farm full of fighting cocks (roosters) in our country. ....  all crowing at 3 until sun rise in the morning....  I had an Australian friend once that I had as a guest at home... he was really pissed off when he heard the roosters crowed...

Holy crap Vivo, that looks very similar to the devastation they copped up north and mid Qld. I hope your all back on track now, and those bloodsucking insurance companies did the right thing by you guys. If they're anything like they are over here, they're happy to take your friggin money but not so keen to give it back!
Its gotta make you wonder though if all these extreme weather events has got anything to do with the way us dumbarse humans treat this planet hey. Chopping all the forests down and pumping sh** into the air, the rivers and the oceans all the time. The boss must be sitting up there shaking his head wishing he'd stopped with the monkeys !
Anyway, take care fella.

Hey guys

Haven't been on this forum for a while, had an accident last October - On the way back home, some douche in a parked car opened his door on me and wrote off my bike and put me in hospital for a few days. Still recovering from it. I miss  my Venox :(

Cops say it was my fault - I was filtering through to the red traffic lights, when suddenly the guy opened his door without checking.

Hope you guys are going well, ride safe and maybe I'll be able to ride again soon.. wife kinda won't let me ride lol but she'll ease up later.. I hope.

:o Holy hot camel sh** J.B. that's no no good at all mate. The main thing is your still here to tell the tail though ... bikes are replacable hey. I know what you mean about effwits in cars, some of the clowns must drive around with their heads jammed up their arses ... they just don't look ! It's the same up here on the Goldy, and sometimes even more interesting with some of those camakazee tourists driving around looking at all the sights instead of watching where they're bleeding well going. It's always been that way though, when your riding a motorcycle, you've got to be on your game, coz even if your in the right in a prang , it's gunna bloodywell hurt !! I guess that's why I don't use my bike for commuting around town [I'm lucky enough to get a company car in my job], she's mainly for cruizing out in the country side. You've still got to be switched on all the time though have no illusions, there's still dickheads in cars out there too.
I was wondering why we hadn't heard from you for a while, I thought you must have gone and bought that Harley you where talking about, not racked up in hospital you poor bugger. You've gotta get another bike J.B. just treat this little incident as a learning curve sport. I know hindsight is a good thing and I don't want to sound like a know it all, but just sit and wait in the traffic. Don't worry, I've been tempted to do the same thing myself but have always been worried about exactly that type of thing. Not that long ago up here, I'm sitting in the traffic on my way to work and this guy on a bike has come screaming up the inside shoulder, then a couple of seconds later there's this almighty friggin "BANG". This lady has turned into her driveway, totaly in the right and the clown on the bike has T-bone the car and got catapulted about 30 meters up the road. Didn't kill him, but he didn,t bounce very well I can tell you that ! The poor lady was absolutley freaked out as you could imagine, and it wasn't even her fault.

I'm still really happy with the little pony. She's got just on 6000ks on the clock now and gallops along just fine. Takes me where all the big bikes are going, so I couldn't ask any more of her. Actually I haven't been able to get out for a couple of weeks due to some pretty far out weather we've been having here, but it seems to be coming good today [saturday] so maybe early tomorrow morning if mother nature is in a nice mood. I guess it probably sounds like I'm a novice rider and this is my first bike but ... Hahh, not case grasshopper ! This IS my first road bike however. I was always into big bore trail bikes. One of my best adventures was back in the mid 80's. I had a Honda XL 600R. Got my mate to make up some surfboard racks for it and I rode that mother across Australia, from Perth, Western Aust. to Coffs Harbour N.S.W. on the east coast, about a 5000klm trip all up. Rode through some amazing country. Man I could get to surf breaks on that thing that guys in four wheel drives where battling to get to. Where some times they'd have to park and walk for a while, I could ride right down to just about where I wanted to be. It was pretty cool. Gotta admit I'm glad I invested in a bloody good kidney belt though, it wasn't quite as comfortable as the little cruizer I can tell you that !!

Anyway J.B. you just be a good boy old son, be extra nice to the wife and I'm sure you'll be back in the saddle in no time. Before you look at another Harley, take a bit of time to check the new Kwaka W800 ... very spunky looking bit of gear, but that's just my opinion, we've all got different tasts. I've just never liked Harleys, they're just all noise I reckon.
Geez ! I've been a bit long winded in this little rave hey. I hope I haven't bored you groovers too much, or upset the Hog lovers at all with my last little comment  ;D.
Take care gang.
Best regards,
Hairy Bob.

;D Thanks for the support, Bob
Yeah for sure, I'm happy that I can still walk after that. I'll be looking for a new bike once the wife settles down haha but in regards to the harley.. I don't think I'll get one. I've been doing a little research and found out they're really high maintenance and burns a hole in most people's wallets.

I've had a go on my friend's kawasaki ninja 300, and I think I'll be looking into a sports bike next... But haven't made up my mind, there's still a few cruisers I really like also, maybe even get another venox XD but I'll just have to wait and see once the time comes.

Glad you're enjoying your bike and it's still going hard, I was looking at a few photos of my old venox, I took pictures of the odometer at each 1000km up to 4000km. Miss cruising on my bike :( Ahh well. Like you said, I'll be on the road again one day and I'll definitely be riding even more defensively.

Ride safe and I'll check this forum once a month or so

  8) Well hello cats, I just got back from a nice little 400k blatt out west. [Hey Vivo ! did you get that man, sounds like a good line we could use in another song for the album ... wadda ya reckon ?  ] Anyway, after what seems like an eternity of absolutely sh** weather,  it finally came good ... and on a weekend too, how good is that !!
So, up with the birds this morning. Saddled up the pony, and made a run for it. As I said, headed  west out through the Great Dividing Range. And what a mountain range that it is groovers, I gotta tell ya. Especially coming back down, far out !!!
The little pony galloped along quite happily. Had to work the gears a fair bit up through the mountians, but hey, she does bloody alright for a 250 don't you worry about that! I reckon if Mr Kymco brought this bike out in a 500, don't change a thing about the looks or anything, just in a 500, they would have an absolute cracker. But in the mean time, I'm still really happy with the little pony, as I've said before, she's taking me where all the big bikes are going.
Anyway, hope you guys are getting out when you can.
Ride safe.
Regards, Hairy Bob.

:-\ Had to give the pony a bit of first aid today gang. She spat a chain slider when I was hooking through the Burringbar mountain range last ride. No big deal, but it scared the living sh** out of me when it went though. I felt this thud like I'de run over something and it had flicked up and hit under the bike. Pulled over to check her belly, and couldn't see anything wrong straight away. Started looking over her and noticed the chain had a bit too much play, then I noticed what looked like fine black rubber powder on the side plate and swing arm. That's when I realized half of the slider was totally missing, and the other half had been minced into the front sprocket. Like I said, no big deal. I just took it easy back home. It was only when you where backing off that you could hear the chain just lightly tapping the top of the swing arm. Anyway, ordered two chain sliders (one for a spare), and while I was at it I'de noticed earlier that the rubbers on each end of the gear change tie rod were pretty well perished, so ordered two of those aswell. So, after a bit of buggerizing around (reckon it took me longer to clean all the black rubber sh** out than it did to drop the swing arm etc and fit the slider), she's all Mickey Mouse again. Another silly little thing I came across a while ago, was the steel hex bolts they use where the mufflers clamp onto the exhaust pipes going really rusty and looking pretty crappy, so I changed those with high grade stainless ones. It's amazing what little things like that can do for the look of the bike.

Anyway trendsetters, hope you've been getting out on your two wheelers when you can. (Hey J.B. has the missus softend her stance on letting you get another bike yet ? If not, keep on greasing her up man  ;))
Ride safe everyone.
Regards, Hairy Bob.

:o Hey guys, here's one for the books. The other day, my wife said to me ( and this is no bullsh** fellas, these where her exact words ) " maybe you should get a bit bigger bike ... you know, some thing with a bit more grunt ". I was absolutely gobsmacked. So anyway, I got all excited as us lads do when it comes to our toys, and started looking around and drooling over a few different bikes. I checked out the Kwaka W 800 a while back, which I've always liked. Also a few different cruisers ... the Kawasaki Vulcan 900, Suzuki C50 (800cc), and the Yamaha V star 650 ( not so heavy as the first two cruisers. I'm only a fly weight, about 67kgs, and that's before a crap in the mornings, and the missus ain't real heavy either ). So, what a delemma I found myself in groovers. But do you know what ... after all that, I can't bring myself to get rid of the little pony. She's been such a good little bike hey. I just love her looks (I've got the silver one) and her road manners. She's cheap as chips to run, and bloody reliable. So I'm sticking with the little pony gang. I know some of you probably think I've got rocks in my head, but as uncle Clarke once famously said .. " frankly my dear, I don't give a damn ".
So, its High Hoooooooooo Silver and away into the wild blue yonder !
Ride safe my friends.

Just as a matter of interest, what sort of k's have you guys been getting out of your tyres ?  The little pony came shod with Maxiss Classics. They seem okay and handle fine, I've just never been a big fan of nylon tyres. But then again, I've only ever ridden the bigger bore trail bikes running rubber tyres. Would be interested to hear any opinions.

:-\ As far as my last post goes, maybe I might have to let you guys know hey!
Anyway, another top little ride today gang. Out through the Burringbar ranges again .. one of my favourite rides, beautiful countryside and exellent swooping hills and bends. You couldn't get much better motorcycle country. Kept on going out through them there hills to a little place called Nimbin to visit all the hippies ;D . After a nice little vego feed, and a peace, be cool ol time, headed back down to the coast to Byron Bay, then home ... I'm a spoilt little sh** aren't I  :).
Now I don't know if it was my imagination or not, but most of the hog riders out today seemed to be a miserable bunch of stuck up c###ts, with miserable looks on their faces. Maybe I've got it wrong, but I always thought going out for a ride was to be having a nice ol time and to put a smile on ya dial. I've just got to stop being so damn happy and content with what I've got, that's my bloody trouble ! Now I'm not saying  they're ALL like that, coz I know a few Harley riders that are really nice people, but 90% of them seem to think they're something special.  I passed heaps of different bikes coming the other way .. Dukes, Trumpys Beemers, all kinds of Jap bikes etc, and most give a wave or knod of the helmet, but, oh no, not the Harley riders. Maybe some of them have realized they could have bought a heaps better bike or something, I dunno, so stuff em I reckon !
There ARE three good reasons to buy a Harley though in my opinion, and they are:-
1: You don't mind sitting on the side of the road practicing the motorcycle mechanics course you recently did.
2: You don't mind sitting on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck coz you didn't do that motorcycle mechanics course.
Or
3: You were just being nice to your wife or girlfriend by buying her a very expensive vibrator with wheels and a Harley Davidson badge on each side.
Now if you did it for reason 3 guys, you'd better hope you have'nt put your self out of business in in other certain areas hey.
So to all you HAPPY bikers, keep on cruizing gang.
To all the miserable ones, I feel really sorry for yaz.
Regards,
Hairy Bob  8).

You bloody beauty !!! Here we are, just gone 8a.m. Saturday morning, clear blue sunny late autum morning and the air is crisp and cool. Just scoffed a bite to eat. The pony's saddled up and gassed up ready to go. I,ve just started her up, and she's warming up as I'm dropping  you groovers this quick line. I hope I'm not boring you all with my little raves, but I honestly wish you guys (and girls of course ) could come with me out through some of the countryside that I'm blessed with having right on my doorstep. I'm really diggin' yer cruise reports, Bob-o, especially the bash-up on the Harley tools.

As you can imagine, here in the wild, wild West, there's abunch of 'em, although they only come out on the weekends, if the sun is up, and it's warm and dry, which is most of the time.

But they all wave, even when I'm on a scooter, and they're an amiable lot if you meet a bunch in a parking lot. In fact, I can't wait to show off my mini-magnum V-Rod next time there's a ride to Madrid, which is a cool little artist and hippie town halfway between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, on the Turquoise Trail. It used to be a coal and silver mine in the 19th century, and the mountains hills and curves are a blast to cruise.

Yesterday as I'm crossing the Rio Grande on my silver Venox, we came to a stop and some dude with Harley stickers all over his truck rolls his window down and asks what kinda bike is that?

Yeah, it's a Kymco 250, and it gets 80 miles to the gallon, I lied. He grinned appreciatively, looking like he'd just seen the coolest thing ever. I proudly bashed off when the light turned green, so he could see my tailight.

Maybe we oughtta get Kymco t-shirts, belt buckles, hats, emblems, stickers, and all kinds of paraphenalia like the HD dudes, and even start a Kwang Yang Motorcycle Club.

Yeah, next time somebody asks, I'll tell 'em, "It's a Kwang Yang."

Hey ce, great to hear from you mate. I was wondering where you'd got to. You've been missing in action for a while. Glad to hear you've still got your "mini-magnum V-Rod" (I like that !), and you've been getting some good rides in. They're a top little machine hey. That Madrid sounds very nice, reckon it might be a bit like Nimbin near here, with the same type alternate sort of people ... very cool indeed ol chap.
I'm still running the stock sprockets and chain on the pony, and I'm consistently getting 26klms per litre. The lowest was a a little over 24 klm per litre, that was two up and a lot mountain range riding working the gears heaps, and the highest has been 29klm per litre, but that was all pretty flat country cruising out west. So according to my calculations, ( sh**, I'm giving myself a bloody headache here ! ) if 1 U.S. gallon = 3.785 ltrs, and 0.621 miles = 1 klm, my worst has been about 58 m.p.g, and best, 68 m.p.g but roughly averaging 62 m.p.g. So you only spun ol mate with all the Harley stickers a little bit of a yarn ... doesn't hurt to leave 'em guessing anyway does it.  ;)
Dig your idea of the new motorcycle club too mate, that's an absolute cracker !! Do you need a Seargent at Arms ? I'm available if you do.  ;D
Anyway ce, like I said, great to hear from you amigo.
Take care, and ride safe.

Nice sharing there folks! I'm not sure I'll like the "mini magnum v-rod" name..seems like a "trying hard to be a Harley" thing... Kwang Yang is more appropriate... How about a V-Nox  ;)  I wish I can have a V-nox but it's not available in this part of the world... The most common big ride here is the Honda CB400... lots of them here and lots of parts.... them bikes are cheap too...  This is our famous zig-zag roads and it would be nice for cruising... True enough Vivo ol mate. I guess what really got to me, was up untill now when I've been looking through the forum, in all the different sections, everyone seems more than willing to help everyone else in what ever way they can. Two blokes that spring to mind straight away, are You, and Max Oradea. You guys are always on the forum trying to help people out, and you deserve full credit for your efforts and goodwill. THEN, you get some bloody nunga coming along trying to pull some pissweak stunt like that ... Oh, don't start me off again for Christs' sake !!!
Anyway, hope everyone gets some time over the weekend to get a nice ride in. I know I'm going to.
Ride safe gang,

Hey there fellow cruisers. I hope you've all been able to get out and about a bit here and there, no matter what your choice of ride. I must admit, I've been a bit slack on the motorcycle riding side of things last weekend and yesterday. There's been quite a bit of nice surf around lately, so ol Hairy Bob's been out chasin' a few stray waves so to speak :D. But it's okay gang, before anyone gets any ideas about reporting me to the R.S.P.C.A. for being cruel and neglecting the little pony, she's all saddled and fueled up out the back as we speak. It's an absolute cracker of a day and I'll be taking her out for a damn good run as soon as I've finished this.
So, take care and ride safe.
Best regards as usual.

Just so you know I wasn't bullsh**ing you guys, I took the little pony for a nice little gallop south along the coast and back after my bit of old chat this morning ... 295 klms to be precise. I could feel she loved it, her little heart was beating smooth as silk, totally in her element. I honestly can't believe how well this little machine goes for her size. As most of us know, it's a just a thing thing, you know when you and your bike are totally in tune with each other, and man, we were !!!
I've got a bit of a confession to make too gang. I'de been checking another new bike out (again !!). It's a 650, obviously more power, but after a day like today, and the way I could feel my pony was putting her little heart into it, I just cannot bring myself to part with her. (It's okay Vivo, I've seen the light  ;)). If I did buy it, it would have to be a stable mate for the little pony, and I can't see the missus seeing the warm fuzzy side of that somehow ... but you never know your luck I suppose hey ?
Take care, and ride safe everyone.
Bestest, bestest regards, ( you can't half tell I've had a rippsnorter of a day hey !)

P.S. Oh, one other thing I just realized ... we spell tyres different to you guys. Just thought I'de throw that bit of useless information at ya !  :D

Hey Bob, quick question for you.
On your ride did it get cold like say around 18 degrees and did you feel heat loss on the engine.
because yesterday went to Debrecen in Hungary from Oradea, and in the day time which was 22 degree it was doing well pulling through gears and reaching legal limits like a champ, but on our way back it got a bit cold and very windy, and i felt the engine not pulling so smoothly, had a quick pit stop and i could hold on to the radiator tubes which made me put a news paper infront to block off the cold wind.
the power after that felt a littler better but still the sun is going down and it got around 15 degree with wind. stopped at the border control at the Romania border, was even stuck in a 4 min stop and go in line to get my passport checked. the pipes coming out of the radiator was still not hot to burn or near as hot i am in the city.
so what i think is this bike is equip with a radiator thats too efficient if you were on the road doing 90~100km on fifth gear.

HB: have you read my latest reply to your e-mail?   Anyway, another point HB is that those bikes with fairings are just hot! What I mean by hot is you can feel the heat... heat from the engine and heat because air is directed away from you... you can't just feel the wind there... But it really looks great.... Maybe you can buy that 650 but don't sell the V-Nox...   ;)

Hey there Max and Vivo. Okay, firstly, to answer your question Max ... It did get pretty cold on the way home on Sunday. How weird is this, we were probably getting roughly the same temperatures as you were. We're at the very end of autumn here and the wind chill definatly had a bite to it that's for sure, but it didn't seem to affect the performance at all, and I would have been cruising at around the 95-100 kph mark, even 110 on the last bit of the main highway near home. You start to get a bit buffeted around once you start to get up to that speed though. I've found around the 95 mark to be a comfortable cruizing speed. Maybe it was just the wind Max, because I have noticed being slowed up a bit some times when I've copped big wind gusts. Don't forget your sitting upright on a cruiser, and your body can act like a bloody parachute at times and slow you up a fair bit, and the Venox isn't a very heavy bike either.

Hey there Vivo. Your right mate, I guess having a fairing might be nice in winter, bit it would get friggin hot in summer hey. So no, I'm not getting another bike, I dig my little pony too much. And besides, paying registration for two bikes every year would be a bloody dumb idea ... the government would love me for it though I suppose.

Anyway lads,
Best regards to you both,
Hairy Bob.

Ok that's good to know. Any other modification like wind screen...
When I go up wind I do feel a great effort to keep it above 100km with two passengers.
Would have to drop to 4th and spool up, can go on and on with 5th just feeling engine having a hard time.
Title: Re: Great little pony!
Post by: Hairy Bob on May 21, 2013, 11:16:23 AM
No windscreen either Max. I did try a screen for a while, but I took it off ages ago, I did'nt really like it. It did keep a lot of wind off your torso area, but I found that it created a fair bit of helmet noise and buffeting. I do have to work the gears a bit up through the ranges, and sometimes have to drop back a gear on long drawn out inclines, especially riding two up. But in general, she'll sit on the 100k speed limit in top gear no worries. It's only certain certain stretches that are 110k, but you start to get thumped around by the wind at that speed anyway, so around the 95kph is just right I reckon. Like I've always said, we have to be realistic, she's a 250, not a 750, or even a 500 for that matter. So you just be nice to your little pony Max, otherwise we might have to report you to the R.S.P.C.A. for being cruel her  ;).

Regards,
The Bobster from down under  8).

Hey guys, I don't know if I'm on the right track or not, but I've got a theory. Looking back over some of the Venox posts about the ones that have been running like sh**, and having carburetor problems especially. It seems to be the ones that have been sitting around idle for a while. It started to make me think a little while back, when I was reading Max's post about the end of riding season, and the preparation he was doing to put his pony away for the winter. On my very first post, I mentioned that I bought mine from the Kymco dealer in March 2012. It was the showroom bike, a 2010 model with 39klms on her. So it must have had a couple of test rides and then, same thing, she's sat around for quite a while until I bought her. I noticed a bit of a miss here and there, and it would ocassionaly stall when coming to a stop. It hadn't become too serious, so I waited until it's first service and told the dealer about it then. As I mentioned back then, they couldn't seem to get the carbys set up properly and ended up ordering a brand new set from Kymco under warranty. Being dealers, it was okay for them, they just claim it all back. She's been running sweet as a nut since. I ride most weekends, and I'm lucky enough to be able to ride all year round, so she's not sitting around all winter. Any thoughts guys ?
Regards, Hairy Bob.

The carb on the venox is simple once you get the hang of it, but for workers who are not dedicated to this bike only unlike us have most of the time put things back... not fully correct, as i have seen.
it is a small carb and the trick is really spray and blow every hole you can find with carb cleaner and compressed air.
There are a few fine parts on it that you have to be careful, such as the plastic needle holders on the diaphragm side which can be offset easily, the throttle idle cut off valve is one as well that is hard to fit back correctly and very fragile (which in this case i do not recommend to take apart), carb coolent pipes which should be marked before diconnecting. and that airbox... if only they left one cm more room for it to come off, and oh my god have no idea what that throttle sensor on the carb does.
Jets and needles are specific for front and rear, which in a hurry to clean both jetting systems at once can lead to a total mix up and run like nothing was done after its been put back.
so drain those bowls before you store it for more then 3 months otherwise... its a lot of work for as easy as turning two screws to drain.
I do hope i will not have to ever strip the carbs again, and hope no one has to do it as well, because there can be so much that can go wrong.
P.s and those idle mixture parts, o-ring, washer and that spring... if you lose one you are screwed

Car, truck, motorcycle, dog.... every acquisition of any vehicle requires big responsibility in use and maintenance of the vehicle. You don't buy a motorcycle because you just want to ride, or get a dog just to guard your home... each individual is responsible to understand how the thing works and is required (by common sense) to maintain the vehicle in tip-top condition, do regular service maintenance and seasonal maintenance.... Yes, there are those who are not mechanically inclined but that's is not an excuse... one must learn... before a problem starts... because your forum friends are not always on-line...   ;)
Title: Re: Great little pony!
Post by: Hairy Bob on May 23, 2013, 10:39:01 AM
??? Wow up there boys. Slow down and read the post ... ya wombats  ;). What I was getting at, was could it be something as basic as fuel going off ( petrol does go off you know ), especially that bit of fuel that could have been left in the bowl. If it's sat there for over say three months ( winter in parts of the northern hemisphere for example ), even if you put fresh fuel in the tank, when you start her up again, that bit of stale fuel in the bowl is the first that's gonna get sucked into the carbys. Are you with me now lads.
And don't you worry Vivo, I had to take my dog to the vet a few weeks back for a service, so her motor's running smooth  :D ( friggin well want to be for 650 bucks !!! ).
Best regards as usual guys,
Hairy Bob.
Title: Re: Great little pony!
Post by: max oradea on May 23, 2013, 06:42:50 PM
i think most of the problems come from that old gunky fuel in the bowl. those slow jets are very small, can easily get blocked by a gunk and dam its 3 hours of work, or a big bill.
try to run a motor with one of the jets blocked... long term will damage the crank shaft.
Title: Re: Great little pony!
Post by: Vivo on May 24, 2013, 01:42:06 AM
Winter or no winter, seasonal maintenance should be practiced when your motorbike sits around idle for a while because when gasoline inside your carb dries, it leaves varnish in your carb and when varnish dries and dries hard, you have no choice but to open up your carb and clean. Like Max said, a big bill!

Motorbikes or scooters have small carburetors and small carburetors have small bowls, so gas dries up faster... before storage, you have to drain your bowl so no gasoline there to dry up...no gasoline means no gum and varnish...  but fill your tank with fuel to prevent rust formation and condensation inside the tank...

::) Fairbloody dinkum guys !! Now just go back a few posts, and reread the post about my theory. But I'm glad you've finally cottoned on to was I was getting at all a friggin long. Stale fuel lads, stale bloody fuel ... just keep your eye on the ball guys, okay !

So ... seeing as Kymco were building motors and supplying motorcycle parts etc to Honda for decades, I'd even go as far as to say the Honda is possibly a Kymco, and the Venox isn't the clone at all. It's the same bloody bike built by Kymco but with Honda trim, except I reckon Kymco did a better job of the clothes .. the fuel tank, seat, air box and crank case covers, guards etc all look heaps better on the Venox.

Another wild theory from the Hairy Bobster down under  ;)
Title: Re: Great little pony!

Hey Bob sorry for the misunderstanding, but what about stale fuel?
Title: Re: Great little pony!
Post by: Hairy Bob on May 24, 2013, 09:40:42 PM
The fuel that's gone "gunky", most probably the bit, that might have been sitting in the bowl for ages, like over winter or something. Have you ever seen old petrol that,s been sitting in your lawn mower fuel can too long for example ( unless you're lucky enough not to have to mow bloody lawns that is  :) ). It gets a cloudy sort of look to it. What do you guys call fuel that's gone off, we call it stale.
Anyway Max, is the weather starting to come good for you overthere seeing as your going into summer? Winter's only about a week away here. As I've mentioned, I'm lucky enough to be able to ride all year round here. It does get a bit cold some of the time, but what we consider cold, compared to winter in parts of the northern hemisphere wouldn't even rate a mention.
So ride safe amigo,
Best regards, Hairy Bob.

I don't think it's a wild theory HB, I think it's a big possibility. Honda Japan would rather have things sourced from other countries because it would be cheaper... this means more profits for the Company and it's the most sensible business decision for them...  ;)

Hey there Vivo. Yep, the badge on your bike or car doesn't mean a damn thing these days. Did you know that it's actually a Kymco motor in the B.M.W. Enduro 450 dirt bike, same goes for one of B.M.W's big scoots. Some of these so called pureists would be devestated if only they knew where there bike or car came from, or at the very least, a lot of the parts. D'ya reckon even Harley Davidson might be sneeking some of their parts in from some where else ? Naah, probably not, cos they'd be a hell of a lot more reliable if they were  ;D.

Hey there Kris. Really glad to hear that you've got your bike sorted out mate. It just seems like a case of poor maintinance by the guy that you bought it off, especially after seeing the condition of those plugs and air filter. Anyway, apart from the heartache, for about $1800, you've got yourself a nice bike that you know is fully serviced, so you've still done well I reckon. I got the sissy bar and the saddle bag standoffs from Tucmoto, and they're in the U.S. so that makes life easy for you hey. Far out gang ... I was looking at bigger bikes again today. I've been seriously considering the 650 - 900cc range for quite some time now.  So ... is there something wrong with me guys or what ... I've got the dough, I've got the okay from the missus, ( in fact it was her bloody idea in the first place, when she said about getting a bike with a bit more "oomph ") , so it's all systems go if I want to.  BUT, I just really dig my little pony groovers. Seriously, I've got her set up just nice now, and she's looking very classy.  I've got the sissybar, saddlebag stand offs, and highway bars on her, plus that nice rack bag the missus bought me for Chrissy, and let's not forget about her new tattoo hey. Her little heart beats smooth as silk, and she'll do the speed limit no worries. So, should I go and see a phsycologist type person over this issue or something ?

Well I like getting good gas mileage so wouldn't go much above 650cc's. Kawasaki just came
out with a 300 that looks good and Honda has some new 500's and the NX700 which is supposed

I know it's tough. I once had 6 bikes in my stable. I sold them all to get married then had to
have at least one. So I got a BMW F650GS. Then lost my job so went to a Yager 200i. But a
few have snuck into the garage (BMW K75 and 2 1960's Honda Cubs ((but they hardly count!))).

Once it gets in your blood you're hooked! I come by it honestly as my Grandma rode back in the
30's and our family has been on 2 wheels ever since!

Well ... I don't know if this was a message from the Boss upstairs or not, but cop this gang. I was supposed to take a certain new 650 for a test ride last Wednesday. It was all booked, and I'd even taken the day off work especially for it. But come Wednesday morning, those big black clouds rolled up, and it absolutely pissed down, and I mean pissed down all bloody day, no bullsh**. So I spent the day setting up the anchor points on the pony for the new saddlebags I'd just bought.  And you know what ... it all looks and works a bloody beauty. So if that ain't some sort of message, I don't know what is. So, just to be on the safe side, I'm keeping the little pony. I don't want to be causing no hellfire and brimstone now do I. Not that I really wanted to get rid of her anyway, she's a damn good little bike and does me just fine. The only way I would get another bike is if I got a bigger shed, and could keep both. ( You're a bloody genius Moto  ;) )
Anyway, it's shaping up in to a top day here, so I'm off for a nice little ride on the pony right now. Hope it's the same for you guys.
Ride safe,
Best regards,
The Bobster.  8)

Well I like getting good gas mileage so wouldn't go much above 650cc's. Kawasaki just came
out with a 300 that looks good and Honda has some new 500's and the NX700 which is supposed
to do well on fuel mileage. I say go for it! Someone has to keep the economy going (that used to
be me!).
what kawa 300 and honda 500? show show.

Had another exellent little ride this morning in fact, down the coast for a while, then loop back up through them thare hills. Bloody beautifull !!  As old uncle Lez'd say .. " you wouldn't be dead for bloody quids, would ya "
Hey, do you want a GOODTIME sticker for your scoot Vivo ?  Email me your postal address if you do mate, and I'll send you one.

true that Bob and everyone, the more i ride it the more its pulling you in. got the windscreen fitted, channels slightly more wind to the head but i wear a full helm so it does not bother too much, but the chest surface is feeling very nice not a lot of wind but still enough to cool me down.
Pulling through gears better as well at high speed. it was a good add on after all. will get photos today and post them for ya guys.

Look out groovers, the Bobster's back !  Been off the air for a while, off chasing waves again for the last month or so, and there's been some nice stuff amongst the last of the winter swells we've been getting over here, for those of you that are interested in that side of life as well. But don't worry, I haven't been neglecting the pony, she's been getting a good run just about every weekend, and she's running fine. I treated her to a new air filter last weekend seeing as that it still had the original one. It didn't look too bad, but I changed it anyway. I'm going to change the oil every 5000ks, that makes it easy to remember. She's got just on 9000ks on the clock now.
I've just been reading all of the posts since I was last on the forum, and there's been a bit of sh** going down I see. There seems to be a definite common theme though with bikes that sit round for a while and the carbies getting clogged up by stale fuel. So for those of you that have to shut your bikes down for winter and such, it's imperative that you follow Max's advise about proper preparation such as draining the fuel bowl and filling your tank up etc. Funnily enough, I've just been reading an article in a pretty well respected motorcycle magazine we get over here. It say ... there's little point in using 98 octane, if fact Shell has admitted that some carburetted bikes may have to be retuned for V Power. It can also clog up your carbies from some reports. Plain 91 is often plain rubbish, very dirty. They strongly recommend the 95 octane. And what ever you do, stay right away from that ethanol sh**, that stuff will f##k your carbies up for sure. Just thought I'de share that bit of info with you. Hopefully it may head off some future heartache.
Hey Kris, did you suss your temp light issue ? Hope your still happy with your screen, and welcome to the Goodtime Cruiser Club amigo, the tattoo looks good too.
Vivo, have things started to dry out a bit over your way mate. Don't worry, I had the yellow submarine on standby just in case amigo.
And Max, I see your in there boots and all as usual, trying to help out by sharing your knowledge with us all. Good on you sport, you're a bloody good bloke.
Anyway gang, take care, and ride safe.
Regards, the Hairy Bobster from down under.  8)

Well helloooooooooo fellow cruisers and scooterists, or whatever your choice of ride. Hope everyone had a very happy festive season. It's about 3.45 new years eve arvo here, the last of our Christmas visitors left a couple of hours ago, and yer old uncle Bob's just sitting out under the back verandah  having a cool one and enjoying a bit of serenity. Don't get me wrong, it's been a hoot. But I'm bloody wrecked gang I tell ya ... Hey Vivo, I even got to try a couple of those Feral Hop Hog beers, not too bad at all Amigo.  ;D  After tonight though, I don't think I want to see a beer or a bit of ham etc. for a while.
Any way, my apologies for being so slack on the forum over the last half of the year. It just seemed to be full on for some reason and I just didn't seem to get time.  So, that's my piss weak excuse, and I'm sticking to it.  :) It's been pretty quiet on the Venox post anyway, so hopefully everyone has got all their problems sorted .. hope so anyway. The pony's been cruising along very happily. She's just clicked over the 10,000 klm mark, so I did the oil and filter. I gave her a new air filter a couple of months ago. Actually, that will be the third oil change in 10,000 ks, so you can't say I'm not nice to her, can you.
Anyway, I'd just like to wish everyone a happy new year, and hope it's a good one for you all. Ride safe gang.
Best regards. Hairy Bob.  8)

Hey there guys. Vivo, Stig, Mike and Russ. Good to see the forum slowly firing up for the new year. Now, firstly, Stig. Would I lie to you man. That fish was THAT big ... honest !!!  Is that serious though Stig, has most of the petrol over your way got ethanol in it ? That sux !   Oh, and I reckon Mike's right, do your self a favour and get a Venox mate. They are a great little machine, you'de love it.  Russ, I haven't seen a centre stand over here at all. For servicing, I got a front wheel grab so the pony stands upright, and a universal rear frame lifter to lift the rear wheel to lube and tension the chain etc ... brilliant. Vivo ol mate, what else can I say Amigo, other than  ... look out gang,  THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN !!!.  Nice to hear it's starting to happen for your brother and his family. Keep me tuned with the finer details on the other line if you like. How are thing over there now Vivo? Is your country starting to recover from that typhoon ?

Anyway guys, great to hear from you. Take care and ride safe.

Since you're in Summer Down Under,  you can just laugh at our polar temps here in the States--it was -10 Fahrenheit with the wind chill factor here in Atlanta for several days.  So cold, that the 6-year-old battery in my pick up truck finally died.  This Sunday will be sunny and back up to 56!

Hey there Mike. Don't worry, I never laugh at other peoples situations mate, because karma can just as easily turn around and stick it up my freckle in some other way. That does sound a little on the cool side for motorcycle riding though I must admit. All you can do is hang in there and wait for a bit more civilized weather Amigo. You'll just have to think of some indoor activities in the mean time ... chasing the missus around the lounge room playing leap frog is always a good one  ;D.

... and just to be on the safe side, a decent 24mm socket and handle, also in the rack bag, for the rear wheel nut. Not that I need all those tools to fix the pony, it's just in case I have to pull over and help some guy whose Harley has vibrated its self to bits.  ;D

Got hit in 2003.
Had surgery on left thumb/wrist...can't clutch, so got my DT 300i.

Asshole Canadian hit me . I was in a small pickup...had I been in a car - I wouldn't be here. Would have gone under his wheels. Blew through a Yield sign ( of course we know EVERYONE reads and obeys traffic signs ) , then ran to Canada. Mounties ( love those guys ! ) sent him back .

Cops wouldn't charge with hit-and-run ( 'cause he crossedv International line ) - claimed they didn't think he did it on purpose . He claims he did not see me OR know he hit me ( witnesses say otherwise )

But-

I AM STILL HERE !
Want to meet the Driver in a dark alley with a baseball bat . I'll claim I was practicing my swing and didn't mean to hit him/did not see him ( dark alley, ya know ) and didn't know I hit him ( thought it was the ball ) .. .  ( insert Evil Grin here ) .

Just back from another nice little ride. The pony's got just over 12000 klms on her now, and running great. I use premium unleaded fuel ( 98 octane ) and I've been averaging 27 - 29 klms per litre, so I'm pretty happy with that. The back tyre is just about stuffed, so I'll be getting her a new set of shoes soon. I guess I should do the valve clearances soon too. While I'm at it I'll do a coolant flush and change.
Here's a couple of photos ...

Hey gang. Has anyone heard for Vivo at all recently ? Someone asked the same question a while back, but I can't find the thread. I've e-mailed him a couple of times, but I haven't had any reply and he hasn't been on the forum for ages. It's a bit of a worry not hearing anything at all from him. Maybe if we shout loud enough, he might hear us, so ...

Good to hear from you Vivo. We were starting to get a bit worried about you Amigo. So, with that big storm, I guess you didn't get my e-mails hey ? I wanted to know how your brother and his family were going down in Adelaide.

Now, about the pony. What a difference a decent set of tyres makes ... I never did like those Maxxis tyres that came as standard with the bike, but I didn't realise how crap they were until I got a set of these Dunlop d 404's put on her. The improvement in the ride and handling is unbelievable !! Here's the rear ...

Nice to see your bikes are going well, Vivo, Max and Hairy Bob  :)

After almost 2.5 years since I lost my Venox, I've finally saved up and bought a new bike. Took a while to recover and get the missus to approve of me riding again though  ;D Although I didn't buy another Venox. I went to the dark side and bought a Kawasaki Ninja lol :) Here is Miranda

I miss my Venox, perhaps one day I'll come back to one :)

I still have the service manuals for the Venox 250. So if you guys have any questions regarding DIY etc. I'm happy to post the relevant pages up. It's too big to post every page of the manual.

Well holy hot camel sh** trendsetters, another year has slipped by !!!  I hope everyone has managed to get some decent rides in here and there throughout the year.  Yes .. I still have the pony, and yes .. I'm still very, very happy with her. She's got just on 16000 klms on her now ( about 10000 miles ), and hasn't missed a beat since that early issue that I mentioned way, way back that got fixed under warranty at her 1000 klm service, and when she spat the chain slider that time. Other than that, no other  problems what so ever ... and yep ... you guessed it ...  she's still taking me where the bigger bikes are going !! All I've done, is put a decent set of tyres on her, done regular oil changes .. every six to eight months or so, changed the air filter once so far, done the valve clearances once, changed the coolant once, and run good petrol in her .. 98 octane .. No bloody ethanol !  We're pretty lucky here I guess as far as fuel goes .. you can get E10, which is 91 octane with 10% ethanol .. which I wouldn't even put in my lawn mower let alone anything else !! , standard unleaded - 91 octane , unleaded 95 octane , and unleaded 98 octane - which is what I've always given the pony to drink. I am totally convinced that most of the the carby issues that you guys in the U.S. especially , have experienced is because they force that ethanol laced crap on you. I read a very interesting article a while back in the July issue of  Motorcyclist magazine , the U.S. publication , about ethanol blended fuel .. well worth a read if you can get hold of a copy .. take special note of the word " hydrophilic " if you do happen to read it , and you'll get a gist of my theory. Apparently, even Ducati, when they released the Multistrada in the U.S. had heaps of dramas because they couldn't get it set up properly because of the ethanol based fuel !!  But I guess if that's what you have to deal with, there's not much you can do about it hey. Anyway groovers, that's my little rave for now .
Wishing you all a happy and safe Christmas, and all the very best for the coming year.
And remember ... If the road looks slippery, it most probably is !
Ride safe gang.
Best regards
Hairy Bob  8)

Hey there gang. Hope all's well out in motorcycle and scooter world for everyone and you're  getting some good rides in here and there .
Have any of you Venox riders happened to have changed the headlight bulb to a bit brighter one ? The one that's currently in mine is a 12V 35/35W , but I was just reading in the service manual specs that it's supposed to be a 12V 60/55W ... does anyone know if that's right or not ... it seems like one hell of a difference ?

Hello Robert,
Can't help with your tech question - but agree, that seems like a heck of a difference. Anything in there going to melt with that hotter bulb?
My question: When did Kymco stop making the Venox?
I saw a lightly used one at my local dealer here in SW Ohio when shopping my first scooter in 2013. Wasn't sure what to make of it - especially when I figured out that it was a 250 7 that those metal panels were to make the engine look bigger. ? What a crazy thing to do! - but it did go with the over-all "big bike" low rider look.

Ride safe, Sitg

if your bulb is a H8 or a H11, you can go for a LED bulb kit ,  same wattage,  35,  35,   or is it a high beam and low beam bulb, need the numbers from your bulb,

I've had her for about four years now and still really dig riding her. I  get plenty of comments on what a nice looking bike she is , and it blows people away when I tell them she's only a 250 !  I think I may have mentioned a while back that I got the go ahead from the Boss ( the missus  ;) ) to get a bigger bike if I wanted to,  but fair dinkum guys , she easily does the speed limit we have over here, and she's served me so well .. why would I ?. When I first bought her, I must admit that I didn't take it all to seriously because she was the first road bike that I'd ridden .. I'd always had trail bikes , but here I am nearly four years later, and as I just said , still really enjoying the ride .
And hey there de dee .. you know what ... I reckon I should just leave her stock and not stuff around with anything.  You know the old saying ... If it's going okay .. leave the bloody thing alone !  :)
Ride safe guys.
Best regards.

How many miles on your Kymco?

Reliable?

Hi Stig. How are you going Amigo ? Well, the pony's got nearly 17000 klms ( about 10500 miles ) on her now, and yes, she has been a very reliable bike. As I've said all along throughout the whole Great Little Pony thread - she takes me where all the bigger bikes are going ! I know some people must be sick of hearing me say that, but it damn well true !!  I always go on decent rides on her most weekends .. coastal runs and out through them thare hills and out in the countryside. Did you know that Kymco have been around since the early sixties and were in cahoots with Honda for a long time ? And apparently, they still make parts for other major brand motorcycles as well ! Look into their history , you may find it interesting. In fact The Honda VT250 Custom, which I think was released as the Honda 250 Magna over your way are the same bike as the Venox ! Check this out ... if these aren't the same bike ol mate, I'll eat my hat ..

... so what do you reckon Stig ?  They're the same bike hey .. just slightly different tanks , air filter cover cylinder cover fins and rear mudguards . So ... was Kymco building those for Honda ??  But you know what .. I reckon the venox is a better looking bike !   8)

Well I'll be darned....
Yes, I knew about the Honda connection....read recently on Kymco site that they have also been working with other ATV makers of late.
Thanks for the post and the pix. So, no other Kymco shares this engine - an ATV or?
Was reading about a Honda bike that shares half a Honda Fit engine.
Years ago, in Massachusetts - there was a Buick dealer that gave you a free Honda car when you purchased a Park Avenue.
Ride safe down there
Stig

???  Far out gang ... I'm in a TOTAL state of dilemma !!  As I've always maintained, I really love the pony. She looks spunky and she been such a trusty steed !  Now... here's my bloody dilemma ... the money is sitting in the bank ready to go and the missus keeps telling me " just  do it " !  So I've got the " All systems go " so to speak to go and buy a brand new toy . All I have to do is go to the Yamaha dealer and do the deal ! But as I just said .. I really dig the pony, and if I could, I would keep her as well, but I can't ride two bikes, and would be down right dumb to be paying two lots of rego and insurance etc. So what should a bloke do you reckon ?  Here's what I'm looking at buying .. a brand new one of these ...

I don't have anyone to tell me what to do so I have 6 bikes, a truck, and two Jeeps. I say do what you want but if you do buy the new bike at least maybe hang on to the pony until you get whether or not you like the Yamaha.

Well ... after a whole lot of soul searching and procrastination, I finally did it gang ... I've let the pony go and I bought a brand new 2016 Yamaha XVS650 V Star Classic. It really is a quality built motorcycle I do have to say, and the extra power is nice.   But I must admit, as much as I really like my new ride, I was a bit sad on the last ride on the pony to the Yamaha dealer, to be parting ways with her, to the point that I nearly turned around a couple of times and not go ahead with the deal at all, as silly as that may sound to some people. I truly do not have a bad word to say about the Venox. I was really impressed with how well the she went for a little 250 ... as I've always said throughout this whole " Great Little Pony " thread ..  she took me where all the bigger bike were going , no problem at all. She was a tuff and reliable little brumby over the four and bit years I rode her and she never let me down. I am very glad I had her for the time I did.
Ride safe gang.
Best regards

I'm with MJR. Ride what you like and don't judge others what they ride, well, except, maybe 2016 Yamaha XVS650 V Star Classic.  :P ::) ;D

Now now Troutbum ... that's not very nice. You can just go and stand in the naughty corner for a while for that little comment, and don't come out until you want to be nice to people   ;D ;D ;D ;)

Standing in the naughty corner is fun.  ;D

Kidding aside that's a nice looking cruiser. Will you make it into a bagger or leave it as is?

Hey there Troutbum ... you can come out from the naughty corner now  ;D ;D ;D.
I'm just going to put the backrest, saddlebag supports and engine bars on her .. similar to how the pony was. The saddle bag supports and engine bars have arrived already, I'm just waiting on the backrest to turn up now.

::) Fair dinkum guys !!!  I don't know weather you noticed or not by the photos of the pony throughout this thread, but yer uncle Hairy Bob likes to look after his toys ... and just to be a show off, I'd even go as far as to say that the pony looked as good, if not even better when I traded her than the day I bought her over four years ago !  So don't you guys go worrying yerselves too much about me having to keeping Black Beauty's spokes and shiny bits clean okay  ;) :) 8)

You're across the date line, yes? So (since Santa is based in New Jersey, of course) - does Santa come to you on the 24th or the 26th? Never could sort that one...

I have some very sad news gang. I just received the news that our dear friend Vivo ( for those of you that knew him on this forum ) has passed away. I'll miss the friendly banter we exchanged on this thread, and although we never got to meet face to face, I just know that he was a damn good bloke.
Ride on forever Vivo.
