People 150 / Need some advice on Big Bore'ing engine.
« on: May 08, 2012, 09:28:16 PM »
So the engine on my People 150 completely blew this past weekend.

The guy at the shop gave me all the options... replace camshaft and other parts... completely buy a new engine... all of them came to about the same price point: between $300-400

and THEN he said, "or...for that price, we could just throw in a GY6 with a big bore kit and bump it up to about 180cc."

What!?  30 more cc's for the same price?

I've heard about these kits, but don't know anything about them. But I won't lie... having an extra 30cc's for about the same price as getting a new OEM engine definitely catches my interest.

Do these big bore kits really boost performance? If so, are there any big risks of putting them on a bike designed for 150 displacement? I could use some insight!

Thanks.

People 150 / Regulator/Starter troubles... please help!
« on: March 14, 2012, 12:56:23 PM »
Hello all!

So I tried my not-so-crafty hand at some electrical work, and came up short. Pun intended. The general consensus over in the "how to" forum is that either the wrong bulb/fitting or faulty grounding are responsible for shorting my regulator/starter.

But for now, I just need to figure out a way to get the bike up and running again! Right now, the engine doesn't even turn - no sound, no nothing.

If my regulator/starter did indeed get shorted, what is the solution? Do I have to get a new one? Is there a fuse I need switch out somewhere?

I'm a bit desperate at this point and would be extremely grateful for any suggestions. Thank you!

Technical | How To / SOS! What did I do to my Kymco?

The engine on my Espresso (australian People) 150 won't start!

Here's the story.

I was replacing the lamps in my turn signals. The new bulbs were a different size, but I made sure they were still the appropriate amp rating. So I begin by taking both lamps out of their sockets, which involved taking the whole front grille panel off. After disconnecting both, I started with the left bulb. I tested it out to make sure the connection was good before I secured the entire socket back in. Success... the signal is going double fast because the right bulb is not hooked up yet.

Then for some reason I get the impulse to turn the right signal on without the bulb in, and that's when things started going downhill. There was a weird humming sound for a few seconds, and then nothing. When I went back to the left turn signal, it was no longer blinking - it just stayed on, like a running light. Weird, I thought. So I turned the bike off and went to work connecting the right lamp. When that was finished, I went to start up the bike and.... nothing. No sound, just like a dead battery. But the battery is, without a doubt, fully charged.

Does anybody have any idea what I did to my bike? Did I knock something lose taking it all apart? Did I blow a fuse? I couldn't even find any... not the kind that I know, at least.

If anybody has any suggestions or solutions,  I would be extremely appreciative!

People 150 / exhaust pipes?
« on: June 29, 2011, 02:14:03 PM »

My exhaust pipe broke last week, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to go after-market. So far though, all I can find online is an NHRC exhaust pipe. I thought there'd be a lot more to choose from.

Am I narrowing my search too much by just looking for pipes that fit the People 150? Can I pick an exhaust pipe that would fit any People model? What is the best place online to look for these parts?

Thanks for your help!
