Title: Brake lever safety switch
Post by: pipster326 on July 22, 2018, 12:09:39 AM
The DT300 is not starting when I pull in the left brake lever. Does anyone know the part number, for that part? Anyone else ever have to replace one? TIA

Yeah. The brake switch is dead. Ebay have the part cheap. Make sure you get the left side switch.

Easy fix.

Sorry forgot to tell you how to change it.

1) look under the left lever cluster, you should see that little black switch.

2) undo the Phillip screw and the switch will come out.

3) unplug the two blade connectors

4) bin that old switch

5) do the reverse to reinstall the new switch

If you need a quick fix, you can spray the switch with lots of contact cleaner then WD40. This may solve the issue for a while until you get the replacement part.

A non-working brakelight switch is a safety issue.

Another fix: you can use a thin knife blade, pop open the switch, burnish the contacts with 400 grit, spray them with contact cleaner, reassemble...then replace the brake bulb with an LED to reduce the current through the brake switches. Both my switches crapped out, it's a common problem on the DT. I must credit mjr (Mike the Master) with this fix.

Great info! Thank you and mjr.
