Xciting 500 / Re: Battery
« on: January 20, 2018, 08:52:41 AM »
The 400 is down about 2-4 horse power or so than the 500, but get's much better MPG. It is lighter etc, so I doubt there is any noticeable difference in take off speed, high way speeds difference and so on. I want to take a real close look at the 400, but the seat height is 32 inches? So it sets high like the Yamaha T Max 500/530. They are to tall for me, kills my back, and i'm tippy toed. Don't like that. :-*

Xciting 500 / Battery
« on: January 12, 2018, 01:06:45 PM »
Hey everyone. I just bought a new battery from battery's plus bulbs. It was about $127.00, but it has 220 cold cranking amps. My true gel was getting weak and not hardly turning over the engine on cold mornings any more. The gel was 180 C.C.Amps. This new battery is the strongest battery I have ever had in my 2007 X-500. Spins faster than ever before. I would think this battery would cure any and all cold start issues with the fuel injected bikes. The only battery more powerful than this one would be a lithium. But they are normally over $200.00 Good Luck. :-*

Vary your speed for the first 1000 miles. Don't ride above about 65 MPH, and don't tour at high way speeds for long distances at the same speed. Then change oil to mobile 1 15/50 and never look back.  :-*

You could change your muffler, put in a polini vario etc, but really all you would do in increase the noise! Not going to get much more speed out of a 38HP engine. :-*  Leave it stock and ride on forever with out constant break downs my friend. :-*

My original belt lasted over 30'000 miles. I put in a K&N style air filter and have never checked it again. I change my own oil and use mobile 1 15/50 synthetic oil only. I do this once a year in the spring time so that the oil is new just before it get's real hot here in arizona. Use only original parts when doing anything with the belt or the CVT may explode your belt in the middle of know where due to heat build up, very quickly that is. STAY STOCK! I have not done a valve adjustment for the last 60'000 miles or so. The bike is starting to start with more difficulty, so I know it is over due for an adjustment. These things are built like tanks.  :-*

Thats what I have been saying for years. Buy a high quality true gel, or even better a lithium battery from ebay. Most batteries today are chinese or mexico low powered crap with zero cranking amp's. The original battery was fine with the carbed scoots, but with the fuel pump on the 2009's and up taking more juice, the starting issue arrived. Also, get the switches from a European bike that lets you turn off the head light when starting. That's a huge load for the battery to handle when it's 35 degrees or so out side. :-*

I bought a shad kit years ago, and it came with the bolts, box, rack etc. It says to take out or loosen the luggage rack/passenger grab rail in the instructions? No need to do this. 10-20 minute job at best.  :-*

Go to ebay motors and type in (BOX), Xciting 500 batteries. You will find a few lithium battery sellers. I would go with the one that sells for around $208.00! That should do the trick. If bike won't start with the lithium the first try, turn the key on for about 1 minute or so, the battery will heat up, and the cranking amps will go up as well, as the battery heats up. Every time you crank the engine, the cranking amps go up on a lithium battery, not down like on a lead acid. Sounds strange, but this is how they work. Should fire right up. :-*

I stopped into a dealer yesterday, and setting on the floor was a new 2018 XTOWN 300i? Didn't know anything about this bike? It set's much like the X500, (larger than the Down Town). The seat is soft compared to the X500 & or the Down Town. This may be good or bad for long touring rides. It has a claimed 69MPG with the same 3.38 gallons of gas that the X500 has, giving it over a 200 mile range. Reviews state it will cruise at free-way speeds all day? I don't know? At $3,999.00 I may give this a look? The under seat storage will hold 2 full helmets etc. I was surprised at how much I liked this bike! The down town just did not fit me. Could not stretch out, seat has a forward slope that just kills me, and so on. :-*

Has anyone heard anything from the guy that put a federal formosa car tire on the rear wheel of his X500? How well did it work? Any handling issues? I never heard anything about it after his first post. Has any one else done so?  :-*

I change my oil filter and oil every spring. That way it is fresh right before the heat of the season come in/on. Arizona heat that is. I use mobile one synthetic 15/50. Over 70,000 miles and zero issues. This bike cost almost nothing to keep on the road. :-*

We can not get the 400i in the USA? From what I have read, it is a great bike, and the engine is much more advanced in technology? Needle bearings in rockers and such. I own a 2007 X500, but would probably buy the 400 if I could get one. About the same HP etc, and far better MPG from what I have read?  :-*

Stay away from malossi belts. They are made to be used with their variator only. It is only 1 mm wider when new, than when kymco says to replace the belt! It is not the same size as stock, and it is not as durable. Take it from my experience, it's not worth the savings. Period. :-*

I have city grips also, a great long lasting tire. I only tour, I have taken 2 cross country trips on it, (Arizona to Michigan and back). My longest day was 1,004 miles, (drove all night). I wish the gas tank was larger? But the bike can be ridden like a gold wing. I call it the O HOG, as in orange hog. Can't hurt the engine. Over 70'000 miles now.
