Might be a bit specific question but..  ???

I just installed the J.Costa Evo3 in my XC500, and I've had the Polini clutch before.

It's currently set up to engage around 3500 revs which seemed great with the stock CVT
and weights as it improved the smoothness and mid-range acceleration (let's say 40 to 65mph)
greatly compared to the springs being set at it's lowest point which made it engage around 2500 revs.

However, now it seems like the bike needs waaaay too many revs to get going at small throttle openings
(I'm not aiming for maximum acceleration, I almost never launch with full throttle) and to get going in
traffic I'm around 4500-5000 revs, and if I feather the throttle just a tiny bit, I'm at over 6000 revs very
quickly which really isn't needed for normal traffic.

Should I roll the clutch springs back a bit, will that lower the revs a bit?
What I don't fully understand is.. if I'm at certain revs at let's say 50mph, will the clutch setup affect the revs
at those speeds or not?

Anyways, the j.costa is a great piece of kit. :)

Xciting 500 / Malossi Kevlar belt longevity?
« on: March 27, 2018, 11:19:51 AM »
Anyone got some mileage/longevity info to share regarding the Malossi Kevlar belt longevity?

I've never used anything but original Kymco belts (owned 3 different Kymco scoots and work at a kymco shop so..), but I got this
one as a spare from the previous owner so might as well use it. I've got around 4000 miles on it now.

Anyone made one snap?

Setup: Stock CVT, Polini clutch.

Xciting 500 / Polini clutch, anyone?
« on: April 12, 2017, 07:06:17 PM »
Everyone is talking only about performance gains, I was wondering more in line with what the thing ACTUALLY does
when installed. I already own it, never tried it though (got it as a spare part with my scooter). I can see the revs at
which it engages can be set somewhere from 4800 and up, but 4800 or so being the lowest.

Does that mean that when the scooter is decelerating and the revs drop below 4800 revs (which is more or less 50mphish)
that the clutch will engage and the scooter would coast at idle revs or am I missing something?

Also, does that mean that the scooter wouldn't accelerate AT ALL from a dead stop at revs under 4800?
If so, yeah, I'm gonna pass.

The stock clutch starts doing it's thing around 2500 revs.

Thanks!

Downtown 300 / Handling transformations (new tires)
« on: August 17, 2012, 08:27:51 AM »
I'm a bit busy but I figured I'd just drop a quick one (post, you sickos!).

I've replaced my Kenda stock tires after about 11.000km on the clock, the
rear was showing some wear (somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 worn in the
middle), the front was wearing evenly.

I used them to the edges and had no issues up until about 7000-8000km on
the odo when the front began to slip, so I continued aired down a bit. That
helped.

I didn't want to risk it any longer so I figured I'd get what I thought would
be the best tire out there at the moment, the Michelin Power Pure 2CT
(dual compound).

Not only did I then realize how low the grip level on the Kenda was, but the
bike's handling was transformed. It feels like there's less frame flex, which
of course isn't possible, but the sensation of frame flexing was obviously
due to tires.

No squirming over painted white lines, and the ability to make a very agressive
stop even on slick city roads without relying on ABS is nice to have.

The grip levels are comparable to Dunlop Roadsmarts I had on my Kawasaki, maybe
even better on poor quality tarmac.

One of the reasons I went to Michelins is great experience I had going from stock
CST tires on my Agility 125 to Michelin City Grips - other then grip, the comfort
was vastly improved.

The same happened here.
More comfortable even at higher pressure!

I highly recommend the City Grips and Power Pure's for any bike that you own.

Downtown 300 / Malossi contra spring?
« on: August 09, 2012, 09:48:22 AM »
I need some help deciding which contra spring to use on my DT300 which now has the
Malossi Multivar and 23gr Dr Pulley sliders (great setup, could have lived with 24gr too).

However, the revs are sometimes all over the place, and you can find yourself cruising at
5500.. and sometimes over 6500 revs.

Will a softer spring fix this?
I'd like to get to the "top gear" as soon as possible, and still be able to make the bike
rev out like it does now when I nail it.

One thing is bothering me though.
I understand the differences between different colors of malossi springs, but how the hell
can I know how stiff the stock spring is?! It might be even softer then the white malossi,
or stiffer then yellow, so maybe even the yellow would work.

Any ideas?

I got the yellow with my CVT but I haven't tried it yet (was waiting to see how the sliders
worked in this setup).

Downtown 300 / CVT holder tool?
« on: July 17, 2012, 12:11:31 PM »
Since I've been into my CVT more times then I've changed oil, and I've got tools for that, I'm in need of
a CVT holder tool, but have no idea what will work with the DT's CVT (or the Malossi that's in it right now).

Can anyone do me a "Get this, stoopid." with a direct (ebay?) link?
 ;D

Downtown 300 / Malossi Multivar
« on: June 20, 2012, 01:32:46 PM »
Anyone here using the Malossi Multivar?
Did you use the supplied yellow spring or stock?
Any experiences (people who actually own a DT300 or People300 and have the multivar, please)?

Let's hear it!

Downtown 300 / 73MPG!
« on: June 18, 2012, 01:07:17 PM »
Manage to score a record in low fuel consumption yesterday - I got almost 73MPG on a 150 mile trip.

What's so great about it is that my GF was with me, we had the underseat and huge heavy 50l topcase filled with
spare clothes, rain gear, I brought my dSLR too etc. My big windscreen isn't helping things either (I actually lost some
of the top speed because of it) and at the 50-55mph average we were doing, the Dr Pulley sliders are making the engine
work at 5500 revs most of the time, while it would have been 4500-5000 on a stock setup.

Given all that stuff, I think that was an amazing fuel consumption figure, even if we were only doing 50-55mph on average.

Downtown 300 / Tire pressure?
« on: June 18, 2012, 11:04:22 AM »
Anyone think it's strange (and almost impossible to be correct) that the user manual for DT300 calls
for same tire pressures regardless of load (with/without passenger)?

Is there a logic behind that that I'm missing or?

Figured a photo session was in order after a few farkle bits!
Shad SH50 topcase & extra light + Biondi tall screen, and a nice blue sky just before a storm hit!  ;D

Downtown 300 / Where's the horn at?
« on: April 24, 2012, 03:29:26 PM »
Yeah, I can hear where it's beepin' from, but I was wondering where exactly it's
located, and how much work in removing plastics is needed (and which panels exactly)?

I've got a Stebel TM80 horn waiting for a while now..

Downtown 300 / Oil light on dash?
« on: April 09, 2012, 05:55:50 PM »
Since my first oil change, I've had the light on the dash come on on 3 or 4 occasions,
mostly when the bike was sitting for a while, and I was wondering if anyone else had
this happen (explained better in the next post).

I used Shell 15W50 synthetic oil, and the bike only took 1.1 liters (the dip stick
shows full if I screw it in for the oil check, and 3/4 full if I just push it in without
the screwin' part  ;)

Also, at the time when the light comes on, you can definitely hear something going
on below in the engine, like the valves are running dry.

Should I get rid of that oil or add 0.2l more which would be up to spec (1.3l at change,
1.5l at disassembly)?

Downtown 300 / TOP speed vs. TOP box? :)
« on: April 02, 2012, 08:40:44 PM »
Quick question guys, for any of you who put on a huge (40l+) topbox on that
fat rear end of our scoots.

How's your top speed with it?  :-\

I'm not the type who'll chase after that 1 or 2 mph at the top considering
I rarely go over 70mph, but I was a bit surprised that I couldn't get it over
81-82mph going one way on the highway, and I somehow managed 88mph
going the other way.

Trying to duck behind the windscreen did almost nothing to help and that's
when it hit me, it's probably the freakin' sail behind me, also called a 50l
SHAD topbox.

I'll try that same run tomorrow without it, but I was wondering if anyone
noticed a big difference too.

Not to mention that I got 14gr sliders in the scoot which probably don't help
matters by keeping the revs around 500 lower at those speeds compared to
stock.

Here's a lousy cell phone picture:

It's been raining (and snowing) since I got the bike, will probably need to wait until spring to get a
few proper pictures..  >:(

50MPG!
 :P

I guess wind and rain, low temps and a few WOT runs didn't help much!
