Hey guys!
I did some searching, but most of the forums are around 4-7 years old, and I want to know some “modern†opinions on tires for my Xciting 400i.
So let me hear them!

Replace the Maxxis with ANY recognized brand front and rear for vastly improved handling and ride. I have Michelin Power Pure SC on my DT300i. Supposed to be a dual compound tread with harder stuff in the center for better wear life.

Hey!.....Maxxis manufacture fabulous Vietnamese tires.
12.7 million Vietnamese riding elbow to elbow in Saigon on nylon tires in pounding rains is what makes that country so darned exciting!
Nylon Kendas like to get in there and duke it out as well during the monsoons. Good traing for riding on frozen lakes!
But hey - nothing wears like Nylon - and nothing holds the road like rubber.
Was checking the air in my Piaggio tires - and saw that word "NYLON" on the sidewall. So, on damp roads I always take the LIKE with its Michelins.

Maxxis blows, or almost did on me with sidewall cracks and tread seperation. Maxxis says your tires are 4 years old so sorry we make crap tires. I've put over 75,000 miles on various other brands without a single manufacturer defect sans Maxxis. Perhaps that's why Maxxis doesn't sell street bike tires here and I certainly will not buy another set for my Jeep or any Pro Comps made by them for the truck. I personally would pass on Pirelli tires as well because they wear too fast. Been happy with Bridgestone, Dunlop, Michelin so far.

The Kendas that came with my Like were horrific, however, and there's a special place in hell for Avon Vyper Strykes...

I was happy with them as they passed over 10K miles but that's when it split open in multiple places. What happened with the Avons?

It's ANY NYLON tire I'm leary of. They last a long time ....not sure many wet riders have outlived their Kendas!!

I was happy with them as they passed over 10K miles but that's when it split open in multiple places. What happened with the Avons?
I've found the Avon Vyper Stryke always wears quite unevenly and has quite poor wet weather performance resulting in a few epic brown-trouser slides.

Yes, the Avon Vyper was a huge disappointment in most departments. Lousy for the rear wheel!

Michelin City Grip all the way. P or S rated. P is rated at 94mph/150kmh, and S is rated 112mph/180kmh
Revzilla has decent prices, as does Bike Bandit. I'm sure there are other sellers out there, but those are my two go to places.
For the record, and for easy access, here are the pertinent specs for the tires:
X400i Tire Information
Front: 120/70-15
Cold Tire Pressure: Front: 2.00 kg/cm2 (28.4 psi)
Rear: 150/70-14
Cold Tire Pressure: Rear: 2.25 kg/cm2(32 psi)

Awesome you got that many miles. I put City Grips on mine and the rear has just melted away at about half the miles. I'm not sure of longevity but I'd be real happy with 15,000 miles.

I'm by no means an expert on tires, but I think the speed rating would have something to do with longevity. I do know that some automobile tires are rated to last longer than others, but I don't know the coding mechanism they use to explain how that works.
I'm sure a little investigation with your favorite search engine would turn up some information on how all of that works.

I usually kill a rear tyre in 6000-7000 miles :(
