Are the canopies open, for quick ejections, in case everything goes sideways during the landing?
I bet that is one  l o u d  puppy, hanging there like that.

Don't think that's the canopy Stig. I think it's the cover for a turbine intake (but I could be wrong)

Yeah, I watched some videos - that is open when landing and taking off, while the canopy is closed.
You can get 3 of them for a billion dollars.....while we hold bake sales in schools to buy text books. Pilot wears a $400,000 helmet.

   I remember landing Harrier Jump jets on the LPH Helo carrier USS Okinawa back in the day  - part of the forward MEU Marine Exp unit in south China seas. I remember the happy face someone painted on the belly... LOL

And I remember riding the Okie during Vietnam before the Harriers. Heard stories about those Harriers starting fires in compartments below the flight deck!
