Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / A quick pic
« on: February 26, 2017, 03:42:47 PM »
Not the best pic from me today - I think I was trying to get too many subjects in.

[I've attached the same picture but with a different filter on. I makes it a bit easier to see & added a Wiki link to Spynie Palace

....and it was chilly, which normally means good conditions for photos - even on a mobile phone. But the light was a bit funny. That's it...blame the funny light.

So in the foreground, we have the DT. In the distance, just up from the riders seat, you can just about see the Palace of Spynie (a 12th century ruin)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spynie_Palace

......and to the right of that, the snowy peak of Ben Rinnes, the tallest hill in the area (just short of 3000 feet)

(Not my picture)

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / A mild ride
« on: February 19, 2017, 01:32:52 PM »
Not as pleasant weather-wise as hoped for today. Warm enough at 12 degrees, but quite breezy. Still, it's very mild for February....long may it continue!

A shorter than planned jaunt into the countryside to Suenos Stone - a 9th Century carved Pictish standing Stone

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sueno's_Stone

It's made of sandstone and to stop the erosion, they encased it in a huge glass box. Last year though, a few wee ballbags decided to smash some of the glass panels, hence the construction barriers whilst it's under repair.

It's still fascinating though.

...and one for the road.

General Discussion / What do you wear..?
« on: February 19, 2017, 11:07:23 AM »
If I'm going on a longer than usual trip, I normally put on a bulky Cordura armoured jacket on, but for day to day stuff, I've got a normal leather jacket for the summer and a heavier double lined coat for the winter. Not biking gear, but so much more practical when you're off the bike.

On the legs, I used to wear armoured trousers that went with the jacket.....but they're bulky inflexible and when you try to walk around I look like I've got piles. So it's denim jeans for me now.

On the feet, I do have a pair of armoured 'proper' motorcycle boots, but these days I prefer to wear sturdy, but definitely non motorcycle boots. As long as they cover the ankle (Workmans boots are cheap and do the job - or hiking boots).

I wear standard issue motorcycle gloves.

So, apart from the gloves and helmet, nothing is what you would call modern biking gear - but at least when I get to my destination, I can chuck the lid and gloves under the seat and I don't feel to much of a knob mingling in ,say, a cafe wearing this brightly cloured monsterous, bulky clothing and boots with all its buckles and velcro.

Downtown 300 / Brrrrrr!
« on: November 18, 2016, 12:17:50 PM »
It's a lovely bright sunny day here today, but f-f-f-freezing. (or maybe a degree above it). The roads were clear and dry though so I had a quick blast up to town and back.

One thing though, it was a sod to push out of the shed - almost like I'd left the handbrake on. So whys that then? Drivebelt stiffening up with the cold? Transmission fluid thickened? Brakes maybe stuck on a bit with the cold?

It was fine when I got back however.
