Technical | How To / Upgrade CVT...

I am thinking about replacing all or most of the stock parts in the transmission for some performance ones.  I found this kit...Anyone have any advice or recomendations with going with a different brand or even a different direction...Will this make a significant difference?  Worth the price?

Technical | How To / Which springs are stiffer?
« on: June 21, 2010, 10:33:47 PM »
Is a 1500 spring stiffer than a 1000 spring?  The spring in the picture on the left is the 1000rpm one and the one on the right is the 1500 rpm.  The 1000 is about a 1/2 inch longer than the 1500.  I would think that this would cause more pressure on the clutch and make a more effective engagement?  I am confused???

Technical | How To / Dirty Variator
« on: June 07, 2010, 07:43:25 PM »
When I took apart my variator to replace the drive boss I noticed that the roller ramps were very dirty and grimy.  Is this okay?  Should I clean this out with a paper towel or is it lubrication for the rollers?

Technical | How To / Nut on Clutch
« on: June 02, 2010, 10:12:55 PM »
Hello all.  I am planning on taking apart my clutch using a torque wrench to replace the Torque Spring and the Fly Springs for some stiffer ones.  I am trying to figure out the size of the nut on the inner part of the clutch...(The Big Nut)...But...I checked at this site... http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/73/Kymco.aspx  (part 90202 on the site) and it says it is 28mm...however the service manual says that it is 39mm...Any ideas on this one?

Technical | How To / Gear Oil Change Problems
« on: June 02, 2010, 02:02:12 AM »
So I set out to change my gear oil today in my 2006 Vitality 4t.  I bought Amsoil Synthetic 80W-90 Gear Lube.  My scooter takes .12 liters of the stuff.  I measured and put in a plastic bottle with a pointed top at the end.  Upon putting in into the fill hole the oil would continously pour out of the fill hole making it impossible to know how much was in the chamber.  I did this process twice making sure to drain completley both times and got the same result.  I hope I am near the .12 mark.  Not sure though :-\  Any advice or help is appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

Technical | How To / Sliders/Clutch Springs/Fly Springs
« on: May 30, 2010, 04:24:56 AM »
So I am upgrading the variator in my Kymco Vitality 4t with some new Dr. Pulley Sliders.  I originally thought that I would go lighter than the 6.5 gram rollers that come stock, however...when I spoke to the gentleman on the phone about this he highly recomended that I stick with the 6.5 grams as I will most definetly lose top speed with anything lighter than that.  Based on what I have read I thought that this seemed reasonable and he eventually convinced that sticking with the 6.5 grams was the best choice.  I have since had my doubts...I also have a new 1500 torque spring and a set of fly springs coming to replace the stock ones in the clutch.

Does anyone think I made the wrong decision here with not going lighter?  My goal is top speed...

Any other advice with the springs and the clutch are also greatly appreciated...

Technical | How To / Big Bore Kit Install
« on: May 14, 2010, 06:14:15 PM »
I was on craigslist today and saw this post.

http://newhaven.craigslist.org/mcy/1739983636.html

I really don't have experience with these things and was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me if this looks like a legitimate deal.  I emailed to ask him about it and he said that brand is Rongfa.  Anyone heard of them?  $280.00 worth it?

Any other advice appreciated...Thanks.

Technical | How To / Restrictions on Kymco Vitality 50cc 4t
« on: May 08, 2010, 06:02:36 PM »
Let me start off by saying that I am new to this.  I have been reading forums and posts on how to take restrictions off a Kymco 50 cc 4 stroke scooters daily but have unsuccessfully found any specifics on my model scooter.  I spoke to a scooter mechanic on the phone that explained to me that their is a restriction on the CDI unit which can be removed and a washer or "spacer" in the variator.  Another mechanic said that I would have to completely replace the CDI with a No Rev Limiter unit and replace the boss in the variator with one that doesn't have a shoulder.  I found the CDI under the seat and attached a link to where you can view a few pictures of it.  Like I said I am new to this and would appreciate any help.  Thank you in advance.
