I gotta learn more about American cars

Called the Chevy dealer today to get an oil change appointment. The service tech then began with the questions.
The only answer I'm sure I got right was, "It's navy blue!" 😊

For those new here - I've owned VWs most of my life. Father-in-law gave me this super low mileage Chevy truck when I sold my last VW, and began life relying only on a scooter - commuting to work thru Ohio winters.

I once owned an Olds Culass Supreme for a few exciting months.
Popped a coolant hose. Went into NAPA. Wasn't even certain of the color this time, as it had been resprayed. (discovered this after finding all of the chrome bits in the trunk.)
No clue on the year, and I used my hands to show him what size the engine was.
Embarrassing.

Well there's your problem right there... you only have experience with GM products.  No wonder you're confused! Go get yourself a good American Ford F-150 😉

For months I was thinking it was a Ford truck.
My son said, "no Dad, it's a Chevy for Pete's sake! "
Next time I drove it, I looked looked down at the emblem on the steering wheel.  Humph!
Most days I can remember I've a Chevy out there in the driveway.
For over 25 yrs I drove a red, extended cab, 8' bed, Chevy for the county. Loved that truck...rode soft as a Buick.
Mine rides like a friggin chuckwagon. Must be the color?

Funny.  Drove American cars
All my life but just bought my first VW this year.  (2017 Golf, Love it, not sure if I can go back now). But Chevys trucks are pretty reliable.  Live in Minnesota, I do get my scoot out a couple times in the winter, but not brave enough to commute with it in the winter.  Fractured my Ankle on one of our rental scoots riding it to work on the first snow fall in November, and was like that’s it getting a car again

I was amused years ago by stateside "mechanics" refusing to work on "furrin' cars" because they "didn't know anything about them!" Like the cars were totally alien technology! Now there were some valid complaints about wrench sizes needed! SAE, Whitworth, Metric.....

If it's new enough just give the Chevy dealer the VIN and he can tell you the rest but it won't work at the Ford dealer.

Old British standard, I've heard of it & that you might run into it in some 1950's, maybe 60's on back British vehicles.

Seems accurate from the bit I know.
I have no plans of ever owning a vehicle that would need Whitworth tools, kinda cooled me on really old Brit cars back inna day.

Badly wanted one of those as my first car. But my Mom took my wife to the VW dealer while I was goofing in the Central Highlands of IICorps...and they bought "me" a Baywindow bus.
Probably made better sense, since we were going to start a family in Amherst, Mass. when I deros'd. Those tops aren't thick like a beetle's.
Really nice job !
