2009 Kymco People 150 Belt Replacement.

Hi , i have had this bike for about 6 years and it now has 32,000 Km's on it . I use it mostly around town at between 40-60 kmph . Occasionally i ride out of town and on a flat surface with a little tail wind it will just reach 100kmph but i usually do 90kmph . Yesterday i went on that same ride ( which i haven't done for a year ) and noticed it was about just under 10kmph slower which got me thinking about the belt . I have never changed the belt . The manual says just to inspect it at 11,000 km's but doesnt  say when it should actually be changed so i figured it's probably overdue.  The bike still rides great . So a couple of questions .

1. I can find a part number for the belt  (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/323032048614) this is apparently an original Kymco , but i cant find the belt size in case i wanted to try and source one locally. Anybody know the size ?

2. Would it be practical to change the rollers and how does one know what rollers to get . Are they a standard size but different weights ?

3. I was thinking of doing this myself as i like to do my own work where possible in order learn a bit more , but i dont have an impact wrench . Can the CVT nut be removed by hand ?

One might say "no risk no fun", but I am inclinend not to have risk and fun of a broken belt out somewhere. Yes, your beltchange is overdue.

Easy to do if you have a little bit of technical understanding (pls see pic).

ad 1. buy an original belt BANDO or MITSUBOSHI otherwise you buy twice.

ad 2. yes, check them for wear and flat spots, change gliders too, go again with original stuff or Dr.P's

Thanks Ruffus , i should have mentioned i am in Australia so my first challenge will be sourcing the parts , especially the rollers . Are rollers and sliders the same thing ?

Your parts should be pretty common for a Kymco dealer....in stock, on the shelf.
"KYMCO" OEM belts are considered by most of us as the only proper replacement belts - they FIT as they should - full stop!
and your stock Kymco roller weights have served you well - why not buy the same?

You might reference a shop like www.leesonsarcticcat.com to check for the part #'s. Then you could shop eBay for a belt in a Kymco bag with the same part #..

Can probably find a www.cyclepedia.com manual for you scoot on ebay as well.

rollers and sliders do the same job but they are shaped differently. Rollers are round and sliders are...round'ish? Kind of rounded, pie shaped?

Your scoot comes from the factory with rollers. Many upgrade to Dr Pulley sliders when it comes time for replacement. My S200 came with 14 gram rollers so I replaced with 13 gram sliders (many will go with slightly lower weight sliders for improved acceleration, in theory).

I don't know what weight/size rollers your People 150 comes with...but you should be able to order a replacement belt and rollers from a local Kymco dealer.

As Ruffus said, no need for an impact to remove the clutch and variator nuts as long as you have something to hold them in place while loosening the nuts. I have a home made holding tool but you can buy them online inexpensively.

Was talking about three different things:

rollers = fleeweights
sliders = fleeweights
gliders = asymetrical  plastic pieces in your CVT where outer CVT pulley is gliding horizontally

Rollers and sliders make your scoot faster or slower (humbly said).

Gliders garantee your scoots CVTs function.

 I have managed to find these rollers on ebay here in Oz  ( https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/295776096244 ) which match with the part numbers for this bike from the leeson's website.

So i have these 2 belts i found
  .
1. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/323032048614   which comes in at about $100 AUD  shipped from Taiwan and has the correct part number 23100-KEC4-900/9000

2. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004897290262.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.   Which comes in at about $25 AUD . 1/4 the price of the other one . However the part number is mostly the same 23100-KEC4-COE ( just that last bit COE i am not sure about although they give the correct part number in the description )

So i thought with the rollers and the Mitsuboshi belt i might be on the right track, what are your thoughts ,.....thanks again for you help.

I’d be wary of the AUD25 belt. We’ve seen no end of reports on here of belts which seem like a bargain, until they arrive! Caveat emptor.

Can work, but not neccessarely.
 Saw lately some fakes with beautiful made brands on it, broken.
Bite the bullet and stick with the first belt.
Even your prices over there make me cringe.

For rollers, yes take that one, even in case they wear out prematurely, no other demage would be done.
Like the old ones said: You get what you pay for.

If the Aliexpress belt is counterfeit, they did a superb job.  Looks pretty authentic in the video.  I'd try to call Mitsuboshi and ask about the different part numbers shown on the two belts.  Had a similar situation w a Bando belt, someone at Bando explained why there were slightly different numbers and that it didn't affect the fit.

Ruffus, if you're reading this, the torque numbers in the picture you posted show higher torque for the clutch nut.  I thought the variator nut needed more torque than the clutch nut?

Hi Carvets-
Belts are cheap, so there's not much downside in trying other brands.  I find that Gates & Bando belts are easy to locate and work as well as any other brand. The main job skill needed is the ability to measure the circumference of the belts.  Weights also are cheap and worth the time to experiment.  In general, the lighter the weights, the quicker your machine will accelerate.  Weights have no effect on top speed.  In most cases, Kawasaki ATVs use the same drive parts as Kymcos, so if you can't find a Kymco source, check your local Kawasaki dealer.

Good point.  My Kymco belts say "KYMCO" in green letters in one location, and "Bando" a little further along. However, I'm using a Gates belt lately because it's about 5kt faster. I can't explain why.
