Super 8 / Polini high Speed - Kymco Super 8 4 stroke
« on: April 26, 2017, 08:42:34 AM »
I`m about to install this in my scooter but noticed that the drive boss i 39mm long compared to 38mm of the Kymco original drive boss. This I guess means that I will get 1mm less splines to use on the crankshaft. As I can see there is already a tight fit with the 38mm boss so I am worried that I will strip the splines when using the longer drive boss.

Can I use the Polini kit with my stock boss?

Super 8 / Re: Kymco Super 8 50cc 4 stroke - grinding noise
« on: April 19, 2017, 01:57:20 PM »
Just got a reply on the flywheel so this is all good. However, the mystery where the grinding noise comes from still remains.

Someone on another forum told me that he had a similar grinding noise and that he just removed the variator and then assembled the flywheel and fan first and last assembled the variator. He wrote something about that this shifted the crankshaft slightly which stopped his scooter from sounding so nasty.

Sounds like a very strange solution to me, what do you guys think?

Looked at the flywheel today and noticed 4 indents approx 90 degrees apart inside of it. Also noticed some scraping marks on the magnet. When I rotated it by hand I couldn`t see that it was hitting the pickup coil.

Should it look like this?

Finding nothing on the fan side, I would look in the CVT side. You DEFINITELY have something dragging! How many miles? How long have you had this bike? Are you the first owner?

Karl

I have looked at the CVT side. Replaced the rollers and installed a new belt. Can`t understand what is causing this sound.

I have roughly 5000 miles on the bike and I am the second owner. I have had it for almost a year and just one owner before me.

Would really appreciate if someone could help me figure out the problem.

Super 8 / Kymco Super 8 50cc 4 stroke - grinding noise
« on: April 18, 2017, 07:17:37 AM »
Have had a rattling/grinding noise coming from the fan side of the engine since last week. Tore apart the fan side of the motor and found nothing that looked wrong. However, this is the sound I get when I turn the gears that are inside (see link below)

What could cause this sound? Could it be something with the starter clutch? I have noticed that the starter slips occasionally whichs means that I have to release the start button and press it again to get the starter to grip and turn the motor around.

Note, I have no play in the crankshaft either on the fan side or on the variator side so I doubt it could be the bearings. Only play I have is maybe .5mm back and forth but no play left and right.

Super 8 / Kymco Super 8 - 4stroke 50cc - 2008
« on: April 14, 2017, 07:49:29 AM »
Hi!

My Kymco Super 8 - 4stroke 50cc - 2008 model is topping out at about 32mph even after I have removed all the restrictions. Have I missed any restriction you think?

This is what I have done so far:

- Replaced the variator boss to a smooth one
- Added 6.5gram Dr Pulley weights
- Installed a brand new belt
- Change main jet to 86 (80 was original)

I have also checked and there is no lip in the rear pulley that is restricting anything (unfortunately). What else is a restriction on this bike?

Thanks!

PS. This bike is purchased in Europe so maybe there is a difference between the US and the European sold bikes....

I just bought a super 8 4 stroke as well, how did you remove the shoulder on the variator?

I gave it to a machine shop and the machined it away. Or you could just buy a new boss without the shoulder.

Super 8 / Longest belt for Kymco Super 8
« on: August 24, 2016, 01:17:28 PM »
I have noticed that there are several belts in different lenghts that are advertised as  suitable for the Super 8 50cc. I have seen lenghts from 728mm  up to 743mm. Have anyone tried different lenghts and does it make any difference?

Super 8 / Kymco Super 8 - 4 stroke

Hi!

I just bought a 2009 Super 8 (4 stroke version) and I have removed the shoulder on the variator boss and I have also removed one of the purpole wires going into the CDI. By doing this I increased the top speed with roughly 7mph to 32mph. However, I would like the reach atleast 35mph. I noticed that the variator roller weights are pretty heavy (about 7 grams) Will I gain or loose top speed if changing to 5,5gram roller? I know that you usually loose top speed with lighter rollers but maybe the stock ones are just to heavy

Would be interesting to hear from someone who actually have experience with this scooter.

Thanks!
