Roadcraft / Texas Winter Riding
« on: January 09, 2017, 01:18:55 PM »
Got the Kymco out this weekend for about a 20 mile ride in the low thirties. This is about the coldest I think I could take without heated gloves as that was the only part that got cold.....Not cold...Numb. The large windshield really works well and could have ridden much further if only my hands could take it. This week we climb back to the high 60's but that usually means rain too so finding those perfect ride days can be a little tricky, even in balmy East Texas. My new First Gear Winter riding over pants worked like a charm as I think all I need is some of those battery operated electric inserts Stig's got and I'll be good to go. One of our saving graces here is they don't salt or sand the roads except occasionally at bridges/overpasses. So we don't have hazardous road conditions to contend with when temps warm up.

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / New Year's Eve Ride
« on: January 02, 2017, 01:14:24 PM »
The last day of the year it was a great balmy winter day for a ride on the scooter around our local lake. It was 60 degrees and the lake route has lots of twisties. The speed on this road is 45, a perfect combination for the Kymco. Seems like the more I ride it the better it runs as it hummed along in total harmony.

Bet & Win 250 / My new to me 05 BW 250
« on: December 24, 2016, 07:34:14 PM »
Hi guys. Recently purchased an 05 BW 250 that appears to have a fuel issue. It was recommended that I test the gas cap for pressurization issues. I want to also change the fuel filter and drain the gas tank as this scooter appears to have sat up for long periods. What is the recommended filter and where to buy and where is it located. Thanks guys. Can I use one from auto parts store?

General Discussion / BW 250 vs GV 250 vs Honda Reflex 250
« on: December 18, 2016, 01:26:23 PM »
The scooter bug has bit me again and this time my wife is giving me her blessings and a scooter for Christmas. CL Dallas has an 05 BW 250 FS for 1300.00 with 950 miles, a windshield, Givi top box, full service and new Michelin and no drops/damage. Also, a 2011 GV with 150 miles was just listed but don't know any other details. Looks nice though in pics (red) and selling for 1850.00. And a local Honda Reflex is FS for 1200.00 with 1000 miles in like new condition (silver).

Had considered a Vespa GT200 or GTS 250 but they go for 2-3 times the price of Kymco's and out of my budget. The Reflex is a great bike but I've already owned one and is similar to my SW. The BW 250 has some great features like new tires, windshield and Give top box but is 6 years older than the GV which does not have a luggage trunk but has very low miles. Is there much difference between the BW and GV? Any thoughts on these bikes?

General Discussion / Help picking new scooter and
« on: October 14, 2016, 12:38:36 PM »
Hi guys, sorry I've been absent lately as our business has really picked up and I've been super busy. The good news though is I now have the money for another scooter as long as Deb is harmonious with it. She knows how much I loved my People S200 the short time I owned it and hoped the day would come when I could get another Kymco.
On
Found a 2012 Like 200i with 3k for a grand on the Dallas CL. Blue and white like yours Stig and was ridden by a college kid for a few years. Original owner but has been dropped a few times and says some of the plastic is scratched but not broken and apparently broke a mirror which was replaced. Asked about service and said he did the oil change at 600 miles and one more so sounds like minimal service. The price is reasonable and probably would offer 800. I asked him to send me some pics of the Tupperware scratches tonight before committing to driving 150 miles to Dallas to see it. Does this sound like something I should pass on?

Another is a 2015 Anniversary edition with 95 miles in show room condition for 1995.00. It's a gorgeous scoter and I can afford it too ( not both of course). I'd love to have that scooter but it's double the price. What would you guys do?

General Discussion / Hots for a new Scooter
« on: July 24, 2016, 04:01:45 PM »
Here I go again surfing CL for a new scoot. Always wanted to try out a Genuine Buddy as there's one locally for sale, a 2008 Italia 150 with 14k for 1250. Now the hard part; selling this idea to Deb. The SW remains though as that's a keeper.

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / Ice Cream Rides
« on: July 13, 2016, 02:28:16 AM »
Last night, Jaxon, my 12 year old grandson visiting us for the summer, finally got grandpa to go out for a ride. We've been busy working on our place.  My grandson Jaxon, who is 12, is staying with us for the summer as he lives in Layton, Utah. Last night we made an ice cream run to Dairy Queen after riding the twisties around our lake. He's been chomping at the bit ever since he got here to go riding but first we had to get past our birthday bash we had this weekend with my kids/grandkids from San Diego and Austin.

He did great, leaning in the corners on my SW and we stayed out later than planned as it was 9:00 by the time we got our hot fudge sundaes. As we turned down our county road off the state highway heading home,  my wife passed us as she was worried and went out looking for us. Typical Mom.

General Discussion / Riding into the sunset of our Golden Years
« on: July 10, 2016, 01:29:53 PM »
A client of mine, Bill, who was having lots of health issues told me;  "the Golden Years aren't so golden. First they took away my motorcycle, then they took away my cows and next they'll take away my pants."  Bill and Marie had a good life though and owned their own tour bus company and drove their bus all over America. He rode a Honda 750 with Marie and yes they did some cattle ranching too.

Riding into my Golden Years at 66 is, at this time, a great time of my life as I have no health issues, take no medication and can out work all of my younger crew in my construction business. So, the forecast so far for my journey looks excellent for anything and everything I want to do, including riding.

Had the grandkids in this weekend from California for a birthday party and pulled the Silverwing out for them to sit on. As I looked her over I  thought,  "this is one fine machine" as this scoot is a keeper and may well be my last one too. Lot's of memories over the years riding all over the country.....wonderful memories. And it's so exciting to know that there's lots more ahead for this ole geezer.

General Discussion / New Summer Riding Vistas
« on: July 02, 2016, 05:33:05 PM »
Just when I thought the doldrums of hot summer riding began to settle in, a neat little twist, a new summer riding vista emerges. My 12 year old nephew arrives for the whole summer from Utah. And of course he wants to go riding which we plan to do as soon as we get past our family reunion coming up next week at our place. So for the next week it's washing windows, cleaning up and yard work. As soon as we get out for ice cream runs I'll snap a few pics. Anything new for y'all this summer, riding wise?

Happy Father's Day Dad's. Our role as Father's is pivotal to the family unit and fundamental to the survival of our species. Good on you for remaining steadfast in your resolve to be there through thick and thin and never abandoning your post. This is truly a great thing and one to be recognized in these times of single parent households. Blessings Dad's everywhere.

General Discussion / Sold my Kymco.
« on: June 13, 2016, 01:00:37 PM »
As some of you may recall, I bought a People S 200 back in the Spring and joined this forum. I originally purchased to flip it as I thought I bought it at a low price and planned to make a profit. The past few months has been a blast riding the Kymco around town as I completed the original engine break-in as the Scooter only had 180 miles.

Yesterday a gentleman whom had previously inquired and  contacted me and wanted to come see it. He was looking for a light weight scooter that could be mounted on the rear of his motorhome. It was love at first sight as he bought it and rode it home. I told Jeff about this forum as he may drop in and hopefully join.

It was a mixed blessing as we needed the monies to fix my truck that I heavily damaged both rear fenders when jackknifing my motorcycle trailer. Unfortunately couldn't file on insurance due to a recent claim. So, these monies will be used towards an indestructible flat bed replacement.  I say mixed blessing as I had never owned a scooter in the sub 200cc class and I loved it. Yea, I could have used a little more top end on the state highways but in town, little scoots rock. The Kymco was far more fun riding in urban settings than my Silverwing. I hope to get another Kymco in my future as I was really impressed with my P200.

Like I said before, I like this forum and plan to stick around and kick some scooter tires together.

If money was no object and you could have any scooter/bike you'd want; what would it be?  Saw this little beauty FS on Dallas CL. I'm drooling all over this yellow banana.

Show and tell what you use your scooters for. I use mine for multi uses like grocery shopping, construction bids, camping and two up touring.  Here's one from the other day as we decided to make nacho's and needed a little something to go with it. The Burgman shot with me and camping gear riding down to South Texas for a ride at the Three Twisted Sisters. Deb and I at Talimena Dr. in Arkansas and another at Magazine Mtn. Arkansas.

General Discussion / Theft proofing our scooters
« on: May 07, 2016, 08:59:43 PM »
Karl's recent loss of his scooter reminded me of how precious our scooters are to us. How can we theft proof our scooters to minimize our exposure to these horse thieves? Horse thieves were once hanged for their offence. So we don't take kindly to anyone touching our bikes, moving them and taking off with them.

Several have mentioned some after market mods like hidden fuel petcocks, switches, chains, cables, padlocks and brake rotor locks. Perhaps you may like to share your tips and what works for you.

Again Karl, our hearts go out to ya Bro.
