Go to ebay motors and type in (BOX), Xciting 500 batteries. You will find a few lithium battery sellers. I would go with the one that sells for around $208.00! That should do the trick. If bike won't start with the lithium the first try, turn the key on for about 1 minute or so, the battery will heat up, and the cranking amps will go up as well, as the battery heats up. Every time you crank the engine, the cranking amps go up on a lithium battery, not down like on a lead acid. Sounds strange, but this is how they work. Should fire right up. :-*
Sounds like a great way to get over the problem.  Good one ...

I hope that works out for you.  I tried that for awhile, but my charging system was not up to scratch and they would both go flat. So, a new stator came into the picture, and then a regulator.

Yep same problem, so tested the alternator field windings, tested okay, tested the regulator (as per book workshop book instructions) and it needed to be replaced.  That done it appears to work fine.  Still keep the trickle charger working.

You sure your tyre was inflated to correct pressure.?
Regarding starting issues : i had same issue. I suggest stator, regulator, gel battery and if really needed, a trickle battery charger.

In terms of starting I added a 12v battery same size as original in parallel and that has helped enormously.  A bit of work getting it in also keep batteries topped up with trickle charger..

My 500i does the same...  I haven't worried too much about as my scoot gets moving it stops.  It happens at slow speeds.

Whoa, wait Ossie and Wayne! Does that mean there is something MISSING under that rubber-like weather cap?

Karl

Hmmm I looked at that Crossbolt, the weather seal is intact and okay, but I think the  rubber just misses the micro switch when pushed.  At least I know how to fix it.

I would like to fix is the speedo.  It reads 10kms (6mph) fast at 70kms (45mph).  This is very frustrating to say the least.  Any ideas??
Thanks.

Wkreps, you hit the nail on the head..  Did what you suggested an magically the light went out.  Great to know what the light means, thanks Karl.

Cheers

In order to get mine reset last time I actually had to take out the rubber seal (button) and look down through to the circuit board and press the button with a toothpick or something similar. I would not use a metal object as you are pushing it towards a circuit board and you don't want to connect two circuits by accident.

Thanks wkreps I will give that ago.

I just read the 500i Owner's manual and nothing indicates how long you should hold the oil service light button down. That does NOT mean anything since there are errors and omissions in all the books, service and owner's alike. I am guessing since I do not have experience with the X- 500i but how long do you have to hold the button to shift or clear odometers? Use that time interval and see what happens. The oil service light is triggered by the odometer every 625 miles! Great for first service since new and useless there on. Your bike new? Warranty issue if it is and you have tried everything. I will bet one of the X-500i riders here will have a good answer for you when they finally come home from work and read your post.

Karl
Thanks Karl.

On mine you gotta hold that button down for about 5 seconds or so then the display goes to zero otherwise it shows how many miles since last time it was reset.

Hi Charlie, around 600 to 700 miles ago.  Had new filters and oil.
Yes I've held the button in for 5 seconds but it still shines...
Does this light work on miles on the clock?

Hi folks, my oil service light magically turned itself on and I can't turn it off.  I have pushed the 'oil service' button but alas no joy.  My scooter was serviced around 1000kms ago...
I'm thinking it should do better than 1000kms
Appreciate comments thanks
Ossie

People GT 300i / Re: Engine overheating

I live in Western Australia just south of Perth.  The summer temp is around 32c during late December to end of March.  Some days during this period get to 45c and I don't have any trouble with over heating.  Oh I have a kymco 500i.  I don't think I have heard the fan kick in either......

Hi all, I own a 500i and after many years of difficult starting my scooter decided to not start at all...
I found this forum and made excellent reading.
So where do I start.  New battery, worked for a week then the same...
Next check all battery connections.  After checking the battery leads I decided they were too light, so had new ones made..... Still won't start.
Next look at current draw and voltage drop.
On cranking around 300amps and volt drop to 10.  Not a good look.
So take the starter out, dismantle it, clean it out, make sure brushes aren't sticking, put armature into lathe, gently clean the commutator and clean the dust from the slots on com.
Lube the bushes and reassemble.
Do a no load test.  The rpm was around 10000.  The current draw was 23amps and volt drop was 2.  The battery was fully charged at 13.7, so down to 11. 7.  I thought the rpm was a little fast, but other measurements okay.
Pop starter into position but alas still won't start. Arrrr what to do next...
Onto phone to local kymco dealer, spoke with the spare parts guy.  He was brilliant, very helpful.  I decided to purchase a new starter.  He also suggested I look at "the brass part on the left side of throttle body". I removed the part and very carefully cleaned the black soot then reassemble.
When I got the new starter I did all the same checks, it also run at around 10000rpm and current draw and volt drop very similar...  The f word popped out of my mouth.... However what I did notice was the sound of the starters was different, the original sounded like the bushes were worn.  I suspect the bush at the comm end is the problem.
Notwithstanding I placed the new starter in, run another earth direct to the starter. Now fingers crossed hit the starter button.  Joy!! It bursted into life.
So as its winter time here (Busselton Western Australia) I thought let's wait till morning when it's at its coldest and to my surprise it fired up with no problem.
This is what I think the problems were.
1. Battery needs to have enough CCA
2. Original leads are not 'heavy' enough
3. Starter bushes were worn.
Let's hope I have joy for the next 5 years.
I will try and replace the bush in the old starter and keep as a spare.
Happy scooting folks.
