General Discussion / Camping on 2 wheels
« on: April 02, 2014, 11:20:34 AM »
I was requested to write up some info on Minimalist camping on two wheels (scooter/motorcycle) and I have to do a bit of hunting for photos I'd like to include, but I thought I'd give a taste of info.

This is a (currently) 500 page discussion on ADVrider on the exact subject. Lots of excellent info!!

And other links to a wealth of motorcycle camping info!! Everything from Scooter to 2 wheeled land yachts pulling trailers.  ;D

General Discussion / Today is the day!!
« on: March 14, 2014, 11:34:35 AM »
I'm about to go shower and get ready to go to work, and today is the first day I'll be riding my $500 People 50!!!

I bought it at the beginning of winter, it's a 2005 that was a salvage title scooter I found on Craigslist down in the Quad Cities, IA.

It had issues, and I've stored it in my kitchen all winter.. It gave me something to work on when I felt like it.. The seat had issues (cracked, torn, screwed up latch) and was replaced. One brake lever was broken and the other was bent. I replaced them, the floorboard rubber, and modified all the latches so everything worked as they should. Tire pressure checked, all lights operating, plenty of gas (with Seafoam) and the oil reservoir is full of extremely high quality synthetic 2 stroke oil..

Since I'll be riding it 10 miles of basically (sub)urban riding to work, I bought a nice 25L top box to toss my lunch in, lock up my jacket, get a gallon of milk, etc.. That got mounted last night.

Well, it's 40 degrees out and I have no excuse not to ride... License plate mounted, insurance card tucked away ($28 a year, yeah baby) and I have plenty of cold weather riding gear.

My concern is that I've ridden this scooter a total of 4 blocks. Two when I bought it, two when I got home in December. So, my fingers are crossed that I won't have to walk at some point, as this is the shakedown run. :)

Fingers are crossed..

Photo of it in the parking lot at the office, hopefully to follow. :)

Technical | How To / Top Box Suggestions Desired
« on: March 11, 2014, 11:38:23 AM »
Not really "technical" but we don't have a Modification or Farkle forum here..

I've got a 2005 People 50 and I'm looking for suggestions for a box to mount on the rear rack.
I'm looking for something medium sized that would maybe hold a helmet? Mostly looking for additional enclosed storage for getting groceries and a place to throw lunch for my ride to work.

I didn't know if there's something made for the rear rack or not?? I can always fit a universal box from eBay, but I was hoping for something nice and clean looking, and sturdy so I don't have to continuously wonder if it's still back there. :)

For Sale / Wanted: Headlight trim ring for a 2005 People 50

My scooter was a theft recovery and the trim ring is missing.. Even a scratched one would be fine, as I'm going to plasitcote it anyway..

General Discussion / Forum question (Why no auto notify)
« on: December 18, 2013, 02:25:19 PM »
I've been on several forums over the years and have even been moderator/super moderator/admin on a couple..

Why doesn't this forum have the switch flipped to allow your choice of auto notification on any topic you reply on? I've looked through the User CP several times and can't find this option.

If I reply to a topic, I want to read what others reply.. And I don't want to have to remember to push the "notify" button to do so.. Most forums have a choice on the notify issue, but it's not an option here..

Could it become an option? Or did I just miss it in the User CP?

General Discussion / It's official... I have a scooter issue
« on: December 02, 2013, 01:05:37 PM »
Not mechanical, but overall.. I took inventory of the garage and found the following:

3 motorcycles
4 scooters

A 2005 People 50 followed me home this weekend, tipping the scale to the scooter side.. I'm concerned about my safety and well being.. :)

First post here, so I thought I'd say Hi.
