General Discussion / down for the count!
« on: May 29, 2012, 04:52:26 PM »
Fell today! Was riding home from groc store and in the neighborhood. From a stop making a left turn  on loose asphalt  gravel. I don't know why but I fell to the right side . Maybe I felt it going and over reacted but it seems to me the fall should have been to the left. My super 8 hardly shows any damage from the fall. I have a Givi and it had some groceries in it maybe making it top heavy or placing too much weight on rear wheel. I wasn't driving radical at all.Well as I have read , the majority of all accidents happen within a five mile radius of home. I was less than a mile.
Hey! There is loose gravel on all corners in my neighborhood. I guess I should wear full body armor?
By the way asphalt is HARD!  Oh! It was embarrassing too!
No injuries other than light road rash and slight ache on right foot that got caught under  scoot.
I forgot to mention that my Givi held up and also may have saved some cowling damage by elevating bike on fall. Stronger than I would have thought!

General Discussion / nimble adiction

After owning a 150 cc scooter, is it possible to  like a larger scooter.I keep looking at larger scooters (250's and 400's) but they just don't seem to be as metro oriented as the 150. The super 8 seems to be a do it all scooter and to top it off it is a very maneuverable ride. The only flaw so far is the stiff suspension and storage (no place for garage door opener).
Anyone out there gone from a 150 to 250 and are sorry to have done so?How much difference is there in turning and city riding. The mpg's are near the same unless everyone is stretching the truth  about gas mileage.

General Discussion / Lack of storage?
« on: May 07, 2012, 08:26:25 PM »
My supper 8 has no place in front to put loose items or spare keys etc. So maybe a good alternative would be a fanny pak, or waist pak.
I bet someone has already thought of that!

Went to view this today! Made me fall back in love with my super 8. Yamaha Morphus,,,not for me. It  felt very balanced and good low center of gravity. It actually had a parking brake. $2500 not bad if you are in the market for one.

General Discussion / safety
« on: May 06, 2012, 02:14:08 AM »
I don't know about guys (gals) but I am constantly learning  a "new not to do" thingie. If you aren't killed making these little mistakes then you may say you are lucky. But , you may not always be so lucky.
Every time you board your ride you must remind your self you are riding a scooter not driving a car. Get you head straight before you begin your ride.
Always practice making your turns sharp and tight need to or not . One wide turn might be your last.It will become automatic. It is my opinion that you never head for the center lane until you have first entered the lane closest to you. From there merge if you need to.
When riding in safe zones we become complacent and then enter a hazard zone with some of that complacent attitude, and that is where we may make a deadly error. You have treat all zones as if they are hazard zones so you don't get caught off guard.
I' m sure some of you can add some experience or good habit you have obtained in your months and years of riding. I was almost clipped today and only because of a wide turn I made. The driver in the car could've cared less and buzzed on by. Good thing he wasn't multitasking!

General Discussion / locking scooter
« on: May 02, 2012, 06:03:01 PM »
I have noticed lately, how easy it is to accidentally leave scooter unlocked . You almost need to have a check off list to be sure of not walking off forgetting something.
I have once walked off with the key in the seat lock. Locking the bike isn't fun and takes some time. I currently use a brake lock and a cable lock (for pole etc).
I am seeking new means and ideas that make it easier. Maybe even a easy to remember check list would be good.

Technical | How To / a mod not to miss out on
« on: March 06, 2012, 06:44:54 PM »
This has to do wth a previous post in eye candy called "Knight Riderz".I have installed them on my scoot on the trunk carrier. I did this so there is no pluging and unpluging of wires etc.
So what you do is get a small piece of angle metal ,or make one by bending the thin metal on a vice (90*). Then while holding (clamping) to (under) the trunk carrier rack ,drill two holes into metal from above drilling through rack at same time. this is where two 6/32 screws and nuts will mount to bracket that will hold the Knight Riderz lights . The lights come with sticky tape and holds fine but you must drill  hole for wires to pass through on bracket. I also countersunk screws to keep a  smooth surface.
I bought my bracket material  from Home Depot and is a perforated stud nail support that I bent in vice.  It was near the same size of light strip with small amount cutting (hack saw) needed. My carrier rack (givi) was black so I painted bracket black .Don't forget to file surfaces to remove sharp edges. With a small amount of time this a mod you will apprediate having done for your safety and nice looks.
With the trunk off the light is up high and very noticable, with rack ,,with trunk on tail light below this light is very much more noticeable. Very easy mod and wires into existing tail light wires.

General Discussion / motorcycle mechanic
« on: March 04, 2012, 07:14:35 PM »

A mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the engine of a kymco super 8
scooter when he spotted a well-known heart surgeon in his shop. The
mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey, Doc, can I ask you a question?"

The surgeon a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic working on the
scooter.

The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So Doc,
look at this engine. I open its heart, take the valves out, fix 'em, put 'em
back in, and when I finish, it works just like new. So how come I get such a
small salary and you get the really big bucks, when you and I are doing
basically the same work?"

The surgeon paused, smiled and leaned over, and whispered to the mechanic...

"Try doing it with the engine running."

General Discussion / boots for riding
« on: March 04, 2012, 05:32:43 PM »
icon- tarmac boots are good , not too hich or too low,,,be sure to know your size (they run about 1/2 size small)  when ordering and do not forget to get a long shoe horn (just eases getting them on),,,you will like them
when I took msf class my instructor spoke of hitting a bull when riding home one night night. He said he could have gone home un injured but for his foot getting badly scraped while sliding on pavement.Spent four days in hospital getting skin grafts. He was waring sneakers  (canvas shoes).
Needles to say , I wear boots!

Anyone seen this? I was curious about scooter popularity in Taiwan and this popped up. By the way, I found out too late my Super 8 is made in China and I swear I would not have ever bought it had I known.Sob, sob! Be careful what you buy!

fyi-This a basic course in stators and theory that cause electric flow in your scooter.May be helpful in the future for trouble shooting shutdowns etc. It is interesting to say the least.

General Discussion / hidden info ,,,,,profile
« on: February 25, 2012, 04:57:53 PM »
OK it's fine to keep some info out of profile but to hide city and state etc, is a little overboard.
I saw a post that was showing a new scoot and I was wondering where it was bought or sold ,mainly to see if  in which country. Some scooters are listed USA but not carried by all dealers.
Wow! Why join a forum if you are not going to contribute to it?
Just a thought!
