Quannon / Has the Quannon been pulled from the US Kymco lineup?
« on: August 25, 2011, 02:49:45 PM »

I don't see it at the Kymco USA website any more. There are still some 2010 models at some dealers. One has them for $2895, and that includes freight and delivery fees.

People 150 / Re: How accurate is your fuel gauge?
« on: February 14, 2011, 04:47:50 AM »
Mine really drops from the 1/4 mark. It was heading towards empty and it took 1.22 (plus some Stabil for storage) to fill it. Looks like about 75 mpg.

People 150 / How accurate is your fuel gauge?
« on: February 12, 2011, 03:12:45 AM »
Just got my new 2009 P150 this last Tuesday. It's at around 125 kilometers on the odometer right now and the fuel gauge reads just a little under half. The spec says it has a 1.8 gallon tank. So how accurate is your fuel gauge? How far do you run the gauge down before you fill?
I can't seem to post pictures, as they are too big I guess.
    Thanks, Jon

Yeah, but the good news is, you got the broken piece out. It could have been stuck into the drain hole very tightly.

Venox 250 / Venox still being made?
« on: January 14, 2011, 07:40:24 PM »
Just wondering if Kymco still make the Venox. There is a new on on craigslist that I think is a 2008. I always thought they were a great looking motorcycle, and the youtube videos I've seen show it to be a great sounding bike too. I would be concerned about parts availability though.

Super 8 150 / Re: Just got Super 8; How should I break it in?
« on: January 13, 2011, 03:37:26 AM »

Also you want to vary the throttle often, as in don't just cruise around at the same speed. Also, ride a while and then take a break and let it cool down. In usually do a quick oil change and , in the case of these scooters, check the oli filter/screen for deposits. On my wife's SYM I believe I went ahead and changed oil at about 50-60 miles and checked the screen--it was fine. then I let the dealer do the first service. That was more to not be able to try and void the warranty because they didn't do the first service. Legally, I don't think they could void the warranty if you do the service yourself, but I didn't want to give them any amunition.

The ideal place to break in a scooter or motorcycle is probably just cruising around a neighborhood with lots of stop signs., some hills and such.

Others will chime in here I'm sure.

General Discussion / Re: W.T.F.s UP??

I had someone get into my yahoo email account and steal all my email addresses. Then they use my name on the heading to try to get them to open it. My computer guy at work said, first, delete my email address list on yahoo. If you are smarter than I am you could transfer the address list to the gmail site. I couldn't do it, so I just wrote the addresses down and deleted the yahoo address list. gmail is supposed to be much more secure than yahoo.

But he also said there is no way to stop them now that they have the addsress list. The spam emails are not coming from my yahoo email account. They just use my name to try to get someone to open the spam.    The first spam were from some drug company. Then there was spam from something called emailtogod or some such. That's pretty funny, since I don't have a religious bone in my body.

Anyway, it's exasperatinmg as hell. If I could only meet the SOB that did this face to face!!

General Discussion / Kymco service manuals??
« on: January 05, 2011, 05:35:57 AM »

I wanted to get a service manual for the scooter I recently bought-a new 2009 People 150. So I called a nearby Vespa/Kymco dealer to see if they could order me one. I talked to the service guy there, and he told me there is no Kymco service manuals. That I should just buy the Haynes scooyter repair book. Is this true? No service manuals for the individual Kymco scooters?

  Thanks, jon

Xciting 500 / Re: Gas mileage
« on: December 26, 2010, 01:41:07 AM »

I know that a scooter with CVT trans can't really be compared to a 500cc motorcycle as far as gas mileage-but I'll do it anyway. I've owned four 500cc motorcycles. First was my 1964 BSA 500 twin. But I never checked gas mileage in those days. So here's what the other three got: 1991 Kawasaki EX500 (Ni nja) averaged right at 65 mpg; 1982 Suzuki SP500 dual sport thumper averaged right at y65mpg; 2007 Royal Enfield 500 Bullet (true old time thumper) averaged around 68-75 mpg. The Enfield never touched a freeway as it is/was designed to run at 50 mph and really no more.

My 2006 HD XL883 Sportster gets 45-52 mpg.

I do think that generally speaking, a scooter and a motorcycle with the same displacement-the motorcycle will probably do a little better.

Technical | How To / Re: Diesel oil for a scooter?
« on: December 16, 2010, 06:40:34 AM »
So right! The difference between the 15W-40 and 10W-40 was amazing. And yet, both my Sportster and my Royal Enfield 500 Bullet (for sale) do just bfine running 20W-50 oil all winter long.

Wow. I very recently had someone somehow used my email addresses to send spam to people whose email addresses were in my computer. It was spam for some drug company. So they got into my computer somehow.I wouldn't have even known it except that it sent my wife one of the spams. Is that the kind of thing we're talking about?

General Discussion / Re: HD200 vs LX 150
« on: December 12, 2010, 05:47:35 AM »
When my wife wanted a bigger scooter after riding a Honda Metro (totally trouble free!) for a few years, I did the research, and did a test ride on a SYM HD200. We bought that scooter (It's a 2008). We have zero regrets. This thing can easily do freeways. It's a four valve water cooled motor, and it's a sweet running (compartative) powerhouse. Yes, it doesn't have a kick starter. But then, I understande the Vespas have a problem of cracking the engine cases if you use the kicker, and they are removing them from the fuel injected models, because, with FI if your battery is dead (which is why you are using the kicker) you can't use a kick start anyway. That's because you have to have battery current to operate the fuel pump before you start the engine.

I have seen leftover 2008 and 2009 HD200s for $2600 out the door. The 16 inch wheels are really nice handling too.We are getting in the 70s as far as gas mileage. It's just an awesome scooter. Just read a message from a couple that have two HD125s (same as the 200 but bored and/or stroked engiens) that just relaced the first belt at 26,000 miles. They said it was in such good shape that they kept it for a spare. I haven't needed any parts yet, but they say you can get parts out of Canada or Taiwan fro Scooter Assasins.

Nothing against Vespas.I like the S150. Just bought myself a new Kymco People 150 as it was a deal I couldn't refuse.

Good luck in your choice. I suggest you test ride an HD200 (and even the HD125 is pretty fast).

Super 8 150 / Re: Super 8 info
« on: December 11, 2010, 03:52:47 AM »
I hear you. I just couldn't turn down the People 150 at that price. And I won't have to pay big bucks to have it shipped. I don't think I can go wrong with this scooter.Great warranty.Very deoendable reputation.Pretty easy to work on.Kymco quality.Im sure it'll get 70+ mpg.Cruise at 50-55. I couldn't get one for this price in my home state.

My wife's SYM, also with 16 inch wheels, handles and rides very well, and I expect the People will to. I may have considered another SYM, but for two reasons.First, therev is no SYM dealer on the Big Island. Second, I don't like what I'm hearing about soeone stepping up and taking over where Carter Bros. left off. With virtually no US importer anymore, parts avaialability is going to get worse. Too bad, as the SYM line is filled with very good and soldi scooters.
