Title: Holy intersection crash, Batman!
Post by: CROSSBOLT on January 14, 2017, 08:34:39 PM
Thursday was warm and free of rain (mostly) and I found a Honey-do requirement to ride to get. The DT and me were riding West on the crossbar of a T intersection. Lady in a KIA stops at the required spot to my right. At that moment I should have executed the SMIDSY maneuver because as we were closing on the point of impact she spurts ahead! I am moving to the left as she stops again and the we are past out of danger. SMIDSY is an acronym learned over on the Maxiscoot forum and it stands for, "Sorry Mister I Didn't See You." The maneuver is to weave noticably within your lane to give the other guy/gal some horizontal relative motion thereby increasing you chances of actually being seen.

Glad it worked out and you’re all right. I remember that thread over at Maxi-scoots as well. Good tactic and you’re proof that it works.

Glad you are alright Karl! I frequently use the SMIDSY maneuver myself. Never can be too careful.......

"Holy intersection crash, Batman!"  A rare TV Batman reference.  Excellent!

Use that manuver too Karl to alert drivers of my approach towards them. I also ride with my high beams on too. Glad it turned out OK. A true pucker moment for sure.
