General Discussion / Stig - dawn riding pour le rendez-vous aussi
« on: June 01, 2024, 09:10:14 PM »
Much like our man, Stig - meandering through rural Ohio at daybreak for his rendezvous, also, but with a coffee....

The French gentleman in this clip races at dawn through the mostly deserted streets of Paris to keep his promised rendezvous at Montmartre. He parks in front of the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, at the highest point in the city....and they have a squeeze!

Well. To each his own!

There is controversy about what car was used - and at what speed it traveled. Who cares!
The main thing is no pigeons were hurt!

LIKE 200i / LIKE200i accessories holding up well
« on: June 01, 2024, 02:40:29 PM »
REPOST from 2017 :

Bought my LIKE200iLX a little over 4 years ago.
First accessory I installed that summer was a full set of the Kymco crash bars - just for the looks of them!
Next were a pair of long stemmed FAR mirrors from Italy to see behind me. The mirrors and the crash bars have been waxed several times - and except for the Italian screws - are free of rust.
.

Next I installed the lighted Bestem 929 top case - purely for the added night riding safety. I do put things in the case , but mainly it's value to me is its wrap-around running lights and brake lights. Is is also priced at @ 20% of the two major brands of lighted cases. The case has worked flawlessly for me for nearly 4 yrs.
I do wish they made a slightly smaller version.

Then there is the battery tender - which I keep stepping on - but works fine.

And the Tiny Tac that I put on about 3 yrs ago. Easy installation & works great. Applied with a bit of red 3M autobody tape.

Philips MotoVision orange bulb was installed a year or so ago. I like it. I ride in the dark every day. As advertised, the different color seems to get me noticed.

Not an accessory - but the thing that enables me to enjoy hours, rather than minutes, of riding my LIKE is the seat rebuild which I did on a used 50cc LIKE seat from ebay ($30) BTW- that Sailrite 4-way stretch vinyl seat covering I used has proven to be good stuff....they make custom motorcycle seat covers with it, so figured it would be a quality vinyl. Beats the heck out of fabric store vinyl!

All in all, the few accessories I have installed are holding up well.
(inside the scoot are a set of Dr. Pulley 14g sliders, an NGK Iridium spark plug, a Yamaha fuel pump a bigger YUASA battery for my winter starts in the boonies, and Michelin tires either end)
Love this scooter.

Crazy.

But the pros keep it on the track.....not the streets.

Ol' Vinny and I get to enjoy a little 'taste'.
Yeah, don't get into a drink-until-your-ears-fall-off contest with this guy!

The poor guys who own new Vespas in the U.K. and Europe lose sleep over corrosion from the damp conditions.
Vespa steadfastly refuses to apply any 'proofing' during the build process - which would cost a Euro or two and would be dead simple - so, from Day-One, the owners  sweat what is going on inside, and on the belly's of their metal eggs!

OK - bit of a stretch - after I got home the other morning, this photo reminded me of something I'd seen before.

Not that I've seen the original, which is in the Netherlands.
This painting came to be known as Vincent's, Cafe' Terrace At Night
....BUT, when first displayed the title was,  "Coffeehouse, in the evening" ~!

that's all I got....

While riding this morning I watched one of those little side-walk, french-fry eating, sparrows chasing a squirrel across the street right in front of me!
Funniest thing - that large squirrel had his tail up and was really beating feet to get away from that tiny bird which was right on his butt!

...an example of some kind of physics? or?

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / planned a Mem Day rain ride...but no!
« on: May 28, 2024, 03:08:57 PM »
Went to bed after laying out my wet gear for rainy/dark sunrise ride on Memorial Day. I kind of enjoy the challenge and senility serenity of dark rain rides!

Ah....but no. The band of storms passed before I could join in! I'm the blue dot.

So, out watching for downed branches and puddles hiding pot holes!

Moon over field of young corn

Pond, Y.S.

once in the village, I walked down to collect the chess pieces - thinking the storm must have scattered them.
Nope~! - they are nicely weighted!

Very nice morning for a ride. Traffic very light!...not that there is ever very much at sunrise.

I told Dino that this morning....
Then he smiled at me, while stirring my coffee with his finger.

Ed said, "what!?...did you expect a hug?!"

Too clever for my own good some mornings.

General Discussion / about to turn 20,000 miles on the LIKE200iLX
« on: May 25, 2024, 04:32:06 PM »
I noticed on the speedo this morning....
Next week or three I will hit 20,000 miles on the LIKE - purchased new @ May 2013.
There were several weeks when I was only riding one scooter - while the LIKE was in the shop for warranty work.

So I figure I've ridden 40,000 miles on scooters since 2013, because I've always alternated rides with at least one other scooter.
I owned 3 Honda motorcycles in my early days, (before joining the games in Vietnam)  - all new. Loved them each!...but never kept mileage records.
I know there are guys here who've ridden that many in 2 yrs.
But - that is my number.

General Discussion / Memorial W/E off to a great start!
« on: May 25, 2024, 03:18:34 PM »
Yesterday - daughter needed to use a laundromat for some large items - so good excuse to use the one in Yellow Springs!
Then, we hit Miguel's food truck for his great tacos!

Finding a place to sit with food is a bit of a dice roll in YS - but the UnderDog makes their patio available , once their patrons are seated. (or buy a muffin from the 'Dog and camp out there!)

back to the tacos - the side sauces are.....violent!

Y.S. will be very busy this holiday w/e. Lots of folks and flags out already yesterday (Fri)

Stig

PS: a young deer walked past us on the sidewalk as we exited the laundromat! In the village center traffic and crowds - the poor thing looked sacred and lost - "how to find my way back to the forest?" Sadly - it was headed in the wrong direction.

General Discussion / Your vehicles. the various countries ?
« on: May 21, 2024, 11:54:30 AM »
I've owned vehicles that were made in:
Canada, USA, China, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Germany and France.
But biggest surprise was deciphering the VIN and learning that I was driving around Massachusetts in a car made in Austria! ('91 VW Vanagon GL)

YOU?

Stig
(I did ride in an MGB, and  Saab....but those don't count)
Most fun: riding from Boston to NYC in Charlie's old 3 cyl. 2 stroke Saab, and a couple of 2CV's in Paris.
