Xciting 500 / Re: Indel Classic Rocket Sidecar
« on: December 04, 2014, 09:36:37 PM »
Thanks for the advice. I have talked to the people at Saferwholesale.com  where I purchased the sidecar kit. First of all I didn't get what I ordered from them. They have a Classic Rocket and a Standard Rocket sidecar kit listed on their website. I ordered a Classic Rocket for a Kymco Scooter. When I ordered they took all the specifics about my scooter to ensure I got the correct mounting hardware. Well the sidecar kit I got is not either a Classic or a Standard. It is a standard with a couple of upgrades plus a headlight kit I didn't order. Also the markings on the crate say for a Motorcycle. The mounting hardware is a universal motorcycle mounting kit. After many phone calls and emails I finally talked to someone that seems to know a little about sidecars. They insist the tub I got is the unit I ordered but they are going to send me a universal scooter mounting kit and a wheel without a brake kit. The manager says the last few times he ordered scooter mounting hardware for maxi scooters the owners actually ended up needing motorcycle mounting kits and that is why he sent a motorcycle kit. At any rate hopefully one day I will figure out how to install this thing on my scooter. The only instructions I have seen are for mounting on a Royal Enfield motorcycle and a Suzuki Burgman scooter. When it is all said and done I will probably end up have to fabricate some brackets myself.
Oh what fun!

Xciting 500 / Indel Classic Rocket Sidecar
« on: November 26, 2014, 12:49:46 AM »
I recently purchased an Inder Classic Rocket Sidecar for use on my '09 Kymco 500ri. I have seen pics on the internet of 500ri's with sidecars, so i know it is doable. The Indel is a Cosy knockoff but for the price looks like a good unit. I bought it from Safewholesale.com, which I don't recommend. When I ordered it they assured me the attachment kit would be matched for my scooter. As it turns out I got a universal sidecar mount. My question is, has anyone else taken on mounting a sidecar on their 500ri? If so, where did you attach the sidecar mounts on your scooter. Maybe you can offer a web site with some info? Maybe you could take some pics of your installation with attach points? I have just begun taking the plastic off so I can get a good view of the possible attach points. Boy, taking the panels of this scooter are a nightmare. Still trying to get the side panels off the side of the hump. I did just read some old posts from 2010 describing how to do this. I have been riding and working on motorcycles for 45 years but am relatively new to the scooter world. I have had my 500ri for 3 years but have never had to take the covers off. I also have a BMWK1200LT and a KLR 650 Kawawaki so the 500ri has very low miles. I bought it for my wife but she had a tip over and is now scared of it. It is my hope the sidecar will entice her to ride more, at least around town. Thanks for any help or advice anyone can offer me.

Technical | How To / Position Lights or Parking Lights
« on: August 01, 2013, 03:38:42 AM »
I have an '09 xCiting 500 ri. I recently had to replace the front cowl and headlight assembly following an accident. During the process of replacing these I discovered the two "position" lights that located inside the headlight assembly. The wiring harness connects to the back of the lights but can't find a way to turn them on. I checked the owners manual and these lights are called position lights or what we in the US would call parking lights. The owners manual also shows some switches on the right handlebar that turns these lights on and also turns the headlight off. I would suspect these switches (controls) are only on the non US models since federal laws say all m/c headlights have to be on all the time. Where these controls should be on my scooter there is a blank that covers that hole. Has anyone else encountered this and given it any thought? Are the connectors and related wiring harness in place behind this blank cover? Does anyone have a part number for the switch assembly that is used on the non US (European) models? Maybe it would be possible to order the European switch assy and simple plug it in. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I had to do a lot of looking before I found an owners manual too. I finally found it and saved it on my desk top. I can't remember where I found it but it is a 3 in one owners manual as it included the 300, 500i, and 500i ABS. If you give me you email addy I can send a copy to you.

WOW, the Kymco forum is not nearly as informative as other forums I use. 129 views and only a couple of replies. Surely someone else has an idea why the U.S. models have the lights but not the switches to turn them on. I thought for sure someone had wondered about this and found a source for the European switching. Maybe there aren't as many Kymco scooters out there as I thought. Maybe I posted in the wrong category?

Like I said, they are connected a wiring harness so they are designed to get power at some time. All I can guess is they would work if the European handle bar switches that are shown in the owners manual were there to connect to. They are called position lights in the manual, which I would interpret to mean parking lights. I am thinking about rewiring them to come on with my headlight. Also, I still don't know why there is an additional set of wires for blinkers. Maybe the European models have some additional lights too? Certainly someone else has noticed this and wondered about it before.

I will post a pic when I get a chance, but the two bulbs I am talking about are inside the headlight assembly and are located on each side of the main headlight bulb. They plug into the wiring harness that connects to the main headlight bulb.
Check out the wiring on this parts list for the headlight assembly.

My wife recently had an accident on her '09 xCiting 500ri and I had to replace the front fairing and the headlight assembly. I bought this scooter new a few months ago and only while replacing the headlight assembly did I notice that there are two bulbs in the headlight that I can't figure out how to turn on. In the manual they are called position lights which I assume would be parking lights. The problem is the manual shows a control switch on the right handle bar that controls these lights. My scooter does not have this switch which also turns the headlight off. I guess U.S. models don't allow the headlight to be turned off. There are also two additional wiring harnesses under the fairing that match the wiring and connectors that connect to the turn signals. Has anyone else noticed these bulbs and figured out a way to power them without the switch mechanism. Also, any idea why there are extra wires for the turn signals?
Thanks,
Steve

Technical | How To / Re: Rear end oil for People 200S
« on: May 17, 2013, 03:04:04 AM »
Thanks Cal. I am pretty sure they are the same. That is what I added and I took it for a shake down ride...all is well so far. LOL I still can't understand why the manual say to fill to the oil level is at the bottom of the fill hole.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Technical | How To / Rear end oil for People 200S
« on: May 16, 2013, 08:12:19 PM »
I am servicing my 200S for the first time. The manual says to add oil until it is flush with the bottom of the fill hole. When I took the bolt out of the fill hole I could not see any oil. Since I was going to change the oil I didn't add any. When I drained the oil I got 150 ml. The markings on the scooter say fill with .18 liter. I added .18 liter or 180 ml back to the oil reservoir. I could not see the oil level, so I added more oil...still no overflow at the fill hole. After I had added oil several time without getting an overflow at the fill hole I figured something was wrong. I drained the oil I had added back out of the rear end and I had 400 ml. So, which is correct, .18 liter or fill til the oil is level with the bottom of the fill hole? Thanks in advance for your help. My local dealer says .18 liter but he didn't sound like he was sure. LOL
Thanks,
Steve

People s200 / Valve adjustment on 2009 People 200S
« on: May 16, 2013, 04:00:24 PM »
I have a "new" '09 People 200S that is about ready for its first service. It has just over 300 miles. In just 300 miles my wife has outgrown this scooter and has already purchased a "new" 09 Exciting 500i. Since I am going to be selling the 200S I want to do a complete service on it. What panels have to be removed to inspect the valve adjustment? I don't want to remove any more than is absolutely necessary. Is there a video available anywhere that shows this procedure?
Thanks,
Steve

People s200 / Re: Windscreen - anyone tried this one .
« on: May 16, 2013, 03:43:47 PM »
I stumbled across this site too. I ordered one immediately and it was here in a few days. It is a great windscreen. It is very easy to install and looks great. My wife is the primary rider and she is 5'4" tall. She says it does a great job of protecting her and keeping her warm in cooler weather. You won't be disappointed if you get one.

JWTR, Thanks for the info. If I remember correctly the Gerbing's jacket I have draws 77 watts. I am not sure if it draws the full 77 watts if the thermostat (rheostat) is on a lower setting. Any ideas on where to get a battery monitor like you are talking about?
Thanks,
Steve

JWTR, Did you ever find out how much wattage you could add to the load on your scooter? I just purchased a new '09 Xciting 500ri and am wondering the same thing. Thinking of adding an autocom for bike to bike com and maybe a hook up for a Gerbing's jacket.
Thanks,
Steve in GA
