Xciting 700i / Finally got a package in the mail today
« on: May 22, 2017, 10:57:11 PM »
I've been wanting a pair of these since I got the MyRoad. Contacted a seller on eBay who sells a lot of Kymco stuff out of Taiwan and he was able to get me a set. Here in the US they are just dummy housings as the turn signal lights are on the mirrors. I already added wiring for them when I was doing my LED reflector swap. http://www.kymcoforum.com/index.php?topic=24319.0 Now I just need to get them installed on the scoot.

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / My Atlantic 500
« on: April 24, 2017, 11:10:17 PM »
I finally got around to taking some decent photos of the new to me Atlantic 500 I bought last month. It's a 2003 Coast Cyan (sometimes called Coast Blue) color with just under 5,000 miles on it. Looking forward to getting my Dr Pulley sliders and replacing a few left side panels that a previous owner damaged apparently having dropped it on the left side.

Technical | How To / Replacing Reflectors with LED ones
« on: April 22, 2017, 01:06:30 AM »
I posted this in the 700 forum but I'm posting it here also as this can be done to any scoot for better visibility especially at night. I've done this upgrade on my Burgman 650 before so here it is on the MyRoad 700i. There are some better ones available now for less money I used here. I have replaced all the reflectors with 2 way LED lighted ones, most recently from eBay. They are all wired to light when the bike is turned on, each of the side lights flash brighter with the respective turn signal, and the rear one lights brighter with the brake lights. This will be a standard install from now on for all my scoots.

Here's a video link on how they work, might not be as visible during the day but great at night.

On my Burgman 650  I also added this really cool lighted license plate frame from Radiantz. I got the black one with amber turns. It has LED's for the license plate (white) and I added a resistor and two diodes so the brake light also works as a running light. I will added it to the MyRoad and my other bikes as I can afford but I put in the wiring for it while I was in there.

Xciting 700i / LED Reflector Install
« on: April 18, 2017, 07:16:56 PM »
I've done this upgrade on my Burgman 650 before and liked it so here it is on the MyRoad 700i. There are some better ones available now for less money I used here. I have replaced all the reflectors with 2 way LED lighted ones, most recently from eBay. These are wired to light when the bike is turned on, the side lights flash brighter with the turn signal, and the rear lights brighter with the brake lights.

I have now learned just how to take off more of the MyRoad's bodywork on this project and some things aren't well thought out assembly wise. Example to get the lower handle bar cover off one has to remove the throttle cables because they run through it. A couple of issues first with taking off the right switch gear to get at the throttle cables. Kymco apparently puts all this over the bar and on the bike. Removing the top cover isn't as simple as my Burgman. Remove two screws underneath and you can get the top up a little but because the wires for the hazard switch run in front of the bar and the run/stop switch behind the bar you have to get in there with a screwdriver and take out one screw to take the hazard switch out before having enough access to get at the throttle cables. Next the throttle cable adjustment isn't enough to get the cables out and back in requiring body panels be removed to get at the throttle body end. Then the forward most throttle cable threads directly into the lower plastic body switch gear. To get that out would require removing the throttle cable completely or the switch gear wiring so you could spin one off the other. They really need a lessen from the Japanese here is construction (The Burgman is logical and easy).

General Discussion / You guys would have been drooling.
« on: April 02, 2017, 10:45:20 PM »
I got an invite for a group ride this morning from Bert's Mega Mall (where I bought the MyRoad) so I went up. Quite the assortment of bikes, Ducati sport and adventure, more sport, old school, Victory, Slingshot, Spyder, a Honda NM4, a BMW K1600, only two scoots (me on the MyRoad and a guy on a Majesty excluding the NM4 with the dual clutch is kinda like a scooter), all in total at least 40 bikes maybe. It was a nice ride up Azuza Canyon to Crystal Lake (I didn't go to see Jason) and came back to the store. This place is huge and they carry lots of bikes including Kymcos which I counted a Xciting 500i ABS, two Downtown 300i's, two People GT 300i's, four Like 200i's, three Super 8's, two Agility 125's, two Compagno 110i's, and six K-Pipe's. Dang I should have taken some photos.

Xciting 700i / Decals Removed
« on: April 02, 2017, 03:07:09 AM »
Since I bought the bike I wanted to simplify the look of the bike by removing unwanted decals and relocating the other decals (yes the noise emissions label was a b***h and didn't come off in one piece). I removed the two from the windscreen, removed the KYMCO decals from the sides of the bike, and relocated the others under the seat. It looks less busy or rolling billboardish. Now it just has the clean lines and if someone doesn't recognize the logo they will have to ask who makes er made it.  8)

Xciting 700i / Upgrading some lights
« on: March 28, 2017, 04:47:53 AM »
So while I was working on the bike I decided to change out a few lights. I really like the Sylvania SilverStar Ultra line of headlight bulbs on my other bikes so I decided to swap out the stock H7 bulbs (2 low, 1 high) with them and while I was at it I didn't much like the clear lower running light bulbs in the headlamp housing so I swapped them out for some 168NA amber ones. I'm very pleased with the look now. BTW if your looking for a deal on the SilverStar Ultra bulbs they are at Walmart but check the online price and get them to match it in the store, it saved me over $25 on a twin pack ($45+ in store and i caught them for about $18 online at Walmart).

Stock yellowish bulb

SilverStar Ultra bulb much whiter.

Front running lights.

Much nicer I think.

Xciting 700i / 4,000 mile service
« on: March 28, 2017, 04:18:34 AM »
The oil service light came on just before 4,000 miles, time for the 4K service. Time to change the engine oil, filter, clean the crankcase vent, check the air filter, and check the clutch pad wear.

Changing the oil.

This is the first time the owners manual calls for cleaning the crankcase vent tube. Looks like it should have been sooner, look at the gunk that came out pulling the plug.

Look at what you have to take apart to check/change the air filter. It still looks like I'll get more miles out of this one. They are oiled so you can't just blow it out. I found the air filter cover seal out of place and put it back in.

Next up pulling the CVT covers, clutch bell and checking the clutch pad thickness, looks good. Looks it's dry in the CVT, the dealer finally fixed my oil leak that was getting in the CVT case.

Don't lose the alignment sleeves.

My homemade clutch holder tool.

So yesterday I get off work and decide to head home via Coast Highway. About halfway home I pass a guy on a red Vespa and don't think too much of it until he pulls up next to me at the traffic light. He's got a a crate tied down on the back rack open top with a Yorkie in it. The dog has a half helmet with red/white stars on it and is wearing blue framed sunglasses. :)

Xciting 700i / Shocks Stopped Adjusting
« on: June 28, 2016, 11:36:50 PM »
Well went out to ride home last night started the bike up and the shocks were in the H (Hard/Firm) setting, funny I keep them in S most of the time. I get riding down the road a bit, push the button once, it shows in M, push the button again and M starts flashing but no shifting into S. I get home, try again, same result but with the bike off/key on I can here a buzzing noise from the back. Seems like a rear shock actuator has died now whether or not the shock is bad also I'm not quite sure. I think I'll try to isolate which one it is and remove the actuator to see if I can manually adjust it or not. Then once I figure it out off to the dealer so they can order the part. :)

Last night after work I decided to take Coast Highway up through Corona Del Mar over Balboa Island across on the ferry to the Balboa Peninsula and back home. Nice evening and only stopped for a few photos. Sorry about the camera visible in the rear view mirror.
