I just did a major fuel system repair to my wife's 06 GV 250 - same motor, slightly smaller carb. I did the filter, pump and carb. Just my opinion here but it probably isn't the fuel filter - as I replaced mine with a similar basic universal filter from the auto parts store and it works fine. If you notice, while its idling, the fuel filter is only about half full of gas - meaning its never completely full or starving for fuel. It probably isn't the fuel pump as well. When mine died (fuel pump) it would supply enough gas to start and idle for a few seconds, then it would die shortly after that. Just pull the fuel line off the carb and try and start it - fuel should flow out easily. (be careful when you do this as fuel spilling on a hot exhaust is BAD...From what you've said - yours will start and idle fine until you give it gas, then it falls on its face so to speak.. The old carb didn't do this. so if you eliminate the new carb as being bad  - since its NOS - it has to be the installation. My Honda ruckus did the same thing... I replaced the carb, didn't tighten the air boot screw super tight and it did the same thing as yours... started up but died instantly when given any gas. Too much air coming in kills it instantly. You seriously have to tighten those two screws tighter than you would think - to make sure you have a good seal. You're almost there bud.

Hey Dan. Carb was definitely new - bought it myself.. Sounds to me like your getting like too much air. Tighten the crap out of the manifold screw and the air filter boot screw. auto choke shouldn't necessarily engage in warmer weather. fuel filter is fine. my 2 c. good luck.

This black plastic parts are still good. Its the body panels and fender and cowl that are faded. Looks silver in the pix. Fade is beyond repair except for replace or repaint. All good. May paint the front fender black or just leave it alone. Love the big feel and smooth ride. 50 miles so far on the new tires. Trickle charger keeps things ready to fire.

Grandvista 250 / Re: Grandvista 250 stalling on idle

I agree. A new, sealed in a plastic bag, KYMCO carb is the quickest and cheapest fix. Comes preset from factory (air/fuel etc). Its like giving your GV a heart transplant. I had to do it on my 06 GV 250. I bought it used with 3100 miles. Ran ok then as soon as I got it home, the Fuel pump died on me, then after new fuel pump install the carb would dump fuel. New carb with auto by-starter is $299 from kymco parts monster. Easy install. Now purrs like a kitten.

Xciting 500 / New XC500i
« on: January 01, 2017, 06:44:10 PM »
Hello all. Its been a few years since I posted. Last time I was here I had just bought a nice 05 Super 9 (orange). Has a few since, agility 125, b&w 250 (sold to scooter Dan), gv 250 and now my biggest Kymco yet.. 2009 Xciting 500 I. Got t for $2500 with 400 miles on it. It was never sold or titled. Came with full factory warranty by a new Kymco dealer in town. Put some new Michelin Tires on. Really liking it so far. Super solid and heavy - which to me are good things as they equal stability on the road. It has some serious fading of the red plastic but I don't mind. (That's why I got it for so cheap.) It kinda has a cool patina to it. Plan on commuting with it to our new office later in 2017.

General Discussion / Re: Cheng Shin Tyres ???
« on: October 04, 2009, 01:52:47 PM »
Yes. The Cheng Shins will run forever. Thats not the issue. They are a bad tire. The profile is not a round profile, they have raised center and a sever slope down to the sides. If you never turn sharp or lean the scoot over in turns youll never notice the bad angle. But if you ride aggressivley, the difference between ths CS's and some new good rubber is like night and day. Cornering is improved, overall stickiness is improved. Softer compound is much safer in wet weather IMO.  $150 installed is not bad at all (try having a Honda dealer install some tires for you! Ouch! Very expensive. daws.
