Title: ?'s on the Xciting 250
Post by: Scoota on June 24, 2012, 02:22:55 PM
Looking at possibly getting an Xciting 250, haven't had a chance to ride one yet (hopefully soon) to see how it goes.

My primary use for it will be commuting to and from work and have a short stretch of highway that I normally take that is posted 65mph, how will the 250 do at that speed?

Wouldn't mind a 500 but those are priced a little more than I'd like to go.

Well, so much for getting a Xciting 250...found a Xciting 500i with ABS for a decent price today and pulled the trigger on it.   ;D

Good Choice.  Have around 9,000 miles on my 250.  Depending on your weight,
65 mph,  I find is about the max.   Usually in the red on the tach.  Don't get me wrong,
I've had it 60-65 on the road for extended periods with no issues,  but the 250 is sufficient for me.
High speeds probably 20-25% of the time.   Only time I've hit the interstate is when  it's 60 or below.

I too find 65 to be max speed without getting over 7500 rpm on the 250.  I did ride on I 164 north of evansville for about 12 miles at 70 mph.  Clearly in the red line at about 8000.   I will probably not ever do that again, as I don't want to risk engine harm.  It rode great, but the engine revs were just too high.  I will just take the 60 and 55 mph state highways.

Mine is super happy between 55 and 63-4 mph.  Above that number less happy. 2007 250 xciting orange.

I have a 2006 Xciting 250.  I have about 17,000 miles on it with about 50% freeway in the central valley, California.  I have pushed it pretty hard, above red line for up to 150 miles.  That is probably one of the reasons I broke a drive belt.  Now, I keep it around 7000-7500rpm and 60-65 mph tops.  Eventually, I would like to get into a 500.  I would like to stay up with 70-75mph traffic instead of seeing the tail end of Mayflower Moving and Storage.  Overall, I am pretty happy with the 250.

I have an 09' 250 and like others find that 65 mph is about tops.  I've had it above that up to 70 but it wasn't too happy with afterwards.  50-60 mph and she cruses like a dream.
