K&n air filter
« on: October 10, 2010, 10:05:31 PM »
Hi, I know some of you run k&n  air filters for your kymco's, when I searched the  k&n site they showed nothing for the ppl 50. any sugesstions? Thanks. Also, are they just better for longevity, or do they filter  junk better than the stock cheapo foam filter?

I bought my 2004 people 50 a few weeks ago from a local fella.  He said he was the second owner and had it for about 4 years and never did anything to it except replace the battery last year.  I test rode it and it runs great, only had 1,500 kilometers on it since new so I bought it.  We agreed on $450 and I loaded it up and took it home.  First thing I did when I got home was pull the spark plug and opened up the air filter housing.  To my surprise it was missing the factory air filter element and had this in it's place.

Needless to say I had my local kymco dealer order me up a new genuine filter element for it.  Runs like the dickens now.  I've since derestricted it and have recorded with my GPS 47.9 miles an hour.  Personally I think the factory foam air filter is more than enough for these little scoots.  I was impressed it's actually comprised of two different density foam materials sandwiched together to form the element.  For some reason, somewhere down the line before I owned it somebody decided to toss away the re-usable foam element and substitute it with a tube sock.   ???

Oh gawd! that's hillarious(and so wrong) ! But, hey what a STEAL for that bike! I bought a 2003
people 3 weeks ago with 1600k on odo, and for $900 I thought I made out like a bandit, cause it is so clean it looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. You did VERY well on that transaction.

The k/n will improve the air flo alot . You will have to upjet and run an after market pipe to match the intake.
Kymco peoples too many ;) I'm not an expert just a full time hobbiest.

..there's no substitute for a K&N...

..they're just so much better than less expensive copies...
