New Kymco Super 8 150cc Pics
« on: November 10, 2012, 12:50:19 AM »
Well....I'm down in Florida visiting my parents for 9 days. Took delivery of my Super 8 150 in Red/Black/White. Great little scooter for the money. Not broken-in yet (I'm @ 130 miles) Changed the oil @ 100 miles (using Shell Rotella 15W-40W mineral oil (for now) I'll change the gear oil & engine oil again @ 300 miles before I leave. Gear oil...I'm using Mobil Oil Synthetic 75W-90W after 300 miles. I'm shocked I found such a soild price ($10.99) @ Auto Zone of all places.

One thing I would like to mention, is that my scoot kind of bogs down from 5-20MPH a tad. I suspect this is because my engine isn't close to being broken-in yet. It feels like it's straving for fuel, then it normal after 20MPH. The fit & finish is decent, but not on par with my Taiwanese built GT300i. Example: On the side body panel where the White & Red colors meet, there is a decent amount of red paint on the white. The dealer ordered me a new panel with the decals. No real biggie.

For the money I paid, it's a nice choice overall. Can't wait until after 500 miles or so, when she is really broken-in. Aside from the Mirror extenders, Battery Tender Jr. pigtail & the Shad 33-liter case which requires the Kymco SKU# K0SP59ST (Shad Top Box Mount Kit) I'll be keeping it all stock. I also noticed that Kymco is now using CST tires vs. the Cheng-Shin brand. The are just ok, your standard budget hard nylon Chinese tire. I will upgrade down the road.

UPDATE: I'm back home now in New England (sigh...) Anyway, I noticed that as the engine has broke-in, the issue I was having with it bogging-down has started to go away. I left with 430 miles on the Super 8. Will be back down in Feburary.

Ha.....Too funny. No just my Airvent seat cushion (they are out of business now) Kymco's makes one very hard seat. This just takes the edge off.

I think it looks bigger in the picture then in person myself. It's a Shad 33 liter. The Kymco dealer told me don't go bigger then the 33 liter as it will look too oversized. The nice touch is she ordered it thru Kymco (not Shad direct) & it comes with the backrest standard (usually it's an opition)

Vivo: Thanks on the Airvent. Too bad they went under because that seat cushion was only $35.00 brand new.

Quick question for you as I know you own a Super 8 in the Philippines. The more I look @ the Super 8 it kind of reminds me of a bigger Yamaha Zuma in some sort of way. Thoughts? Or is it just me.

I have a 20011 Super 8 and my rear lights are yellow. I wonder why they changed to white?  Nice scoot though...I love mine!

Old Geezer: Looks like you have the optional Shad Red color plate (Nice touch) Also...I don't know why, but as you can see by my pics....the back of my Shad case reflector is white instead of your red. I don't care for the white as much. I think I'll try & find those red plate covers online.

Longanhes: I noticed that as well on the yellow front & tail turn-signals going to white. Again....I would have perfered yellow myself. My bet is it's a cost cutting measure.

Vivo: Good match! I sat on a Yamaha Zuma @ my local dealer & it's simply too small for my frame. The Super 8 is just enough for me @ 6' 230 lbs.

The white reflector is normally sold in Europe. You don't see them much in the states. But there is a part # for red and a part # for white in each Shad model. I haven't seen where you can get shad parts on line if you find one let us know. I have a friend who is lookind for a reflector.

You can't even get Shad replacement keys. You have to buy a key and lock set and change it out. Its $25.00 from Shad.

I have a Shad SH 40 cargo on my 250.
