Gilera GP800 Performance

From another topic, I decided to open this..

I have spent many many years at the dragstrip racing and watching cars, motorcycles, scooters, 4 wheelers race down the 1/8 and 1/4 mile dragstrip.
A scooter is in a class of its own when it comes to performance.
Todays sportbikes stock off the showroom floor are running in the 1/8 mile under 6.8 seconds and reaching speeds of 117MPH Do the math, its not long before they hitting 60MPH.

Another member posted that the Gilera GP800 will give a motorcycle a run for its money.
The Gilera GP800 is the fastest OEM scooter produced so far.
This is not your typical scooter!

Here are the numbers

Torque @ RPM:   56 lbs/ft@ 5750 RPM
Displacement:   839.3 Cc
Curb Weight:   540 lbs lbs.
0-60 time:   5.7 sec sec.

I will list the cruiser bikes first.
Triumph Rocket = 0-60 mph: 3.54 sec Big Cruiser Big.
Harley Davidson VROD = 4.26
Honda VTX1800 = 4.45
Kawasaki Vulcan = 4.98
Suzuki Blvd M9 = 3.89

Sports Cars
Nissan 370Z 4.9
Camaro SS 4.6
Mustang GT 4.8
Mustang V6 5.3
Cadilac CTS Coupe 6.8

So there ya have it! Think twice before you peddle up on your scoot next to anything besides a 1968 Volkswagon Bug, or you may get lucky and race against someone that doesn't realize you are racing them.




These numbers are fantastic and will run with most of todays sports cars with the 0-60 times. Unfortuntelty it will not beat todays motorcycle stop light to stop light with a rider that KNOWS how to ride.

A standard street legal bike is much faster than a MotoGP prototype bike (2.5s)!? >10% difference is nearly unbelievable.
Who, where and when? How did the rider avoid the wheelie?

Of course scooters can't _race_ with superbikes.
But their performance is so easy to release, that a non-professional driver in the real world (commuting, touring) won't miss much perfomance on a scooter. Most do only think, they would miss peformance. But they can't make full use of their own (super sport) bike.

Gilera GP800 is  the best bike as compare to other bikes which is prevailing in the market. It is one of the best bike for its looks and power pack performance, The price of this bike is very affordable to every middle class People.

I want to buy a stylish and superb speed bike, but i don't have full knowledge about these bikes and their performance. No issue with money, but i want the best bike, so any any suggest which bike is good in this market, thanks in advance.

My wife's old Gilera Runner FXR 180 would hit 100kph in under 7 seconds. It topped out at only 115kph though.

Well most people just want to get from point A to point B and be able to outrun the traffic.
So the question is, is it faster than a Yugo?

My Super 8 can outrun any Superbike on the busy Philippine streets any day....

2002 Kymco B&W 300; MRP 78MM "300CC", Naraku cam, Yoshimura rS3 exhaust, 17g Sliders, Yellow torque spring drilled airbox, stock carb #115 main #40 pj.

IMHO I don't think they are built very logically. High failure of components and my main beef is how they refuse to build bikes with maintenance in mind. Just my opinion, we used to sell piaggio as well as vespa and I did almost all warranty claims for them and Kymco and had to do many more for the Italians.

Have watched a lot of Vespa servicing videos - must agree that IF you have to service a Vespa it is quite a process. Service intervals seem pretty long though. The Italians are famous for a lot of things - logical anything ain't one of them! Some think that is part of their charm.
Also, watched a guy spend a very long time taking 80% of his Honda PCX 125 (or somesuch) apart to get at the valve adjusting. He said it was no big deal. If you really like something - you do not care if she is high maintenance!!
I am very pleased with how easy my LIKE is to service so far....though do wish they'd stop burying the brake reservoirs...there is no need for that! Cut a square in the plastic and put a nice alloy lid on the thing - badda/bing, look like a Ducati!!
Still, would love to have a Vespa! (and the back account to keep it serviced)
