How do I derestrict a 2017 Kymco Super 8 50 2T?
« on: May 18, 2018, 11:05:08 PM »
I got this scooter a month ago and damn it is slow! Top speed on flat road is 42km/h. I have been searching around the internet for how I make this thing go faster, but with no luck. How do I derestrict it?

Search this forum for the word derestrict and you'll find what you need.  I think on a 2017 all you need to change is the variator boss. The CDI should already be good.

With the boss changed, you should be able to go around 40 mph.

I just bought a 2016 Super 8 50x 4 stroke.  The restrictions on my year model scooter were the CDI, main Jet, clutch spacer (variator boss) and pilot jet.  I'm still dealing with the CDI, but I'm close to getting it completely done.  Top speed right now without a derestricted CDI and everything else derestrcited is 33mph - using GPS.  My sppedo is about 3 MPH high, typical of most Chinese Scooters I hear.

So I need to replace this piece with an unrestricted piece? https://imgur.com/a/efCM0rO

Replacing the shouldered boss should get you 35 MPH. Up-jetting 85-90, removing the snorkel from airbox, and cutting and welding the blind pipe of the exhaust, plus 8 gm Dr Pulley Sliders should get you 40+ MPH on a hot non-windy day on a flat Road with smooth surface but real nice acceleration in all conditions. Maybe also a stiffer torque spring like a purple malossi.

You may also want to expose the air screw and get a D shaped socked or cut a screwdriver slot in it.

Anything more than that would require new chambered exhaust with maybe bigger carb and maybe open air filter and more expertise than I can contribute.

I did what you said, and it worked! Now the top speed is around 60 kmt / 37 mph. Thank you so much!

Per your recommendation I'm ordering the D-socket.  My carb has been cleaned numerous times but I've never removed or adjusted the air screw (I thought it was a plug).  What changes can I expect by removing the air screw, cleaning if necessary and adjusting the screw?

Mainly some low idle fine tunning of the carb they may help with idling and acceleration from low speed.. This is an air screw. I don't think it affects full throttle air mixture but I could be wrong.

My 2t runs great when it starts.  If I run it every day it starts and runs fine.  If I let it sit for 1 day or more it's very difficult to start.

I need to do the same. Are you able to let me know what parts you got and where you got them from?
