Bobsled helmets
« on: February 18, 2018, 09:15:30 PM »
Okay, dumb question. I was watching the bobsled event for the Winter Olympics, and it dawned on me were the bobsleders wearing motocycle helmets (maybe modded for their sport), or helmets specifically for bobsledding?

Anyone know enough about helmets to know?

Did a quick google check and the US team in 2014 were using light weight motorcycle helmets.

Found a shop that sells Bobsled helmets but they are motorcycle helmets as well and not sure if they have had any modifications done to suit bobsledding.

Thanks for the research. Can't believe how much they're charging for the 'official' bobsled helmets. I'd definitely go with the lightweight MC helmets and leave it at that.

Thanks again,

Early days....we used Mom's pasta colander stuffed with 7/11 bags for our sledding in Mass.
First mods --- cut the handle off with Dad's steak knife.
(then turn yourself in to Child Protection Serv.)

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.
