16 270 mxu is a pos!
« on: January 21, 2018, 02:48:18 AM »
Bought this new last week and traded in my kids 16 arctic cat 90 because it was too small and slow to keep up with us riding. Well this pos 270 won't go over 15mph with or without the screw. I took cvt cover apart and it has 1 thick spacer and 1 think spacer but the main part that the spacer slides on to Has like a spacer at the end of it already. It's not like the arctic cat spacer idk I'm seriously pissed that 90 went 30mph and this worthless pos can't do 15. What do I take off or do to fix this damn thing nothing on Google tells you anything and the pos manual says unscrew throttle to go faster ya that's just gonna make it blow up. Should of know better. Thanks

Whoa!  Why go right to calling it POS?  It is operating exactly as designed with variator spacer installed.  Remove outer collar.  Many vids on this, maybe just not for your specific quad.  With collar off and screw threaded out you should top out at 38 mph.  My dealer had it removed from the get go for this very reason.  If you are not sure, ask a dealer.

Should have known better? Kymco made the Arctic Cat 90 you traded in. Any spacer limiting the top speed will be keeping the two sheaves from coming together. Your 90 had to have been derestricted to run 30.

The 2016 MXU or Mongoose 270's have an age 14 restriction. They are restricted to be able to qualify for use for 14 year old and up.
There is a bulletin put out by Kymco USA that instructs you on how to "De-Restrict" the unit properly.
But, this de-restrict does not allow you to fully unscrew the throttle stop.
If you have unscrewed the throttle stop and it is restricted or De-restricted per the bulletin, the unit will over rev, overheat and eventually smoke the motor.
My recommendation is to order a variator shaft from a 2012 MXU or Mongoose 300 and install it.
Then you can run the bike with the throttle stop al the way out if you like. It will then run just like a MXU or Mongoose 300.
Have fun.

The whole point of me buying this 270 is so my kid can keep up with us when riding. Tell me how a 90cc goes 30mph and 3 times the cc only goes 32?! You guys wouldn't be pissed off that u just wasted another 3500? Dealer I got it from is a idiot and has no idea how to derestrict it. So I bought a boss face drive from a 15 mxu 300. This looks like a piston pin the one that was in it had a spacer welded at the end and 2 rings 1 thicker 1 skinny. I was told by the dealer to removed the old boss face drive and to put the new one in. Now sometime it makes a rattling noise when driving it kinda like a rod knock everything is tight and I'm not a retard I know how to take things apart and put together but it just dosent seem right. There is no videos online on these atvs and if u try to call someone for help they won't help you and say u gotta take to a dealer blah blah blah well the only dealer is 2 hours away and they don't repair them! I didnt pay 3500 for a lousy 8mph its pathetic a 300cc should go 50mph. Is there something else I need besides the boss face drive? Anyway I could get correct part numbers on what needs to be done? Thanks

Here's pics of stock boss face drive with 2 rings and welded end. The new one from a 15 mxu 300 is same thing without welded end but when u put new one on its shorter by 1/4in so it squeezes belt tight between cvt I don't think that's right..

I would place a couple of calls to Kymco dealer service/parts depts regarding modifying your specific model. If it is a popular model -- buggy/ 4 wheel shops may also be of help.

The correct drive boss you need is PN: 22105-LBA7-900
If you have something different it is not correct.
I suggest you invest in a service manual

That is exactly the part I ordered. So u just take out old one slide that one is and tighten back down? That's exactly what I did. Still only goes 32mph.
