MXU 150 eating drive belts

Hi thanks for letting me join, I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I have a MXU 150 that is eating drive belts and just shredding them to bits after a day or so...

Any clues what may be causing this please? I have stripped it and only thing I can see is that variator weights are rounded off on one side... would that cause it or does that just mean acceleration would be a problem????

How many belts have been consumed? Are you using aftermarket belts?

I too suspect cheap aftermarket belts. If the rollers are too badly worn, could be causing the MXU "upshift" too quickly causing even more stress on a cheap belt. (If the belt is an after-market)

Yes it's cheap belts, about £4 or £5 each I think

You have taken "cheap belts" to a whole new level. Had no idea anyone made any CVT drive belt that cheap. Sure your not using a fan belt for a car?  Get a known name brand belt designed for the 150 and you will most likely be fine. I would also look a new set of roller weights while your at it. No need to dig in to change a belt and leave flat spotted rollers in place.

Thats the problem Lee! Get a Kymco OEM belt and your problem should be solved. I have found that getting Kymco parts saves money in the long run, and a lot of frustration. Good luck and let us know if you get things sorted out.

While you are at it, MAKE SURE you get the right belt in the Kymco bag! The critical dimensions of length, width and angle are, well, critical! Must be exact. What I am trying to say is Kymco has been known to get the wrong belt in the right bag!
