What does this do for my scoot - Exhaust

What does the small lower crimped off pipe do for my scoot exhaust? I have a Kymco Super 8 50 2t. Not sure, just want to know.

A couple of different theories on that. Most likely, EPA regulations required more volume in the exhaust chamber and Kymco had to make last minute changes. My people had the same stupid stock exhaust. Not sure if the super 8 is the same but my people had another tube coming off the exhaust closer to the cylinder. My guess is it was some kind of exhaust gas recirculation system. Which is one of the worst things ever thought of in automotive history. Lets pump dirty exhaust back into the engine to save a few hydrocarbons. I suggest upgrading to a performance pipe.

It is certain your exhaust is very restricted. Best solution is a performance pipe upgrade.

These stock pipes are EVIL! Indeed, the best solution is an aftermarket.
The smaller pipe near the cylinder is affixed to the 'secondary air cleaner' which 'pulls' 'fresh' air in to assist the catalytic activity of this restricted hunk of metal.
Absolutely a sad attempt to appease EPA regs.
I had one on my Like, made a poor attempt at derestricting it and burned up a piston. It is best to replace it completely. When you do, the secondary air cleaner becomes moot and can be removed, lessening the weight of the scooter by a few ounces (and an aftermarket exhaust is likely to be lighter than stock, too).

That is what is commonly known as a blind pipe, and is a restriction to decrease power. When the 2-stroke engine have both intake and exhaust at the same time, the engine is being "short circuted", and unburnt fuel are thrown directly out in the exhaust pipe. The initial pressure wave from the exhaust will hit the zig-zag inside the silencer, the catalysator, the bend or the narrow end of the expansion chamber (depending on the style of our exhaust) and will throw a pressure wave back towards the engine, which presses some of the unburned fuel back into the engine.
As you can imagine, an exhaust for a 2-stroke must be calibrated in size, length, bends and backpressure to the size of the engine and to the rpm, where the most tourque is wanted. :p

The initial exhaust that goes into the blind pipe then creates a pressure wave that comes at a bad time, and ruins the other pressure wave, so the unburnt fuel is not thrown back into the pipe.

As you can imagine, this is very bad for the enviroment (given that you do not increase rpm after removing this pipe) and it also reduces torque dramatically. Cut it off, weld a plate over the hole and weld the thing back on, so the police wont notice that it's missing. ;)

This is also why you need another exhaust, when you change cylinder.

Hi Guys,

When removing the stock exhaust on a Kymco Super 8 50cc 2T what is best practise with dealing with the leftover secondary air inlet valve system that is part of the stock exhaust..?

I am fitting a LeoVince TT exhaust, appreciate any advice. Cheers.

All my scoots are maxi ones and I haven't worked on smaller ones at all. I'm not sure what the setup looks like or if it's similar to the PAIR system on my Suzukis.
