Others. The pink road.
« on: July 28, 2017, 12:50:04 AM »
90 miles on the helix today (Others) looking for opportunity out the back road.
Hot and dry !

I did know I was headed into an area that had burned a week ago...
Even then, it was a real surprise when the gray asphalt turned pink before me !  Really weird !
The borate bombers have a lot of colorant in the loads they drop.  It stays a while before blending in...

lol

Actually, it was my chosen destination...  My intent was to see if there might be opportunity for us .

Reality sets in when you get a 1st person, hands on view of a calamity.  It was grim.

I dunno...  Perhaps I should pursue contact with the owners of the property to see if they would hire someone to manage recovery and a major rebuild...  Didn't seem like the time, though.  I'd expect they are still in shock.

Burned out areas are always so shocking in how desolate they are and how complete the destruction can be in a fast moving fire. So sad...

Man !
A 3 engine full sized jet. That can't be a cheap way to prevent fires.

And on the flip side while traveling through burnt areas can have a feeling of passing through a cemetery as soon as the old or new plants start growing back it's seeing a rebirth which is amazing.

It's a DC-10 privately owned and leased out to various agencies for fire fighting. California uses it regularly. http://www.10tanker.com/the-plane.html

Saw the result of a massive fire in the Southern Cascades in the Williamette National Forest near Sister's Oregon a few weeks ago.

Agreed, yet there is a flip side...
There will be quite a bit more runoff in the rainy season...  and there is a bit of placer gold in the area...  alluvial deposits will probably get a bigger than usual shuffle and there could be more found by the hobby miners panning in some of the creeks next spring.
