I have the OEM CDI from mine that has the disconnect wire at the bottom. I upgraded to a Naraku DC CDI NK390.04 that claims better performance then just disconnecting the stock wire. I just mainly like to update and follow a maintenance schedule and have spare parts rather then wait for something to break. I have an Airsal 73.8cc cylinder kit on the way and after 12 years of service dont think i will use my old cylinder and piston set anymore either. 12 years, almost 13, Its just F'ing time for a rebuild to show these new bikes they aint going nowhere ;D If i were you I would start rebuilding all the performance parts and study hard as hell for each component and purchase and always ALWAYS ALWAYS shop using the "part number". Yea these bikes are pretty bullet proof right out of the factory, built for economy with all the restrictions one could possibly add to an engine except for the Drive Boss under the variator for economy, but 13 years man? You have the choice to either stay with fuel economy OEM but replace it all which costs about the same, or you can lightly modify for economy and reliability, or you can go into racing parts.

Fuel economy: new 50cc cylinder kit, 19mm PHGB or PWK carburetor, new Technigas Next-R exhuast pipe

Fuel economy sport: New "cast Iron" 70cc malossi cylinder, 19mm Carb, Techigas RS-II Exhaust pipe

Racing: New Airsal 73.8cc Aluminum cylinder, Intake spacer conversion-minerelli with MHR 30mm intake, 24-30mm Carb, Custom exhaust (they really dont have much for the S9 over 10.5HP) I'd remove the water pump and get a 12v one, inner rotor ignition for advanced or retarded timing over 10k, new shocks front and back with reservoirs to not just be a spring to bounce on. theres alot more but, you can get the hint, and you can read everyone else's builds and mistakes.

A kymco super 9 lc has its limitations, the AC is worse, but to compete with Honda Dio's and Minerelli Engines you are going to need a good tuning and porting specialist.

2005 Super 9 LC - Airsal (T6) 73.8cc BBK
Battery: Chromes-Pro I-gel w/ self tester & LCD
Stator:(soon) Artek K2 rotor w/light

Carb: 19mm PHGB (soon)Yoshimura 24
Air filter: Malossi E5 chrome
Variator: Malossi - Clutch: Malossi MHR Delta
Exhaust: technigas Next-R
