Stig's Traditional Christmas eve ride
« on: December 25, 2016, 02:34:32 AM »
The Good Lord has let me get in this Christmas eve ride for a couple of years.
Damp, chilly, greasy Ohio roads - but I'll take it!

Thanks, Stig! That Burg has a heater and windscreen de-fogger, doesn't it?

Hey Karl,
You know, Mrs. Stig asked if I get cold on such rides....35 > 50mph on farming roads.
I am absolutely snug as a bug when dressed so that no wind can touch skin anywhere, except  cheeks  and eyes. (even on the coldest days, 5°F, I keep the visor cracked for venting and anti-fogging)
Boots, FrogTogg rain pants over kevlar jeans, hi-viz rainproof jacket over ICON armored jacket, tigh fitting jacket cuffs and leather gauntlets over heated gloves, neck scarf over balaclava.....and I am sealed up. Add ear pluggs and I  can even ride the interstate for as long as the glove batteries last. Have never find that point as I keep them recharged.
That highway workers insulated hi viz rain/wind over-jacket is so much better than all of the former layering I  had to do....and keeps me warmer.
Like the astronauts ---- you'll want to take care of "business" before you  climb into all this gear !
Happy Christmas to you & family......calm before the storm, here.

Cool beans Tom. Thought about a pair of those battery operated gloves too. Where did you get yours, how long do they heat and are you happy with them?

Dan, my $170 gloves are on sale for $99 right now.
"GERBING Core Heat 7 Volt glove liners" from www.thewarmingstore.com
Mine are 2+ yrs old. Work well to keep hands comfortable down into the teens at 65mph....even colder at 35mph set on med. of 3 heating ranges. Last for hours.
I wear them under leather Olympia Wind-Tex gloves.
Pros: self contained...no wiring to scoot or my body. Enables winter riding in Ohio. Enlarge first pic above.... see them protruding from leather glove.
Cons: bulky battery pack on wrists...requires very large over-gloves since these are liners, not scoot powered heating gloves (which are pricey)
When I  am miles into the boonies on frigid winter days I  was leary of anything drawing its electricity  from my scooter...even though I've  installed larger YUASA's for the same reason of my wellbeing.
But once underway, I give no more thought to my hands on very cold rides. NO other glove combo worked to keep the pain away on long winter rides. Layers, chemical hand warmers, bar mitts, etc. Nothing worked like these battery heated glove liners, for me.

Thanks Tom for the details and recommendation on the heated liners. Went to Olympia's web site and couldn't find the "Wind Tex" model but found several gortex gauntlet style. Specifically which model do you have? This looks like the cats meow for our mixed climate of cold to mild weather during the winter.

Sorry Dan....black tag is no longer legible.
Has two soft panels on back....recall  that was to wipe your nose on (!)
My mustache catches all that .....waitresses enjoy the effects.
Seems as though they were around $80.
I bought at local dealer....to insure fit over the Gerbings.
