SNAP...Bleaaahhhh
« on: December 09, 2016, 05:38:07 AM »
I was riding merrily along and stopped at a stop light. Everything seemed fine.  As I took off, the scooter  (people s200) made a snap nose,  then the engine stopped,  but there was a strange noise,  kind of like a playing card in bicycle spokes, and I had to coast off of the road.  I tried to start it and it sounds like it would sound if you had the kill switch switched to off. Any clue what's happened?

At least the engine is turning, so it cant be that bad.
Your description of the initial symptom is going to be hard to decipher.
You are going to need diagnostic skills to work out what is causing this.
If no such skills, hopefully you have a friend who can assist.
Lastly, the local bike shop.
You see, it could be electrical (I am leaning in that direction),
Or fuel related.

First you will need a voltmeter, to test various electrical components.

Before anything else, first check the fuses....☺️

Yes, how did you resolve the issue you had in May?
Might help us sort out what your current problem is.
Please bear in mind that when you post with a problem...it is then very helpful to the rest of us that you post back and let us know how you repaired the problem.
We all then benefit from your repair.

Hello,  friends. Unfortunately,  I have not yet solved this problem. Things have been crazy busy here.  This is not the same scooter I had before,  but it is the same model and year. I guess I'm going to have to call the shop, as I have no idea what could be wrong.  It's just 60 miles away. Ugh.  I appreciate the replies,  thank you so much.

UPDATE!
So...it was ridiculously simple. The sparkplug came out. I bought this scooter from someone who kind had it mickymoused and I guess he didn't put the spark plug in tightly enough. Once I screwed it back in, everything was fine! :)

Yep, hard to start when plug has left the engine.
Amazing

Years ago I bought a Rabbit convertible on the cheap.
The guy had a list of everything he'd done, which was pretty extensive....After I blew the clutch and the head gasket (both of which he'd "fixed") even finding newish parts in the clutch I started going over the rest of his list as  a checklist of things I needed to do.

Be very careful with that spark plug. The previous owner may have stripped some of the threads and your plug could have blown out.

Oh! I didn't even think about that! THANK YOU!
