A big score - kappa screen
« on: September 21, 2016, 01:52:31 PM »
Hey, all

I just scored a kappa big screen d293st for my XC500EFI.
I was going to buy it, but the shop installer fastened the bolts too tight and cracked it bottom right.
The crack runs up alongside  the black piece that fits the screen, and is hardly noticing.
So, I got it for free instead.
God is good.

Amazing,  right?

Drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop this spreading.

Then try some SuperGlue to seep intothe crack.

Cider Boy.

It is only working for me because I have risers in the handle bars, in fact, two sets, one for up, and another for bringing bars closer to the seat, so there is some spare space, as the mirrors actually touch during hard turns, which only happens when parking.
Also, because it is so tall, it really intrudes into the driver space.
My helmet bumps into it if I lean forward to pull up the handbrake.

Looking through the screen while slipping between the cars is a bit difficult because there is some optical distortion.

Lastly, because I sit further back, there is actually a wind turbulence behind the screen.
I have tested by moving forward on the seat, and the turbulence is then not apparent.

But, after all is said and done, I still like it, and will keep it.

If the height becomes too much of an issue, you could trim it with a jigsaw and a fine-toothed metal cutting blade. Tape both sides of the shield, mark where you want to cut, and follow with the jigsaw.  Carefully finish the edge with fine sand paper.

But, after all is said and done, I still like it, and will keep it.

Update:
I have gotten more used to the distortion.
It is like getting new glasses...
With this big screen, at 160kmh(100mph) the scoot feels like it is battering its way through the wind resistance.

This is still test phase, knowing what the scoot can do/the limits.

Be very careful if you have to ride in the dark while looking through the windshield, or any time it rains. Looks like you got a fantastic deal.
