Hi Dr Karl

Thanks. Chill pills taken & I'm feeling much better now.

Right, I've had a look and I can see what you're saying. There's a single cable coming from the actuator attached to the ignition switch. The single cable goes into a plastic housing where 2 cables come out (presumably for each seat latch)

I've tried yanking as you say, but with no luck so far (well, it pops the closer of the 2 latches with no problem).

I also managed to get the under seat cable hatch cover off can actually get a hold of the 2 cables in there. Again, no success, but I'll keep trying.

My fear is that the cable has snapped.....then I really am stuffed.

Luckily, I have a spare lid & gloves so I can keep trying with no loss of scooter. It's just a pain carrying stuff around!

The steering head bearings need replacing as well, so if I'm taking the front and off any way....
last resort,  take front off and remove cable,( one nut,) off of ignition, and pull on the cable

So is that the end of your 2011 Downtown, de dee?  I hope not.

I JUST CANT AFFORD CANADIAN prices, from dealer for repairing scooter, they wanted $ 1200.00 for ECU and $ 960.00 for harness, + $ 1200.00 labor, for two pieces, way more than the scooter is worth,.  so I bought from powersportswarehouse.
ECU $ 248.76,    harness $ 225.46.    coil $ 36.54   and did the labor myself,  all done but still no spark ,  I am looking for a mech. that knows elec. on scooters who wont charge $ 110.00 a hour,.  going to look in Massena NY.

De dee! This cannot be happening! Your DT is the LEADER! What and when did this all start?

Maybe perhaps that's the lifespan for a DT300?

Managed to get the seat released, thanks to this thread here.

The only dodgy bit was taking the plastic centre panel off - other than that, it was pretty straightforward. It turn out it was a corroded and snapped 'long' latch cable, so no amount of yanking would have popped the seat open.

Right, I'm off to devise a very clever secret opening system.

Thanks all.

...no clever solution I'm afraid. I've disabled the L/H lock with a highly technical solution (i.e. a zip tie) and I'm down to just the R/H lock (viewed from the front of the bike) - which is fine I guess. After al, I couldn't prise it open when it was just the other lock holding it closed.

Replaced the rear brake switch with with a new piece sourced from eBay for USD10.

Easy peasy to replace.

Also I discovered my head stock had developed some play. It is just turning left right free play. It doesn't have the free play in other directions.  It is also not notched.

Would be just a loose head bearing or something is worn?

Talking to the dealer where I bought my downtown, and he said the only thing left to check is the stater- generator,.  so I ordered a new stater and gasket should be here by Tuesday or Wednesday,. the scooter is striped of all tupper ware, so it is easy to work on,
meanwhile I put 2300 Km.s on my new  2016 Piaggio BV 350 sport,.  I ordered a bigger wind-shield from Rev-zilla  a givi W S.  that is higher and wider should be here Monday or Tue.  (notice on wind-shield max speed 138 Kmh.)  will that be wind speed or ground speed??????  We get winds of 40 and 50 Kmh very often,  got to fix the downtown for windy days ,.

Since it is being diagnosed by the dealer, shouldn't you only pay for what would actually be the required replacement part rather than you playing for their trial and error?
