people 150 or movie 150??
« on: April 24, 2014, 12:55:11 PM »
hi,

I am about to purchase a kymco scooter from my local dealer and I need to make a decision between a 2010 people 150 and a 2013 movie 150. Both are new left over stock and both have a current cash back offer.  i'm looking at 2025 OTD on the people and 2500 OTD on the movie. i'm not sure which is the best option overall. they are both comfortable and $500 is a petty big price difference.  I will be using the bike as a daily commuter , 16 miles round trip. the speed limit for most of the ride is 50mph and its an urban roadway. any thoughts?

There's a couple ways to look at this but either way those seem like fantastic OTD prices to me. The movie MSRP for $3200 so you're getting tax and setup for 700 under that. If I could of found a deal like that on a movie, it would have been a no brainer. The movie attracts me cause of the price, storage and dual disc brakes. The people is a discontinued line but you can say that it has a few years to iron out any kinks in the production of it. The movie is new to 2013 but i would assume reliable as Kymco makes good products. Your rebate is probably the same on each so that's a non issue. I would tend to lean toward the movie because of new/improved technology. What was your budget before you started looking? Stick to that if you are completely unsure. You like the looks of both? They are definitely different styling wise. That would be an influence for me. Sorry to jump around so much but just throwing ideas out there. My money would go to the movie.

Another thing to consider is wheel size.  The People has 16" wheels and the Movie has 12" wheels.

Thanks!
I really prefer the look of the Movie, but I guess I'm just  not sure if its performance is $500 better. my budget was 2000, so the people is right on target, if I stretch my wallet I could get the Movie but is it going to be a better ride at 50mph or does it just come sown to style.  I do like the big wheels on the people and my low speed test ride was great, but i'm not really that into the European look.  In the end its primarily going to be transportation, fun transportation but I just want to know if you guys think its worth putting aside a little extra because the movie is that much better or if just comes down to looks.

thanks again!

I don't know that much about the movie, but I had a 2010 People 150 and loved it. I sold it and got a GTI300 because a new job entailed a interstate commute to work. The People 150 was a great scoot, but the top end was only about 58 and not quite fast enough for the commute. You should be able to cruise comfortably at 50 with either, but I think the 16" wheels would serve you better on the highway.

thanks for the info, I think I'm going to go for the people. the price is right and I don't have to hit any interstates so a top end of 58 should be more than enough.

The P150 is a great around-town scoot! ;)

Go for the Movie. The Movie has a much newer designed motor and is considered one of Kymco's sport scooters. It is the better choice in the long run. You will want that warrenty and you'll like knowing that you broke in the motor correctly.  The better motor will make the difference for you.

The people he's looking at is a new-old-stock bike, so he'll still get the full Kymco warranty and get to break in the motor himself.

That's what I get for skimming. Still the Movie has the better motor.  Read up on Motorscooterguide.net

It's still better. The Movie has a four valve head, and has 13 hp.  My Like 200i doesn't have that much power.  The power plant in this scooter is better.  The only reason I would consider the people would be if the way the People rides dramatically better. But I doubt it's dramatically better.

I would deffinately go with the People. If you are planning to commute on the bike the larger wheels will make a big difference in town and on the highway. I bought a Super 8 150 over the Agility for that very reason. I ride in town at speeds from 30 to 50 and could not imagine having a 10 or 12 wheel hit a pot hole at speed and have my wheel dissappear! It may be paranoia but peace of mind is priceless!

I had a People 150 and loved it, especially the 16" wheels. I do notice a difference in the ride and smoothness now that my present scoot has 12" tires. Although my present ride has a more modern engine and suspension, the larger tires do give you more stability on the bumpy roads. You won't be disappointed with the People!
