General Discussion / Re: nearest deer miss yet!
« on: March 22, 2024, 12:59:00 AM »
I've had some close calls and then there was the one that wasn't close.  I hit a deer going around 65.  I went down and tumbled and slid to a stop on the pavement from 65 to a stop.  I walked away with no major injuries.  I rode the bike around 100 miles to get home but it was pretty bent up.  That was around 15 years ago.  Since then I have come closer to hitting some large birds than I have deer.

Fantastic! Thought I’d lost all my Kymco pals 😢

Neil, some of us here know each other on other forums as well so if this one crashes we can still contact each other.  Several of us are on the Adventure Rider forum.  Crossbolt asked what happened to this forum there.  Several other people responded and one of them remembered that Stig was on the Modern Vespa Forum under a different name.  I joined that forum and contacted him to ask about this forum.

Just something to think about if this forum ever crashes again.  Those of us on ADV have the same user names there as on this forum.

50 is my go/no go temp for long rides.  I'll go for a short ride in the 30s or 40s but for a longer day ride I want the temperature to be above 50 for most of the ride.

Klav, sunny and 70 is perfect! I may have seen this before...but did we know you owned a Vespa? A Like or People 150I comes to mind...but not a Vespa

I just got the Vespa a couple of weeks ago and I sold my Majesty.  The Vespa can best be described as a Like 150i on streroids.

The Vespa is around 60 pounds heavier but it is also a bit faster.

Pictures are so much easier to post on the other forums I am on.  The software running this forum is really outdated.

70 degrees and sunny yesterday so of course I went riding and took some pics.  I researched downsizing my pics in Smugmug so they fit here better.

My Like 150i has around .3 Gal left when the low fuel warning comes on.  That should be good for at least 20 miles.  That is by far the least reserve of any bike I have owned.  My experience is that most bikes have at least 30 miles left after low fuel warning or having to turn the petcock to reserve on older bikes.  My KLR650 had something like 80-90 miles left on reserve!  My KLX 250 low fuel warning comes on after using 1.3 gallons and still has .7 Gal left.

While I do keep some gas in a can at home and often fill my bikes from it, I also use gas stations so I can calculate my gas mileage and also get an idea how much gas I have left when the low fuel warning comes on.

No simple way to reduce those smagmug pix, Klav?
On my monitor I'll miss a good part of your photo unless I mouse the bars to and fro and up & down.

Stig
I can easily make them a lot smaller.

I post my pics from SmugMug.  They come out slightly big (on this forum) but close enough.  SmugMug is not free but it's a good place to organize and store my pics.  I take thousands of pics every year so its worth it to me.  The other two forums I am active on allow for posting pics directly without use of a hosting site.  They both have much better software than this forum which is very basic

I refuse to watch the NFL so no super bowl for me.  I don't have any interest in the NBA, NHL or MLB either.

There should be a bag hook in front of the seat but it isn't very useful.  I keep a bungee net under the seat so I can strap things to the seat if needed.  You can add a tail box.  Givi makes a rack and a variety of boxes.  Mine is 39L and will easily hold a full face helmet with some room left over.

That little Honda Trail keep up with you guys?
Thanks for the photo Klav - pics always appreciated for those of us who can't read!

Stig

That guy on the trail 125 rode around 100 miles just to get to the start of the ride.  On these rides the fast guys ride up front, slower guys in the back and we regroup at turns.  We were all surprised at how well he did.  No he couldn't hang with the faster riders but he wasn't bringing up the rear either.
