Xciting 500 / Tom Moy, side car questions.
« on: October 27, 2023, 11:39:46 AM »
Hey Tom. I was thinking of getting a side car. How difficult was it to install? Any cutting of plastic? What was cost of install? What is make and model of your car? Can it be removed easy, or is it a real pain to un hook and re-attach it? Thanks.

Xciting 500 / 2016 Kymco xciting 500.
« on: September 17, 2023, 10:31:59 AM »
After riding my 2007 orange xciting 500 for about 80,000 miles. I sold it and bought a cherry 2005 BMW F650 CS. The slight bent over riding position killed me, so I sold it and last march/ April I bought a 2016 xciting 500 with only 2,600 miles on it. Really brand new. Really great bike. Looked at and sat on the AK550, but it was very tall, seat thin and as hard as a board, and the handle bars to low and short. I was very disappointed. Shame on kymco. I'm 5-9, so there is no way a woman could ride it with out difficulty that is. No way I could tour on it with it's riding position. Oh well, they lost a sale.

Does the rubber diaphragm have a tear in it? Diaphragm and slide are the same part.

Shad and Givi make racks and box's for your bike. Mounts behind passenger seat. Sizes up to around 50-55 liters. Shad is cheaper. Have seen pictures of side hard bags, small ones looking like Givi? But was a picture from someone in Germany if I remember right?

Welcome back old friend. Your rubber diaphragm located just under the carb top/cap has a pin hole (or worse) hole in it. Easy fix, can do it your self. The spring will pop out, don't lose it. Then run a few cans of carb cleaner through it. My 07 had set for about 2 years when I bought it. Started, but would not idle. Idle jet was clogged. After running it through a few tanks of gas with cleaners, it cleared right up. Good luck, and make sure you put spring and needle back in correctly. A slight smear of grease on outer edge of diaphragm will keep it in side recessed area of carb that the rubber lip go's down inside of top of carb. Do this so you can put cap back on without worrying about crimping the rubber if it pops out of carb top when putting cap back on.

Xciting 500 / Re: xciting 400i air filter

Is it over oiled? Or is it oiled at all. It's the same as a KNA filter. I ride a stock 400, and one with a melossi. I think stock was faster, and turned much less rpm's at freeway speeds. I would go back to stock.

You will spend $ for about 1/2 second faster 0-60 time. A waist of $. Your motor will spin faster RPM's, get worse MPG etc. If you use their belt it will plow up after about 1000 miles. It is shorter and narrower than stock Kymco belt. Stay stock, Don't make the mistake I and others have made.

What years are the bikes? If they are both single head light x250 & 500's, body panels should fit both?

Google (daylong cycle saddles). Not cheap but made to your specs. Have owned 3, never will use anything else.

Go to ebay, and type in xciting 500. Then check box (used parts), and then check box (world wide). I think you need a new cluster?

If you have a pin hole leak in the carb diaphragm, it will suck air and not go very fast. The bike is old, it has never been changed, take my word on this. Order a new one, pop off the carb top under plastic cap-under the seat. 3 screws or 4 (don't remember), and lid lifts off. Beware not to lose spring. Put needle jet and plastic piece back in, in correct order with spring in same position it was in when you took it apart. Really very easy to do. You may need to smear a little grease on the lip of the new diaphragm to make it stay down inside the recessed area before placing spring with top-cap back on, but once you push lip in groove of top of carb you will know if you need the grease or not. Also, adjust the valves. They tend to loosen up over time/miles. Loose valves = a slow bike that sucks gas. Good luck.

Xciting 500 / Re: Original belt and rollers
« on: April 27, 2019, 07:52:50 PM »
Thats a 10 year old belt. I would change belt and rollers, and then again every 20,000 miles or so to be safe. Stick with original parts ONLY. Learn from others who made mistakes using after market please. Yes to new coolant, new spark plug, and battery if you have not done so as of yet. Are tires cracked? Also so ethanol gas treatment would be a good bet also. :-*

« on: January 07, 2019, 03:19:21 PM »
I unplugged my under seat light after about the 3rd time my battery went dead. You can close seat, pull up on it to make sure it is all the way down and locked, and a latch can/will still let loose on one side, and the light will come on and kill the battery. Carry an LED flash light and unplug light. Not worth it. :-*

Probably the stator? But is your seat closed? If not, the light stays on and will kill the battery real quick.  :-*

Look for a diaphragm (rubber that is) in the fuel injection system. If there is one then that is the issue probably. New gases destroy them. A pin hole leak will suck to much air and make the bike run very lean. :-*
