Side By Side / Re: UXV 450i will not start
« on: November 22, 2023, 06:10:02 PM »
Thanks for letting us know your findings, sorry to hear about your issues, hoping your issues were a rare problem as many of us on this forum have older models, mine is a 2015 model.  So far not a single issue....probably should not have said that !!

MXU / Re: Thinking about buying a used '15 450i with issue, bad idea?

They are good machines and fairly fast.  The engine is bullet proof with proper care.  The problem is getting parts...they need to come from Tiwan so with the political issues going on, certain parts are very scarce !!  I have the side by side 450i and it has been flawless since Jan 2016..  I do take excellent care of my stuff though.

With the gear ratio being fixed, I wouldn't tax/ bog the engine down with bigger tires.  I bought the SUNF AO33 tires thru walmart and they have been excellent.. They are an actual 25" tire, unlike the 24 plus size that came on the machine.  The tread is more pavement friendly, quiet, good mud traction, good snow traction, stiff sidewalls...can be run flat at slow speeds !  ( wont get stranded)
Price was good, very highly rated from others that have owned them.

Make sure battery reads 12.6 volts or higher !!  Get a new plug!  Check compression to be sure engine is healthy..if compression is good, spark is good and fuel is good, it will run!  Check to be sure spark is blue (hot)  if yellow then spark is weak.  Plug wire should jump a 3/16" gap with ease..

Side By Side / Re: Belt Wear

Actually, the belt replacement itself it quite easy, but...on that 450i, there is so much stuff to remove to get it out of the way!!!  Mabey they created very good wearing belts due to the difficulty of getting them.  Guess we should be glad because my neighbors have Polaris machines and go thru one or two belts each season and there quads dont get that much use, there Generals do and another has a Polaris side x side and is on his third belt in three years !!  The Polaris belts are easy to change, guess we know why...

Havent had to replace mine yet either....my wife has health issues so I cant get away for any length of time on long rides. Used to go up into Mich and the UP on 3-4 day rides.  When I had my atv's I would repkace them at 2k miles and if the ild belt was still good, keep it for a spare.  Mine shows no sign of giving up as of yet and no plans for any long trips so not gonna worry about it.  Now...if I had a couple long trips planned for this summer, I woukd be tempted to open it up and check things out as I keep a spare belt handy.  Looks like a belt swap might be quite a job on these 450i machines !!

The "Tracker" brand from Bass Pro uses a 450i model for one if there machines, with cosmetic changes, not sure about the other models.

Find out why he doesn't want to rebuild it??  How bad is it...that is the key question??  I would shop around and try to find an engine...not gonna be easy to find!!

General Discussion / Re: Time for new tires?
« on: April 30, 2023, 01:39:32 AM »
I also believe the mfgrs have set a max of 7 years of time before the tire is considered wornout.  Most tire shops wont touch a tire at 7 years in age other than to replace it!  Tread depth, cracking of carcass, birthdate are the 3 things that determine when a tire needs replaced !!   When you buy new tires, get a date code when they were mfgr.  Sometimes tires are sold that have set for a year or two in storage, you dont want them !!

"Parts from Taiwan ".....??
In the USA we look to get parts from KYMCOUSA. They are our middle man for Taiwan.
I'll talk to my Kymco dealer here in Ohio and ask if he's having troubles with parts from KYMCOUSA.
Stig

Ultimetaly they come from Tiawan, Kymcousa is just a middleman. I have had better luck getting stuff from cross country dealers than my local Ohio dealer

You might try Walmart auto center if you have one.  The one in my area will mount most anything 10-15 bucks each. They have done my boat trailer tires, atv tires, anything I can carry in. I do always watch from a viewing area as there have been a couple they tried to mount backwards.....

Unfortunately folks, I have talked to some other Kymco owners and we might be kina screwed here.  It seems none of the dealers can or are getting any parts out of Taiwan.  Many have been told to scrounge up what they can find as nothing new, as far as parts are comming over.  This really $ucks, and what ever parts people have are gonna go sky high in price.  Keep your fingers crossed !!!!

Yes, starter motors for our toys are very expensive, what make and model machine are you seeking a manual for? Not sure a manual will give you anything but a part number and a picture..

Side By Side / Re: broke again
« on: March 19, 2023, 08:06:01 PM »
Well that really sucks !!!  If you have it welded again, make sure they enhance the welded area with gussets or a number of other methods that can actually make the joint stronger than the original.
From your stories, I know you have gotten every ounce of strength out of it !!  Good luck...wrong time of year for a break down...
