I started having problems from a dead stop where the bike would feel like it was dragging and no pick up. I originally thought it might be the electrical gremlins returning. I realized it was the clutch hanging up.
I replaced the original clutch as a test with an aftermarket gy6 Ebay clutch on a recommendation by an inmate here a few years ago. It seemed like it had a heavier spring and definitely larger pads. Although, I had to scuff them up more frequently than the original, the clutch worked well.
Well now Its acting up. I removed it and inspected it. Springs are good, surface could use a cleaning but otherwise seemed ok. It seemed to be hanging up on the pivot points of the pads. ( I don't know the correct term).
Anyway, I had bought an OEM replacement at the same time I bought the Ebay clutch. Replaced clutch and no more problems.
The $35.00 clutch lasted for 5k miles. Not too good, but the OEM was $95.00. We will see. The LX has 15k miles at this time. Still cruising.

Technical | How To / Intermitten Like problem
« on: June 07, 2020, 01:17:04 AM »
2013 Like 200 LX. Long story.  14k miles.
Original symptoms: After a nice run, i was stopped at a light, the idle dropped and stumbled. When the light changed, i gunned it and the bike died. Started and it did the same. After blipping the throttle several times to take off, it all went back to normal. This happened several times that day, and still happens.
I started getting a CELP code of 6, which is a battery or charging system problem. I installed a new Yuasa battery, as it had the original tired battery. Problem persisted. I have gotten to the point of being able to  create the problem on the road but not at home.
It happens usually after a high speed run. (Over 45 mph).
NOW: I get a CELP code of 11, which according to the Cyclepedia manual, is a bad ignition coil.  The problem will occur even when there are no CELP codes. I followed the troubleshooting instructions for checking the primary of the coil. The manual states it should be .65 - .675 ohms. My meters only read to tenths, it reads .7 ohms. (Digital meter, I dropped the Simpson from a ladder years ago)  I do not understand the instructions for checking the coil secondary. It is sealed with the exception of the spark plug wire.
I have removed most of the plastics to check every connection i see. Maybe it is the coil, but i hate being a parts changer. Any help on the coil troubleshooting would be helpful.

The swerve n curve rally is coming up at the end of the month.
I can't make it, due to work. The rally actually can be crazy, but the meet up before and after is pretty cool.

General Discussion / Came off my SMAX last Sunday
« on: November 02, 2017, 05:23:02 PM »
Riding around on a Sunday afternoon. I turned into a parking lot driveway. A combination of taking the turn too wide, a wet driveway, and a panic jackknife when I saw a car approach, caused me to dump the bike. 5 mph turn. I went over and bike slid out. It was a Nothing accident. Except for the fact the the bike caught my foot and turned it while going over it. Both bones in my lower leg shattered when my foot turned over. The bike landed on my leg. Thankfully, the driver of the nearest car in the parking lot pulled it off.
Its so amazing that the nothing slide caused so much damage. I knew immediately, that my leg was broken. (My foot turned the wrong direction was a clue). The bone did not break the skin. The doctors repaired the smaller bone with pins and rods. I am waiting for the swelling to go down in the next week or two, so they can repair the larger bone. It's amazing that they can drill rods into your bones and run another through your foot as a holding place for the bones. Currently, I look like they are building a high rise on my leg.
While I was waiting that day for the panic to recede. I couldn't help thinking about what Mr. Forbes went through. Your attitude and faith over your circumstances helped out a lot. I am truly thankful for your inspiration.
I have gone over the cause of the crash in my head. I am not sure about the details, as it happened so quick. Bare minimum, I let my guard down.  Stay safe brothers and sisters.

The 18th annual scooter meet is this weekend for all you So Cal scooter people. I didn't realize that it was this weekend or I would have switched my work on call with someone to make it.

I still have not heard anything about a U.S. release for these two scooters. All of the motorcycle mags/websites did a report on them, but still no news. The Spade and Like 150 are out. I wonder if they will wait until next year.

Roadcraft / So..that's what a flat tire feels like on a scooter.
« on: November 01, 2016, 06:06:39 PM »
On Saturday, I rode to the motorcycle shop to look at a new jacket. I rode the main road at the 50 mph speed limit. On the way home, I stopped for gas. The performance seemed to be strained. When I turned from the main street into my neighborhood, it felt like the rear end was on a swivel. I drove to the stop sign, then turned. From a dead stop I turned right, the scooter decided to fish tail and swerve. I stopped immediately at that time. I put the bike on the center stand and shook everything. OK? I guess.
It wasn't until I brought it down and checked it on the side stand that I realized that the back tire was completely flat.  I ran over a large  construction staple, a two pronged nail. I consider myself lucky that the tire survived until I was close to home, and riding at very slow speeds. I was around the corner from home and was able to push the bike home.
I had previously never experienced a flat on a motor bike. It was definitely a "what the heck was That? " feeling, followed by a sigh and a Thank you.
I ordered another tire. It should be here soon.

I ordered new Michelin City Grips from Amazon yesterday. The rear tire on my Like has reached its limit. At 8700 miles it is passed the wear marks. Originally,  I was going to just buy the tires from  the dealer and have them install them. Unfortunately, they don't stock them. I will have them install them for me.
