Roadcraft / xciting 500 vs tmax xp500
« on: September 05, 2019, 03:35:33 PM »
Hi Good Peoples.

I thought I would drop by and leave a note on my reflections of the tmax I had to get after the xciting 500 fiasco.

HEADLINE:
I still prefer the xciting 500.

Here is why:
+It stays on it's line, cross winds have no effect(or minimal).
+The throttle is not as sensitive.
+It was more economical.  20km/l vs 17km/l
+It was more predictable with braking hard.
+better weather protection as it is wider.

The tmax:
+Goes like the clappers.
+Acceleration is phenominal.
-I cant get a nice comfortable seating position.
( I raised the bars 20mm-cant go higher because of the design)
-Braking hard is scary, it sort of floats in the rear.(this could mean I must learn a new method of hard braking).
-Throttle is very sensitive, and with fidgeting to find a good seating position, and also a bit on tiptoe at standstill, I have
now on a few occassions spurted the throttle, so I must watch that right hand.
-at higher speeds, read above 140kmh, it has a floating feeling, and feels a bit unstable.(could be because of the touring screen),
so, for now, 140 is my top speed, but only for overtaking purposes.
-weird lighting system.Dual lights. On mine, perhaps even more weird. I dont have another to compare it to. Normal lights, the brights
   are on.
Brights add the dim. Perhaps wrong headlamp installed after an accident(some evidence of that). Anyways, that was so stupid, I
extended the cables so the plugs would go to the opposite bulb, and now things are correct in the lighting dept.

My conclusion for the xciting 500 win is: I must be getting old, lol.

Technical | How To / Oil in water xciting 500
« on: August 07, 2018, 09:38:26 AM »
I have found oil in the water in the filler pipe.
Very thick.
About 3cm length filled with oil.

Over a two week period this build up.
A week later I checked again.
2cm length of oil in that pipe.
Oil rises, so that is why it is at the top.

Only two places that I know where it can come from.
Mechanical seal, but I see no leaks on the outside.
So that probably means it is ok.
You have any other views on this position.?

The most likely is the head gasket or a cracked head.

The gasket has been changed a few times (while replacing exhaust cam)

The head had been skimmed once.

What are the chances of it just being the gasket.?
And not worse.

Xciting 500 / Xc500 engine error p0135
« on: June 20, 2018, 04:39:02 PM »
Hi all.

I finally got my scanner tool working, as it had an engine error on since I got it back from the workshop(the worse one - the agents ) the previous time.

I did not think much about the error as it happened  before and using the original kymco tool, it was easily removed.
So I assumed, same issue, but as it turns out, i was wrong.

My chinese scanner running through virtual xp shows "p0135 : 02 sensor heater circuit malfunction" .

Q1) Where do i find this part, and what could I do to fix it, a plug is out maybe?

Q2) Coukd this possibly explain why my scoot seems to take forever to get to operating temp?

Temp Guage stays at zero, until i turn off ignition, and immediately turn it back on.
Then it goes to the middle.

Anyways, Q2 is not a priority, so don't break your brain over it,

Q1 is my main point.

I await your wisdom, and Google skills. Lol.

Xciting 500 / Soggy rear brake after caliper replacement
« on: June 16, 2018, 08:49:20 PM »
I imported a used rear caliper from ebay, since it was R3000 cheaper than a new original.
I took the scoot into to a local bike  workshop to have it fitted since I did not want the hassle of bleeding and cleaning up brake fluid.
However, the scoot came back with a soggy brake. Rear.
The job did sort out the major chatter that was happening before as the old caliper was badly worn.
I decided to bleed myself, and used a syringe to push the fluid up onto the reservoir. 400ml later and hardly any better.
Since the caliper is the only different thing, must I assume that this used caliper has bad seals or something, although there is no evidence of fluid in the caliper escaping.?
The brakes were sharp before the caliper change.
I am one man alone, so bleeding the rear brakes is difficult as I can't pump and release the nipple (I can't stretch that far), which is why I used the reverse syringe idea.
Any suggestions?

Xciting 500 / Efi cutting out at stop street
« on: March 16, 2018, 06:30:45 AM »
My xc500 has been fixed regarding the gearbix oil leak, no major damage thank god.
But....
there is this persistent cutting out when showing down to turn a corner or when stopping at the robot.
The mechanic has run out of ideas.
So I am hoping your combined brain power will come to a viable solution.
Begin......😀

Xciting 500 / Gearbox seal gave in- total loss of oil
« on: February 15, 2018, 03:11:25 PM »
Yesturday, at a customer I saw the rear rim was wet, and smelled like gear oil.
I checked the outlet plug, tight.
There was old oil buildup on the underside, which I did not notice until now.

What kind of damage can i expect from this mishap?

Keep in mind I have a suspicion it has been low for some time, as I often heard a mysterious rattle at the back at idle. But when i held the rear brakes slightly it was silent, so i thought the pads were rattling, and I ignored it.

Xciting 500 / Efi 500 stalling at idle
« on: December 22, 2017, 04:11:44 PM »
Since I got the scoot back from the workshop after the engine rebuild, it cuts out at idle.
It especially does it more when cold, and when coasting to a stop when cold.
At normal temp it is still there, but not so bad.
Plus most if the time  there is a little hesitation when accelerating from low revs.
So, now i have to keep the revs up at the robots /stop streets, as it should be 1200 but takes to 800 and cuts out.
If i rev a bit it sometimes sits at 1000-1200,then it won't cut out.

I am thinking extra air air in the system.

Xciting 500 / Correct scooter running-in procedure
« on: December 20, 2017, 03:40:56 PM »
I just  got my scoot back with new barrel, piston, rings , exhaust cam bracket(it lies on the cam-I don't know the proper name ).EDIT:rocker arm
Plus used head, as the old head, the mackie showed me serious cam bearing housing wear on the exhaust cam side.
He showed me that oil does not get there in sufficient quantities, a design flaw for this model.

Anyways, my main question is :what is the correct running - in procedure for this engine 2010 efi xciting 500ri.?

Xciting 500 / Oil still vanishing after rings and valve stem seals job
« on: November 08, 2017, 09:12:41 PM »
Xciting 500

I have ridden  1000 km since the engine job was done.
In that time i have had to topup with  750 ml oil, which is excessive.

The tail pipe is dry, but sootie.
The expansion tank water is green.
I don't see smoke in the mirror while driving.
I don't see smoke when i start it in the morning.
There is no pool of oil under the scooter where I park overnight or anywhere else i park.
The usual suspect of the grommet where the alternator wires exit the engine is wet with oil.
But Not dripping.
This is the only evidence of oil outside the engine.
Should I assume that this is where the missing oil is going?
Exiting the engine via the grommet.
What recommendations do you have?
I can say that  silicone did not help last time i tried to fix it. I applied it on the outside, and it seems there is a pressure, pushing the oil out, because the grommet is on top of the engine

Xciting 500 / Rear caliper movement
« on: October 14, 2017, 09:01:10 AM »
For some time now, a few months, a loud rattling noise is heard at the rear of the scoot, when at just above idle, and scoot is moving.
As soon as I touch the rear brakes it is gone, but it comes right back.
Sometimes I can feel a binding in the brake feedback.
The mechanic said he heard it and greased up the moving parts in the clutch.
But the noise remained after his remedy.

Yesturday, I finally managed to replicate it with the scoot on its centre stand.
Definately rear caliper.
I can take hold of the outermost part, and visibly move it up and down.
I think this indicates the pins are worn, or some type of rubber support(think floating) is perished or missing.

I know the brakes won't fail, and I could carry on like this, but is there any way to limit damage if there is, or replace a part or two.?
The spring is in place.

What say you?

Xciting 500 / Clutch nut spinning won't come off.
« on: August 31, 2017, 06:20:30 AM »
My xciting 500 RI is in the shop for a head gasket.
But the lady who answered the phone there when I called to check on progress said the mechanic said the clutch nut is spinning and won't come off.
I have the assembly and disassembly totally sorted  and can do it in 10 min or less now, and I recently looked in the cvt and all was good.
One thing I can mention  is that there has been this loud chatter/rattle at very low speeds just above idle (when the engine is not too loud.) coming from the rear
I thought it was the springs on the  brakes, that hold the pads in place, as I changed the pads.

Since the mechanic is indicating an issue in cvt, here is a possibility.
About a year ago i went to an engineering company to help me change out the clutch spring, there is a very very big nut holding the whole assembly together. If that came loose a bit, would the clutch still work, but the outer nut would spin(maybe the whole shaft is moving with the tight nut.)

What are your thoughts on this strange situation?

Xciting 500 / Sticky milky mess found under parked scoot
« on: August 24, 2017, 06:09:01 AM »
Hi all.

Things have been going well for almost a year, since an exhaust cam job.

But....

Yesturday I found a tan coloured milky sticky mess, with green drops in it(the colour of my coolant).
This was found  under the left front part of the engine while parked on the side stand.

I had noted that the scoot was idling a bit rougher than before for a few days, and starting required a few turns of the key.
THE MAIN QUESTION : So, what do you think is the damage?

Since it does look like I will need some mechanical work, I will also get a high oil consumption problem sorted at the same time. I change my oil and filter every 3000km,and need an extra 1L for topups between changes.

General Discussion / Tapatalk getting to intrusive with ads
« on: December 21, 2016, 07:35:28 PM »
Android phone:

I have noticed that Tapatalk is getting far too intrusive with their ads.

I was getting fed up and decided to move to another app, but there is nothing else that works as well.

I then found this work around.:

Uninstall the latest ad-invested version.
Go to oldversion.com and download the 5.5.... version.
Install it and in the play store, disable automatic updates.

NO ads! I 👏
