General Discussion / 2024 Beat the Heat Scooter rally
« on: January 20, 2024, 04:21:00 PM »
This will be the 6th annual Maggie Valley Beat the Heat Scooter rally

The official dates for this years event are July 14-19. For those who prefer the weekend or want a longer time to ride the area the event unofficially starts Saturday the 13th. I plan on getting there on the 13th. If you plan on getting there early you might want to make reservations ASAP as rooms fill up fast on weekends.

The motel will be the same as the last two years:

AHoliday Motel, Phone: 1-828-926-1186

If (when) the Aholiday fills up there is a Comfort Inn across the street which several people used last year.

For those of you who haven't who haven't been this is a very loosely organized event. No T shirts, stickers, parades or rules. There is no fee or registration but I recommend you post that you are coming in this thread.

Any type of bike is welcome but at least 125cc is recommended.

This area offers some of the best riding in the country with super twisty roads and great scenery.

While the rest of the country is typically sweltering in heat this time of year the Maggie Valley area is normally 10-15 degrees cooler. A lot of riders who wear mesh riding gear end up being cold.

This rally is being organized on the Adventure rider forum:  https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/2024-beat-the-heat-scooter-rally.1696153/

You can see what this event is about through my ride reports for past events.

General Discussion / How many miles did you ride in 2023?
« on: January 01, 2024, 01:37:53 PM »
I added up my mileage for 2023.

Like150i - 4195
KLX250 - 3536
ADV150 - 3169
Majesty - 2757
Versys - 2743

Total - 16,400

I also did a bunch of demo rides last year. I'm guessing another 100 miles from those rides so 16,500 miles total. That's a pretty good year for me but I am hoping to do better this year.

As I expected I rode my scooters a lot more than my motorcycles, 10,121 miles vs 6,279.

Also interesting is that my three smallest bikes are at the top of my mileage list.

Anyone else keep track of their mileage?  If so, how many miles did you ride in 2023?

General Discussion / 22K valve adjustment on my Like 150i
« on: November 15, 2023, 02:29:32 AM »
I last adjusted the valves on my like at 11,500 miles.  The recommended interval is every 5K miles but I didn't check them again until today at 22,000 miles.  I could have waited another 5 or 10K as they barely needed adjustment.  The Intakes had loosened to .005 Inches from .004 so I adjusted them.  The exhausts had not moved so I left them alone.

As with many modern scooters removing and replacing the plastics is a PITA while the actual mechanical work is pretty simple.

General Discussion / NSR. Riding some ginormous beasts.
« on: November 12, 2023, 07:03:51 PM »
The India Demo truck came to town so I went and rode some.

This thing was FAAAAAST!

Most of the other bikes I rode were Huuuge and had a price tag to match.

General Discussion / NSR, visiting the site of a big government coverup.
« on: October 23, 2023, 09:11:52 PM »
A few days a go I had the chance to ride to the site of a big government coverup.  I was on my motorcycle, not one of my scooters but I thought some of you might be interested.

.

What is it?  It's a landing pad built by aliens to land their UFO's.  they built it in the middle of the forest so no one would see them.  the government made up a story about it being a cement plant and even photoshopped some pictures.  Really???  It's in the middle of nowhere in some rugged mountains.

There are even some residual gravity distortions left over from the UFOs.  Here a bike falls most of the way over but doesn't fall all the way.

General Discussion / Obnoxious Ads
« on: July 19, 2023, 10:38:58 PM »
Anyone else who thinks the Ads on this forum are really obnoxious?  I'm on 3 other forums and Facebook but none have Ads nearly as obnoxious and intrusive as the ones on this forum.

General Discussion / 2023 scooter cannonball
« on: June 18, 2023, 01:51:04 PM »
The scooter cannonball kicked off this morning and they are on they're way from San Clemente to the east coast.  I know a number of the competitors so I'll be following along closely.  I will head out next Saturday and see them come by in person as the route passes just a little North of my house.  The cannonball site is here:  https://scootercannonball.com/

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / Ride to local bike night.
« on: May 10, 2023, 11:32:51 AM »
The local Cycle Gear had a bike night so I decided to ride there.  As expected I had the only scooter there.

There was nothing all that exciting there.  Much more interesting for me were the views I got on the ride home.
