General Discussion / AK550 Rear Performance Brake Pads?
« on: June 04, 2022, 11:22:18 PM »
Hello.
I've ordered EBC Double H pads for the front but am unable to find EBC PN SFA719HH for the rear. Looking at Galfer and SBS, I've also found no high performance pads.
Has anyone found performance pads for the rear of their AK550?
Thanks!

Kymco News / Hey Kymco, Bring the 550!
« on: July 31, 2018, 04:55:00 PM »
I saw the above scoot' in Taiwan at a dealer. Looks great.
With no TMAX 530's with ABS available in the USA, Kymco would have this displacement/option market to itself. I want a maxi scoot' with good power, reasonable weight, good handling and ABS and nothing meets the spec's except the TMAX and Kymco 550.

LIKE 200i / Fork rough response
« on: July 11, 2016, 10:57:52 PM »
Hello,
I'm a new owner, having picked up a 2014 yesterday in bright red. It has 303 miles and is in very good shape.
Owning a few scoot's, I'm accustomed to small wheels and their somewhat rough ride. However, this bike hurts my hands and wrists when riding over somewhat rough roads. I'll use a scale of 1-10 where 1 is new asphalt and 10 is a dirt road. I'm riding on "5" roads with bumps up to 1/2" (~13mm) in height and quite frequent.
The 'bars move in a "violent" but low amplitude motion that vibrates my hands enough to create a weak grip of the handles.
I've checked the steering bearings and they are not loose.
The front tire is inflated to 25 PSI, as specified.
Does anyone else notice this problem? ???
Thanks!

People s200 / Rode People 200 on Friday...
« on: August 26, 2012, 04:35:42 PM »
What a nice scoot'!  The owner offered for me to ride the scoot' because he sensed headshake and strange drive line noises.  I rode it for a couple of miles, reaching about 90 KPH (~45 MPH) and didn't experience anything untoward.
The scoot' had 4,400 miles on the clock and a newish set of Pirelli Diablo tires.  He purchased and has it worked on by Davis (CA) Motorsport where I have my scoots working on.  "Jeff" is a good mechanic and very helpful with troubleshooting issues.
What I did notice was a smooth/taught ride and good power, as compared with my People 250.  My scoot' has much more engine noise and a softer/higher seat and is more stable over bumps.  Being a scoot' lover and Kymco fan and suffering from the more-scooters-the-better disease, I'm impressed and would suggest this scoot' to anyone who would listen.]
Full disclosure:  I own and ride a Honda Elite 80 and a Honda Silverwing as well.  The People 250 resides the middle to fill the riding radius gap between the other scoots.

People 250 / Selling 2006 People 250 in SF Bay Area
« on: July 02, 2012, 12:01:02 AM »
I'm selling my red scoot' in Craigslist this weekend.
Hope to get ~$2,000.00.
Basics:
Looks and runs very well.  No issues.
Stock in every way including tail box.
18,000 Km
New Battery.
Recently replaced and work completed:
Belt, fuel filter, air filter, brake fluid, coolant.
Valves adjusted.
Kenda tires have ~3Km remaining.
Installed a Vapor aftermarket dashboard for additional information on engine and ambient temperature.
The bad:
Fell off sidestand with regular body damage.  Nothing broken.  Nothing offensive.
The dash clock doesn't work.
I love this scoot' and am waiting for the new 700 in September.

People 250 / Extended non-oil-change maintenance intervals?
« on: May 20, 2012, 08:06:08 PM »
All,
First, I change oil at regular intervals and use synthetic which is supposed to extend intervals due to the extra-cost additive package in them.
My 2006 People 250 was purchased at ~13KM.  At that time I replaced oil, air filter, fuel filter, drive belt and rollers, coolant, installed Iridium NGK 'plug, and cleaned the oil screen and adjusted the valves.  I ride a combination of suburban streets and highways and the bike NEVER gets wet or runs in cold or hot ambient temperatures (I live in heaven... Northeast SF Bay Area).  The scoot' runs beautifully and is ridden all year long at the rate of about 4.5 KM/yr.
The Kymco service manual states that I should be adjusting valve and cleaning the oil screen, replacing the 'plug, air filter and fuel filter now, ~4KM after my last/first maintenance.  With the Iridium plug and scoot' well beyond break-in and air  and fuel filter elements lasting at least 15KM on every other vehicle I own, I think I can go to 19KM for the maintenance items called out in the service manual now (oil is fresh now).  Owning several motorbikes, I fully understand the need for more maintenance than automobiles, but the Kymco service manual seems too conservative under the conditions of use and quality of products being used.
What do you think?

People 250 / Aftermarket 2006 People 250 windshield?
« on: November 15, 2011, 07:37:12 PM »
I've found the stock screen to not provide enough wind protection at the top.  It's very noisy inside my helmet and I can make it quiet by simply lowering my head.  I've installed an extension on the windshield but it's not easy to see through and still not quite high enough.
Has anyone found a nice aftermarket windshield for their People 250?

People 250 / Speedo error
« on: October 28, 2010, 02:21:21 AM »
Man, the speedo's on scoot's are well and truly optimistic.  I decided that I'd kill two birds with one stone and mount a digital speedo on my scoot'.  It's much easier to read than the stock one and is much more accurate.  The stock speedo is ~10% optimistic at any speed.  Now it all makes sense, a 250cc scooter's top speed is quite a bit slower than indicated.  The mileage is also off by ~10%.  Still great performance and I love the scoot'.  Now, about the brakes and soft suspension...

People 250 / Kenda tires good and what's the best tire?
« on: October 21, 2010, 06:04:26 PM »
My used '06 People 250 came with Kendas on it.  They have plenty of rubber and seem okay for the conservative way that I ride.  However, when they are worn out or if the general consensus is that Kendas are not very good, I plan to replace them with the best tires I can find.
Are Kendas good?
What's the best tire for dry traction that's available in the right size for this scoot'?

People 250 / Loose spline on immovable variator.
« on: October 18, 2010, 06:30:50 PM »
New guy here.  I've just completed the following service on my '06 People 250 with 13k Km's (I love this scoot'!).
Replaced engine and gearbox oil, valve adjustment (intake loose, exhaust tight), replaced drive belt & rollers, fuel and air filters, Iridium spark plug and brake fluid.
I noticed the spline on the immovable side of the variator was quite loose.  Is this normal?  Maybe this is one of the vibrations I feel at certain RPM's?  Is this a 'consumable' item that should be replaced at regular intervals?
While the scoot' was apart I installed a Trailtech Vapor gauge so I can more accurately read the temperature and speed and ended up with a tachometer and ambient temperature read out as well.  Really nice and easy to read.
Thanks!
